Native Instruments Noire v1.0.0 KONTAKT-SYNTHiC4TE screenshot
SYNTHiC4TE | March 26 2019 | 14.4 GB
Native Instruments has announced the release NOIRE, a new Kontakt instrument that captures the signature grand piano sound of composer and pianist Nils Frahm.

The instrument – which includes both pure and felt preparation versions of a Yamaha CFX 9’ concert grand – was meticulously sampled in the rich ambient environment of Saal 3 in Berlin’s Funkhaus recording complex.

The result is a unique, intense, and evocative instrument, with an atmosphere all of its own.
Two distinct sample sets – pure and felt

NOIRE offers new sonic inspiration for solo compositions, scoring, and more, with two distinct grand piano sample sets.

The pure version presents the clear, unadulterated tone of Nils Frahm’s handpicked and custom-intonated concert grand piano, captured in a renowned recording studio.

The felt version is the same piano, in the same room, but with a felt moderator between hammers and strings, which creates a gentle tone with reduced attack.

Users can sculpt the sound of both versions by adjusting attack, release, resonance, overtones, velocity curve, temperament, and more.
Extensive creative customization options

NOIRE provides a wide array of creative options so users can make the sound their own.

Users can add natural and mechanical noises to enhance realism, dial in sub bass, alter the spectral character of the instrument, and choose from sound design effects to completely transform the instrument’s sound.

NOIRE also offers EQ, compression, reverb, and delay for fine-tuning the piano’s place in the mix.

To help spark new creative ideas, NOIRE incorporates an innovative particles engine that automatically generates clouds of pulsating, swirling harmonic elements based on what users play.

Version 6.0.4 or higher

Interesting library.

Looking forward to read some some personal reviews here
You can't have everything; where would you put it?

hats off to horsemen/synthic4te - so very thankful :)
got to hang out for a bit with nils once after a show - a super warm person; much a personality reflection of the music he writes. he was very humble and open to talking about nerdy music stuff... he's worth supporting indeed.

so far to my ears.. whoa this lib sounds really lovely - in the same vein as the una corda but def more of a "normal piano" feel. i think if you combined the una corda with this you'd get a really cool effect. what i love about the una corda is all the nuance sounds you can mix in - room ambience, the player sounds, felt/mechanical ambience - this one has all that too. i wonder if NI just reused all the same ones from una corda? hopefully not.

at any rate, the "felt" nki is super warm and soft. whereas the "pure" one is a bit colder and brighter - but still both noire presets are really good for slower, quieter passages - a la nils' style for slow cinematic cues. doing the "eyes closed with in ear buds on" realism test, i really get a sense of being transported to feel like actually sitting in front of a real piano(or listening to one of those super intimate piano albums like "Ichiru by Daigo Hanada"). especially with the pedal down and with some of the extra sounds added in like room noise. but noire comes out of the box to just immediately sound great i think - instant grat is super important for this kind of thing. really, only on the faster, minimal passages(i.e. playing a single chord/notes over and over quickly) do i notice any sort of breakdown of that realism; where the "this kind of feels like a sampled piano" effect comes in - but it's really subtle. i mean, if you were doing really repetitive minimal stuff with this but mixed in other instruments on top(especially a real live soloist) no one would notice. maybe only a really trained pianist's ears could even tell that it's a sampled piano(if nobody told them first), let alone a reasonable 15 gig one.

it also reminds me a lot of the tonehammer "emotional piano" lib that i've used for years - but obvs this one has a ton more options under the hood and sounds more refined - some of the notes in emotional piano are not dynamically tuned well and i've had to go in and tweak the mappings over the years(but kontakt pianos have def come a long way in the last 5 years!). so if you wanted a lighter weight piano that has that same warmth subtle niche as noire then i'd recommend the 5 gig emotional piano, although this one costs the same so go figure...

but for now i'll be investing in this damn fine soft piano and switching over to using it full time for sketches cuz it sounds and feels really so immediately inspiring and great...

sounds very good, super versatile ... and the "particles engine" is a really impressive invention: very inspiring, at least for lousy piano players like me - thanks a lot for this one!

I watched it yesterday, this guys tests everything piano, soft or hardware, clavias, motifs, montages, you name it.

If you want to watch it, here it is:

Luckily I found the sense to search all the comments before I posted a noob question! Hoping this works... nice one

Thanks a lot! This really works, confirmed on Mojave. Library wasn't appearing on any kontakt, and now works :)

Didn't work for me, unfortunately. They already had the same number. Kontakt "adds" the library, but it doesn't show up in the tab. If I try to load it via the "load" menu, it won't add the NKI's either. Says they're corrupt.

Hmmm, allright, using Kontakt regular 6.04 here, and the Noire showed up ad "DEMO"..and timed out after a while....did I do something wrong by using it with an "untouched" Kontakt ?

you need a k'ed Kontakt to run these libraries

New here, I just bought a komplete control that came with a fair amount of libraries.
Am I going to really be screwing things up if I install a modd'ed version of Kontakt on top of my legit program/libraries? Thanks.

sounds amazing but the particles causes a big cpu hit

Because it plays several full length samples of octave intervals in arpeggios, plus FX, plus reverb. I didn't find where to control the tempo for this, btw.
Let's face it: it's a toy for kids, not for serious task! ...other than some psychedelic musical effort.

Tnx mate, I suspected so...but I'm reluctant to install a k'ed Kontakt over a legit one...

on Windows you can use the Portable version independently and simultaneously with the legit Kontakt. On mac there is only the option using the windows version of Kontakt via W.I.N.E concept.

Agreed. But just to say a quote from wiki:
"the project developers have agreed to standardize on the form Wine."
So it's not an acronym, as you stated.
It's just a backronym.
The Clavichord is from the Late Middle Ages. It's not a Clavinet.

for 14.4gb this sucks.... arturias piano v2 is better than this. Kontakt libraries are really starting to become overrated. Hell the plugin itself is getting overrated by now. Waste of space imo

It's entertaining to read all the bitching in this thread for a wares version (that is free FFS) of what I think is an interesting Piano. The Particle engine ads an interesting almost ghosting pad that just gives another option in a track. We have Piano stereo mic'ed in the house permanently connected to the DAW, but I'm always looking for variations. Hey, if you don't like it, don't install it, there is no all-encompassing piano sound for composition as different dishes require different ingredients and approaches. Variety is the spice of life. If you are in here bitching about the nuances of this virtual instrument over that one, you should be writing tracks and thanking your stars you have access to all these possibilities.
This is a great Piano sound that's very useful if you write "into" it.
Anyways that's my 2 cents worth.. get a life, it's a beautiful world :-)

I think you are misunderstanding the comments. People share their opinion about the release.
The main purpose of this place is to have the chance to try before you buy.

Yeah maybe... If only that were "actually" true, I'd be OK with it. Some of the comments really read like those people who are addicted to collecting guitars that never get used on a recording or a gig. Maybe Kontakt Libraries are the new Pokemon status symbols? Oh I got the Malayan Monk hand cymble handjob but it's not as good as the Tibetan yak herders ass thimble hit with Lithuanian milk maids chastity clamp??? I have lots of respect for some of the heavy hitters in this community (you know who you are.. yeah you... My point is this is really good, booted it up, played with it and in 5 minutes instant inspiration, like getting fucked in the ear by an angel...But hey maybe I'm just a cynical old muso whos getting less and less on their rider :-) As I say, it's not the meat, its the motion :-)
