Funny thing, but only now i have realized that the site is practically empty.

we can definitely forget about MU and FileServe; FileSonic might come back in a few days, but still most of the posts and mirrors are dead.

this leads to a good question: wtf do we do now? :o))

i don't want to make a mess with mirrors and other stuff... after all about 20% of posts was dead anyway.

so it seems to me that the best thing to do is to start with a clean sheet.
some stuff will be lost forever, but most of it, i am sure, will be reuploaded in a month or so.

please vote in the poll.
i especially want to read our contributor's opinion.

UPD: unfortunately, i still do not have complete solution to this problem... neither my acquaintance who run much bigger web-sites.
although i can share some news with you:
1. lots of changes are coming; AudioZ will become much more secure, rules for uploaders will be very strict.
2. i'm working hard to make our small community better; my programmers almost finished service which will help us to keep posts alive longer and cause less problems to the site.
3. soon we'll have our own server for images, therefore uploaders won't have to use unstable Picture Hosters to share screenshots.
4. soon AudioZ will be moved to a new VDServer, which will grant you faster and more stable access.
5. old posts will not be removed, but i'll make it the way they won't bother you

Find a place to put the files that is not also a haven for
the movie pirating. (Is there such a place?)
Hide the links if not logged in. Allow Google to draw in new community members to AudioZ.
*Maybe* a registration fee (argcompo dotcom does that, why not? but it won't prevent spies).
Please don't prevent leechers from participating. This is my preferred site,
I love it and I have great respect for you all, but if I have to upload something to see the links, then forget it, I can't do that. If you make it ultra-private, it defeats the purpose. I am not a music professional and I don't have money to buy
all this stuff and then share it.

Finally and most important... thank you for everything so far and cheers to the future!

About RapidShare:

For its part, Rapidshare, the largest competitor of Megaupload, decided to assume its contents. In an interview with our colleagues at ZDNet, the site told this: "Our service is as legal as those from YouTube and Dropbox. Therefore, we will not limit our service (...) RapidShare employs a team antifraud is responsible for collecting information on illegal files to the beneficiaries, to conduct independent research, to remove any files that infringes the rights copyright and, if necessary, block the user accounts. RapidShare also introduced a registration process that clients must meet the anonymous uploads are not allowed. "

NOTE: This is unfortunate for AudioZ. But I'm happy for these assholes to VC yes

Before there was the web there was usenet ("newsgroups") It is possible to post anonymously to (for example) Giganews using unintelligible file names and passwords - and this is the main point - keeping Audioz where it belongs as the outstanding site for all things music. The strength of this is that newsgroups automatically replicate amongst themselves - short of shutting down the internet you cant stop them. Some offer user to newsgroup encryption, and PPTP networking which means that even your ISP cannot tell what you are up to. Just a thought.

PS Giganews retains everything for (currently) 1268 days

Using torrent is not an option?

Sharing with user name and password is not work overall. From now on, being back to P2P will be the only exit for AudioZ then. For torrent sharing, it will become the game of time... damn

Guys, keep your eyes updated... wow

Autobanda
Use Mediafire! Why? Because:
- very fast download
- no waiting time
- unlimited parallel download
- supports download accelerator
- resumable download
- no verification code
- no limits per day
- it's friggin' FREE!

Those factors are only valuable in theory, if you share quite small files which are downloaded few times.

The important question is how the provider reacts if thousands of people try to download for example 10 gigabytes of data, like a new multi disk release or an Xbox-Iso.

Of course there are hundreds of OCH around, but which one can handle the server load a page like Audioz generates? Only a few.

The only remaining provider who can handle this for sure is Rapidshare.

i'd say definitely don't start from scratch, a lot of links are still good, just not filesonic and fileserve.

Definitely leave it as it is now! Many links still work and plus it's a reference/agenda of what's been posted in the last few years

I'm a frequent visiter of the site. I do think keeping the history of things that have been released would be helpful, because at some point I might think about buying a sample pack, for instance, and this is usually the first place I search for things, so even if the links are dead, I know which companies produce the things I'm interested in. One of the main things I'm worried about is how "private" the site will become. I can't say I contribute anything, but I still have a great appreciation for this place. I just registered here though (I registered on audiosexpro a while ago for some reason). I don't really want to see it go underground without me...nor do many other people who probably make up a large portion of the hits you get?

Well, I think we all people should start using maximum two servers to download stuff. Not the popular ones as Megaupload and Filesonic were. There are plenty of servers to use them. Some days ago I was downloading Protools form filesonic and I missed just 2 f*cking files to complete the full download. Today I spent almost all the day searching for the remaining files and found the download at crocko.com .. I was quite impressed with its speed.

So my idea is to start uploading stuff at new sites that arent found so easy by google. And of course, please dont be so obvious, dont label the file with the name of what you are downloading.

perhaps torrents should make a comeback - that is until someone is finally able to shutdown TPB

I just came to know about this GEM place and awesome community here, i agree with others by starting from scratch.

some humble suggestions
- password the uploads.
-encrypt file name
- use none US sharing hosts.

all the best and my total respect for you and your help to us :)

Best thing i believe is to start all over again.
Also, as some of you said, it'll be good to hide links, or encrypt the file names, that always help to avoid spreading the links to unsafe places.
Just a thought.

I agree with mcclaine concerning the file encryption.
If i'll share stuff again i'll use an encryption plus masking the name.
Looking now back, i think many people acted hype-exaggerated; and all just because a bunch of American & European capitalists have gone totally nuts!!!

I agree with anything that doesn't allow or require anybody to make a profit. I believe most of us have a code of ethics about trying and sharing before making a purchase. I know for a fact that I have spent big bucks on products that I was able to minimize my risk on purchasing by having a chance to use them first, in the same way that borrowing some friends' guitar effects pedals allowed me to make a better decision on what was a wise decision and what was a waste of money. Most of us are struggling and pretty poor, and I do firmly believe that an education should not be out of anybody's reach. Whatever path we choose to go down, I think it would behoove us to do our best to keep money out of the equation -- its not right and it obviously creates a huge target on the backs of those who do abuse the mantra of sharing.

On a more practical note, perhaps there can be a more efficient way of separating very large downloads, like sample libraries, from the smaller ones. If people reaaallly want to download 7 gigs of samples (which I don't really see the point of, just make your own, isn't the point of this to be original if not unique) maybe they should have to jump through a few more hurdles in order to keep the main content quick and simple to share.
