More or less. It would be like spreading the Slate Digital VMR with the VMS models. Using them on a vocal track without the actual mic is bound to get you weird results, since the whole system is meant to be in tandem with each other.

If their goal was to simulate other mics: These guys do not have any sense of science. In the days of Artificial Intelligence, using passive control method to achieve the goal is ridiculous, With active or feedback control, theoretically, you make any mic sound like any other mic. For example, by predefined sample tests and Eq matching.
If their goal was to sell their mics: such a nice feature for their mics!

I did. Nt1 A. Works fine. Been using it since they made the soft available for download. dont expect massive changes. But it gives you a nice effect. Especially the nt1a usally has an harsh high freq and this makes it smoother

it works with all good quality condenser mics, altering the sound somewhat. i don't think their mic is better than my neumann tlm :))) . hell it even works with my cheap presonus condenser. at the end of the day, it's only hype

The Sphere plug-in requires audio recorded with the Sphere L22 microphone: That's mean the Shere L22 ''Mic'' Is not 1D MIC ITS 3D? other's mics will work on it. But it's about the ''architecture'' of the mic and condensers to be able to catch the sound that going to be re-stimulated by very precise algorithms of the diagram of existing a legend mic's using Sphere Plug-in ! it makes me think about it a min Good Luck

While there is nothing stopping you from doing that, the results will most likely be extremely poor. The Sphere microphone is specifically designed and calibrated to work with the plug-in. There are very tight tolerances on frequency response and polar response of the Sphere L22 microphone, so that the modeling is consistent from mic to mic. But even more importantly, the microphone is dual-channel, which encodes the directional information for the plug-in which would be entirely lost with a single channel microphone.

How I made it to work without their mic...

- Load a mono audio file on your DAW
- Make a double of the track
- Set 1 of the 2 tracks to have a lower output by 5 to 8db
-pan 1 track fully left and 1 fully right
- Send both channels to a Sub-buss
- Open the Sphere plugin on the sub-buss

That way it works.

Hey peghead, interesting concept in trying to recreate the two capsules but wouldn't results vary widely depending on what mic you used? When you say "it works", do you mean the results are pleasing or have you actually captured the sound of the modeled mic. What mic are you using by the way?
