With well over 1,000 albums to his name, more than 40 years of back-to-back work producing records of the highest echelon and a discography that reads like a who’s who of jazz, he is nothing short of an industry icon. The seminal albums by the likes of Michael Brecker, John Scofield and Joshua Redman as well as, not least, his work with jazz drumming greats like Elvin Jones, Jack DeJohnette, Paul Motian, Bill Stewart, Brian Blade and Antonio Sanchez are – to say the least – a testament to that.

Warbling electric guitar with pulsating tremolo and slapback echoes and tender acoustic guitar are performed alongside Colombian gaita, an ancestral wooden flute descended from indigenous tribes. Recorded at Niño Lento’s New York home studio, the pack’s adventurous playing recalls traditional cumbia and Afro-funk.

The Motherdrummer - 92 minutes of Moog DFAM stems and patterning

Initially I wanted to create a new drum pack with my Moog DFAM. But honestly, this wasn’t really possible, because the DFAM is just not a regular groovebox or drumsynth. It’s more like a percussive-synth-thingie with huge focus on permanently changing and evolving sounds thanks to its sequencer. So I sampled 40 full sequence stems plus 22 variations from the DFAM, all evolving over several minutes, gave them some love through my modular Tube Distortion Filter and finally some software treatment for finalising. The result features 92 minutes of instant Techno & Electro patterns.
