Curious how these 20yr old algos compare against the TC Icon series native plugs (DVR250, TC8210, TC1210, TC2290).

TC Icon series emulates TC hardware FX [and EMT] from the 80s, and TC 6000 is digital, so they should sound quite different.

I played a bit around with the VSSs.
Great sound, never cheap, never ringing (industry standard for good reason).
VSS3 with great ERs, VSS4 with great Setup (source positioning).

CPU consumption compared to Valhalla Plate:
VSS3 2,4 x
VSS4 17,4x (no joke!)

I hope that's just because it's v1.0. I'm always weary of 1.0 versions of anything. :/ Since I have simplified versions that runs on 15yo hardware, I'm a bit puzzled by such high CPU consumption.

It took them quite a while to debug their previous VSS3 Native reverb. I think the last version was 1.1.0 and since then it works great.

I can vouch for the VSS3 reverb. I like it quite a lot (deep programing if you wish it or damn goid presets) and the lastest incarnation is buggy free.

24bit only? That's a shame!
Such quality for the modern AirPods kiddies customers would be really an imposition!

Posted today on YT :
TC Electronic launch SYSTEM 6000 NATIVE DAW plug-ins, all of the performance, character, and usability of the iconic original flagship System 6000 hardware combined with modern-day convenience.

Our Danish engineers, including many from the original System 6000 team refined audio quality whilst staying faithful to the original hardware version and fastidiously re-engineered these new native plug-ins to offer full support for standard DAW automation and project recall with new optimized user interface ergonomics.

in relation to MD3, I don't understand why, bypassing the crossover (Lo Xover: Off / Hi Xover: Off), and this way acting as full range compressor, only the gain reduction of the "HI" band shows modulation.

Lemme try to explain:
3 bands = 3 bars (low, mid , high)
2 bands = 2 bars (mid, high)
1 band = ?
  Resident 8.10.2016 2 175

Right. But full range doesn't means that only hi band are been compressed as the GUI show us.

your Hi band becomes the ONLY band for full range. that's the one that operates on the whole spectrum, hence the meter showing the action.

CPU-hungry and small latency. Not worth the trouble with LiquidSonics available. That's my mini-review.

You are far from having the qualifications to write for audio magazines reviews as this first comment from you proves that you haven't really tested much here.

Since when does LiquidSonics make EQs, compressors and true-peak limiters?

Since when can a convolution reverb compete with NONLIN2?

Your first review and post here, on AZ, is mediocre.

Maybe some of you'd like to have a listen through them on an HD audio track ? ( hours... )
One Night With TC ( 6000 ) and Mylène Farmer ( 59 ) : " Je te dis tout. "

For now : MD4HD & NONLIN2 : magnificent !

Addendum : as you can read from the spectrogram's vertical spikes, the mix is not really / fully at 96 kHz. Disappointing :

In my opinion, the newly released material from Tc Electronic, SSL, Eventide and Lexicon smokes all other Plugins.

Right, the file has a SR of 48kHz, but that's not MD4's fault. MD4 (aswell as MD3) works perfectly fine at 96kHz SR.

@No Avenger :
If this is about the M.F track - I'm not sure I understand you correctly- , I must have wrongly expressed myself. I wasn't incriminating the plug-ins.

What I meant by the addendum is that this Blu Ray isn't a full, real 96kHz render. In fact, it looks to me as the CD mix, and only reaches higher frequencies with the main vocal, as sybillances :

Si d'aventure
Je quittais terre
Tu es mon sang
Mon double aimant

So more precisely on the timeline :
=> " Sang " at 1:41 min

Later on, at 1:48 min :
=> Et Sur ton pull

Etc.

yeah, sometimes they do s**t like that, there's no bigger sucker than the common audiophile, so the record companies take advantage. there are some respectable labels one can trust when it comes to real hi-res, not sure what release is this one ...

@Nanook :

In the case of Mylène Farmer - and so her producer Laurent Boutonnat and her manager Thierry Suc ( no pun... ), the answer is that this trio creates a label for each of their productions : studio album, live album, live show, live DVD / Blu Ray. And all merchandising going with it - and there are tons, generating tons of cash -. They are really the Queen - and Kings here -.

I was talking about the 2 reverbs, obviously. The quality is dismal.

And I exactly answered you about NONLIN2 which is reverb.

See ? You don't even know what this release is about.

This release is about a few not-very-good products by TC Electronic. Not impressed by them. You might have a different opinion and that's also legitimate. No need to get too agitated about it.
