Native Instruments has announced the release NOIRE, a new Kontakt instrument that captures the signature grand piano sound of composer and pianist Nils Frahm.

The instrument – which includes both pure and felt preparation versions of a Yamaha CFX 9’ concert grand – was meticulously sampled in the rich ambient environment of Saal 3 in Berlin’s Funkhaus recording complex.

The result is a unique, intense, and evocative instrument, with an atmosphere all of its own.
Two distinct sample sets – pure and felt

NOIRE offers new sonic inspiration for solo compositions, scoring, and more, with two distinct grand piano sample sets.

The pure version presents the clear, unadulterated tone of Nils Frahm’s handpicked and custom-intonated concert grand piano, captured in a renowned recording studio.

The felt version is the same piano, in the same room, but with a felt moderator between hammers and strings, which creates a gentle tone with reduced attack.

Users can sculpt the sound of both versions by adjusting attack, release, resonance, overtones, velocity curve, temperament, and more.
Extensive creative customization options

NOIRE provides a wide array of creative options so users can make the sound their own.

Users can add natural and mechanical noises to enhance realism, dial in sub bass, alter the spectral character of the instrument, and choose from sound design effects to completely transform the instrument’s sound.

NOIRE also offers EQ, compression, reverb, and delay for fine-tuning the piano’s place in the mix.

To help spark new creative ideas, NOIRE incorporates an innovative particles engine that automatically generates clouds of pulsating, swirling harmonic elements based on what users play.

I'm gald that you find this library inspiring and good.
On the other hand, there is no point in denigrating members who write a negative opinion about it.
Speaking negatively about them as persons does not bring any musical nor technical value to the table.

This is easily the most comprehensive piano library NI has ever done. First, the piano is deeply sampled and a dream to play to begin with (it has 22 velocity layers).

What i like most about this library is the new tonal shift knob. Pair it with the color knob and you can come up with some interesting facets for this piano. Basically, you can make it sound as clean as Garritan CFX or as fully bodied/deep as Keyscape's C7. And the 22 velocity layers deliver on both aspects, making it a dream to play.

Particles Engine is very complex. First you need to learn the basics of each of its functions and once you do that it will be a playground for sound design.

Yeah, I hear ya. My point is its a monster, a sound design weapon with endless possibilities. Sure you can get the effect of the particle engine with any number of effects, but its right there, a very very powerful tool, built in adding overtones, rhythmic and harmonic elements that lead to other possibilities, its just not a piano. If you treat it as just a piano, you're kind of missing the point.
I guess Jon describes the piano beautifully, sometimes they will give you a great kick drum...lol

I would says it's better than Addictive Keys, Emotional Piano, Pearl Grand, EZKeys, Kawai EXPro, Garritan Steinway, LIPP, Ivory 2..

Maybe on-par with "Piano in Blue" in terms of realism and somewhat dynamics.. it's warmer, polite and quite versatile offering a wide range of styles and sound design options.

So for now I consider worth having:
Piano in Blue, Cinepiano, Noire, Alicia Keys and EZ Upright, they're all different animals..

Need to try Hammersmith and Keyscape one of this days.

It's funny tho how after playing a VST piano for a while, the next one will sound cartoonish until the ears settle..

I guess I missed something : this one is for Kontakt 6 and we can't install libraries since Kontakt 5.7, I'm wondering how do you do to make it working ? Thank for your help!

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me. During unpacking there are some errors. Despite I used "repair" option in winrar and then unpacked again with repaired volumes it didn't help :(
