Save your money completely Pro tools is nothing more than over hyped crap
I am Glad I never parted with my cash and got to see
just how little is given for the money one would pay

If people consider this a professional environment there kidding themselves
there is definitely better.

Its not complicated it is absolutely pure rubbish, no wonder 1000's of people and studios are migrating to other environments

thanks for the preview but -

Hardlock it's not about what people think is professional it's about what people use in professional environments, it's almost always pro-tools. I really hate using it too (only because it's not Ableton tho) but if you want to work in either professional music or post production studio environments then you have to get used to using it as it's always used. I wont pass my college course without passing pro-tools 101 for example. Anywhere you see a real mixing desk chances are it has protools on the attached mac. Not ideal but just the way it is, give it ten years and things'll be different.

Also people should read Mykal's post on page 3 of the comments here...

but it is the king of DAWs

King of Daw's hey? lol so that's why Digidesign sold it off to Avid LOL. they made out like bandits.

Now that Avid can't use Apple's OS as shield against piracy, as Apple is pretty much done with the desktop divisions and already shoke off the Pro video people with the Final Cut X fiasco taking out the pro studio features you see now Avid scrambling back to the PC and Windows, the problem is while they were in Bed with Apple to protect their Daw from piracy The Daw's in Windows 7/8 have exploded in numbers. Even Motu is seeing the light and are heading to Windows 7 with Digital Performer 8, if that does not tell you where things in Apple desktop Daw's are heading you are being very naive and very stubborn. The mac daw days are fkin over, get over it man!! even on the video side it's over, as Apple does not want to make Pro products anymore as there is more money selling cell phones and small gadgets to the masses instead of a few fools who think just because they have money that they should be the only ones to have access to tools, pathetic!! And for this I really have to thank Apple as they have told the Pro users "We are catering to everyone, your shit stinks like everyone elses"

u re right coolios, but posh people will always strut around with their apple shit they paid 3 times its value, maybe one day, when the fear to lose the warranty will be gone, they will finally open their precious computers and will see that a custom made pc with better components would have saved them a lot of money and will wonder if jizzing on apple was worth the money they spent

Question serious PT users:

First, let me say that I have been following this thread (not this one but the original PT 10.3.0 leak from VR, and now this one). I must say, it has been quite a ride! I love how everyone came together (at one point, anyway )and worked toward a common goal and succeeded!! well...almost!! Work still to be done...

Anyway, I've been messing around with PT for a few weeks to try to understand why it is considered the "king of DAWs". FWIW, I'm a singer/songwriter mostly but I do run a modest recording business on the side.

I've tried almost every DAW out there(that is windows compatible) and I have settled with REAPER as my main DAW, although I like Samplitude/Sequoia for mastering, etc.

The thing I like about REAPER is that it is stable, easy on CPU, places nice with all my plugins, works with loops well. It's just a really nice, all around DAW for recording musicians.

Having said that, what does Pro Tools 10 offer, in terms of recording, mixing, mastering, that other current DAWs don't?

I'm not posting this to bash PT...

I'm just curious to know if there's stuff that I'm missing that PT does well that I'm unaware of...

Not looking to start a PT vs. (insert your) DAW debate!!!!

Only serious PT guys please respond.

boltor,
nothing more than other DAW's,they re all the same, they re recorders after all, what makes someone choose a DAW rather than another is the confidence a user gets with their choice,i tried almost every DAW too,and i m very fine with PT,does it do more than others?nois it better than sequoia?yes, sequois a plugin manager is pure shit;is it better than cubase?even my tascam 464 was better than cubase, unless u think the worls is midi based and audio can go to hell,in that case cubase is better;is it better than sonar?it s isn t in terms of features,it is in terms of ease of use and clean look;is it better than reaper?in my experience thing in reaper sound terrible,so yes.

@ coolios Although I do agree with many of your points , some of your facts are in correct. Digidesign has been a part of the AVID family since 1995. Remember the days when M-Audio use to be Midiman? And as far as being the KING well that is up to everybody to decide for themselves but I will say this much.. ProTools is the only DAW that has ever received a Grammy.

the only reason why people use it as an industry standard, is because it was the first daw out and been out there longer than any other one. Everyone went to protools when it came out, made records etc., so it had credibility there. Thing is other daws came out that had alot more features and stabibility, BUT werent out in the market as long as Pro Tools. That is the thing, it's the time factor really.

thanks Mykal :o)

I am not bashing people for doing things their own way. However if you look at Reaper ( cockos) was started by Justin Frankel who instead of enjoying his millions he got from the sale of Winamp to AOL he went out and spent his time and money hiring people to code the Reaper Daw. It is people like him that we need around and I paid for the Daw since it was a tax write off. Canadian Government is keen on taxes LOL, maybe Obama can hire the Canadian CRA as they would probably put shake up the USA government tee hee,

Well Motu Digital Performer 8 (INTEL MAC OS X) was just released by Team Dynamics. Not doubt the Windows version is around the corner. As you may not know Digital Performer 8 is now available for Windows 7 as well.

A cold day in hell, Motu switches to Windows LOL.

well if Avid think that relying on the name Pro Tools
will continue a good Market Share of the professional Industry
they better start to rethink the Approach to business models

As most of us Now have seen this Audio Digital Mosh pit
it is highly unlikely they will continue with any form of
dominance in the Professional Audio Industry within the coming years.

If this Application was so Legendary professional it also would
of been 64bit Years Ago so it shows its way behind the times

64bit processors were available in 2001

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64-bit_computing

especially to the Posh Porsche Bastards who say you have to have This is like having a Red porcshe to make good audio

Want to start talking Porsche systems lets talk " The Cray Systems" then the
conversation is in the porsche league. Company's like AVID wouldn't even get there submission viewed to develop applications to be used on those systems.

Question
why then did Avid not move there PRO TOOLS to 64bit in 2001?

Answer

Because they didn't need to re-invent the wheel because you were all paying large amounts of money for what you thought was The "KING" of Audio Work Stations but not understanding it was nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

The only reason this crap got a Grammy was because it was used by
a Producer/engineer whom was Brainwashed into thinking he had a porsche

And the Winner for this Grammy is Wait for it..... Wait for it......... Card Please

AVID PRO TOOLS Speech... Speech..ha ha ha... Like Fuck it did

wake the fuck up and get over it.

Rethink your business model Avid or succumb to Eventual Bankruptcy

To "Anonymous" To work on Pro Tools any longer only Advertises Avid's Product. to the public to get scammed into buying it to have dissatisfaction with Avid support and the Application once purchased.

Don't work on this Crap Any longer Anonymous time to move on
......purge...it......

Those of you who hate Pro Tools just go and use the DAW you like and stop bitching! It only makes you look jealous!

Is somebody going to finally tell us whether this really works or not? No success installations up to now?

Well for me it "works" but still has some access violations that you can click "ok" on and continue working and an occasional random crash. Had a new error while recording yesterday regarding "user privilege". This is just on my system though and I don't know how much of these issues are crack related versus Pro Tools related. For me, this is good enough to play with and learn pro tools but I wouldn't count on it for anything long term...but that's just me and my system, others may be worse or better.

I've followed both pro tools 10 threads for weeks too and I can only agree that it has been quite a ride! At this point I would like to thank VR Team ( I am so thankful that so many great teams give us the chance to try /use software that many of us couldn't even dream of buying) and also JustTrying for his great work along with many others who took the time to help along the way. Thanks also to Saint and Audioz and people who share so much with other people.
I've been involved in playing/ writing music for almost 40 years (shock !!!) and I began integrating computers into my music in 1987. It's always been on a hobby, semi-pro basis except on one occasion where I had the opportunity to turn pro. That was where I really got to see behind the scenes of the music industry, and gave it the middle finger! As you all can imagine, I have tried a lot of daws out, and can only say everyone uses the daw that suites their music style, and their workflow. The first daw I used, was Samplitude in 1991-2. It was win 3.1 at that time, and Samplitude offered max. 8 tracks. (samplitude originated in East Germany and was called SEKD Samplitude at that point) I've used Samplitude ever since, and it has never disappointed me. I also use Cubase, and Reaper for certain jobs.
There are so many good daws around now,I think everyone can find one that suites themselves.
As far as Pro Tools goes, this has been my first opportunity to really try it out (thanks once again VR) and I must
say I like it! Of course it's not technically up to date, and I agree that it's reign is probably coming to an end, but it just has something about it that makes it different. Where as most PC based daws always seem to react a bit "sluggish" to me, Pro Tools is very nimble and light-footed. If anyone knows a bit about DTP progs. it feels like the difference between Quark Xpress and Page Maker (now Indesign). It's all very subjective I suppose. Strange that Quark also originated in the Mac world.
The reason Pro Tools has become the studio standard probably has something to do with its integration with the hardware side of things.
As far as Mac users go, I would definitely leave the "sinking ship". I could put it this way, anyone with a social, or humanitarian attitude, or in fact just a bit of common sense, would not throw their money down the throats of Apple or their likes.

PS. I can only say the same as PTPatty, it's working, but not 100%. I want to try my latest installation out a couple of days before I say more.

LOL

This release is working fully for me, just installed right over PT8. And I think "Anonaymous" just has a different sense of humor, nothing malicious going on here.

After 60 pages of comments, it is still down to Team V.R.'s original leaked "beta 7" patch and the one byte MF-error remover. Nothing new in this release except the "funny" texts (says Mr. Hex Editor). It is still the same 10.3.0 patch, though this time it is dumped into a 10.3.2 installation - which works better for some, worse for others. If you want the same version but without the goofy texts - see the previous original posting, and jump in around page 37 or so. (As such I agree with masterJ - this posting is redundant).

As to the software being uncrackable - I dare say that so far nothing really has proven to be uncrackable. Somebody just needs to want it enough.

superconductor, It was exactly the same 10 years ago when I did/got my PT certificates from Digidesign FWIW. Although these days there are Logic, Ableton and other dedicated courses and/or they are used within the core of a larger course. Good luck FWIW and hope that you pass. The 'exam' part is abit like doing one's driving theory test well from way back when I got 'qualified' ;) As it happens I use Pro Tools only out of neccessity and Ableton Live most of the time I'm not needing to use Pro Tools. Admittedly IMO Pro Tools is just so damned simple/quick for multi-tracking and editing/mixing I find along with many other's I know whom feel exactly the same. I think that is why it remains the 'industry standard'...If ain't broke then many people are not going to switch to 'insert whichever digital audio workstation each person prefers here' as rightly pointed out. All the best

I had alot of hope when AV*o*ID released v9 of Pro Tools. It was open, At a fair price and the bigger studios could still use all the way overpriced HD DSP cards but when v10 was announced and AVOID seemingly took everything away that was a step forwards hope left. So I am on v9 and shall not be upgrading. Only benefit of v10 is a lifted Euphonix EQ/Dynamics 'channel strip'. Then nail in the coffin was the announcement of HDX crap. Granted they sound alot better I/O wise than the crappy old 192s but really offer fuck all for the money...Makes UAD2 apollo loaded with 2 of the most expensive DSP cards and every UAD plugin seem like a no-brainer 'bargain' in comparisson. Oh and the fucking foul stench of the 'Toolkit' for lesser (non HD/HD Native) users DIGI tax. They are having a laugh. Be great to see them go under along with smug Apple selling under specced stuff to idiots. Job's Faustian pact ran out. iMacunt ;p
