Passion Reflected in Every Detail
We placed the awe-inspiring Yamaha CFX Concert Grand Piano in Abbey Road Studio One, where award-winning engineers used the world’s greatest microphones and equipment to create a stunning virtual instrument library.

A truly remarkable virtual piano
The Garritan Abbey Road Studios CFX Concert Grand places the user on the bench before the Yamaha CFX, an incredible concert grand piano characterized by a wide palette of tonal colors and the ability to create the most subtle, expressive nuances. This beautiful instrument is matched with the stunning acoustics of Abbey Road Studios’ legendary Studio One and the finest collection of microphones in the world.

All facets of this project – the instrument, the room, the mics, and the recording expertise – work together to create the finest sampled piano ever captured. Experience the passion reflected in every detail.

The Yamaha CFX Concert Grand Piano
The CFX piano marks a significant milestone in Yamaha’s celebrated 108-year history as an acclaimed world-class piano maker. In 1991, Yamaha began its most ambitious piano project ever: to create a new generation of grand piano for concert, conservatoire and studio performance.

The result was the CFX Concert Grand Piano, a revolutionary new instrument that embodies the concept of beauty and power. The rich palette of tonal colors and musical voices the piano can produce characterizes its beauty. The power comes from the CFX’s unprecedented tonal projection. The development and evaluation phase of this remarkable instrument took almost 20 years. During this time, a 40-strong team of the world’s most talented piano designers, technicians, craftsmen and, of course, pianists deconstructed the concert grand and began rebuilding it from the ground up. Every aspect of traditional piano design was questioned, evaluated, improved and relentlessly tested. Once the design was nearing completion, multiple prototypes endured thousands of hours of secret testing at concert halls across the globe.

Each CFX is entirely hand-built by a small team comprising some of the world’s most experienced and skilled craftsmen. All materials are meticulously selected and refined to ensure unprecedented music performance in the most demanding of situations. It offers outstanding expressiveness for a truly musical performance. With enough tonal presence to be heard over the sound of a full symphony orchestra in the largest of concert halls, the CFX is truly one of the greatest pianos ever created.

Abbey Road Studios
Abbey Road Studios is the most famous recording studios in the world and a global music icon. Home to countless landmark recordings and pioneering advances in recording technology, the legendary studio complex has a phenomenal history spanning over 80 years, encompassing celebrated work by many of the world’s most famous recording artists including The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Kanye West, Elton John, Oasis, Elbow, Lady Gaga and Adele. Composers and musicians from around the world turn to Abbey Road Studios when they desire the very best.

Studio One
Abbey Road Studios’ Studio One is one of the largest and most beautiful sounding orchestral studios in the world. The space can easily accommodate a 110 piece orchestra and 100 piece choir simultaneously. Studio One’s acoustics are as famous as its location, offering a supremely warm and clear sound with a reverb time of 2.3 seconds. This makes it perfect for numerous types of recording, from solo piano to large orchestras.

Studio One is Abbey Road’s largest recording space and has enjoyed a remarkable history. Architects Wallis Gilbert and Partners decorated the original walls of Studio One in their distinctive art-deco style, which gave the room a darker sound than its current, superior-sounding incarnation. In 1931 the impressive room hosted Abbey Road’s inaugural recording session with Sir Edward Elgar, and has since hosted historic sessions by the London Symphony Orchestra and luminaries ranging from Yehudi Menuhin, Pablo Casales, Bela Bartok and Jascha Heifetz to Glenn Miller and Fats Waller. In 1967, Studio One played host to The Beatles’ famous performance of ‘All You Need Is Love,’ which was captured as part of the first ever live, international satellite TV broadcast.

When Studio One opened, it was used primarily by EMI’s prestigious His Master’s Voice (HMV) label and it continues to host classical recordings to this day. It is also one of the world’s premiere locations for movie scoring: the long list of blockbuster scores recorded in Studio One includes Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars, the Lord of The Rings Trilogy and Gravity.

Holy cow this is a huge release. R2R released the Lite version a long time ago and it looked like it was quite a bit of work for them to properly cr:)ck it. The full version was available only on physical media for a long time but apparently it got published as a download version not too long ago. R2R's Lite version required the install of additional programs, like Aria engine. Is this based on R2R's release, and does it require additional work like it? Anyway, I am excited to see the full version here, incredible, very grateful!! Thank you!!

Amazing, thank you. I thought that those license pictures you download from their website are locked to the individual buyer's system, but looks like that's not true?

So, the full version is 122Gb, and the Compact version is 25Gb...
Is this the Compact in Aria's compressed format?
The Clavichord is from the Late Middle Ages. It's not a Clavinet.

The full version has three mic pairs (six mics) =122 GB after unpack
The lite version has only one single mic taken from one of those pairs =25 GB after unpack

Really.
And this is 13.9Gb.
So I'd still like an answer.
No, the Lite that you referred to above is 2.35Gb...
The Compact is 25Gb...

Full: 13.9 gb before unpack ... 122 gb after unpack
Lite: 2.45 gb before unpack ... 25 gb after unpack

Compression does the trick

So...which version is this, @ 13.9Gb, please?

Wow. I've never met anything that can compress 24Gb to 2.45Gb! lol!
Or 122Gb to 13.9Gb! I'm literally speechless!

Full: 133Gb
Compact: 24.5Gb
Lite: 22Gb

According to website.
The Clavichord is from the Late Middle Ages. It's not a Clavinet.

This is the full version, about 122 GB compressed to about 14 GB.

To clear any confusion. There is no compact version, only full and lite. "Compact" is a preset or a mic config that will only load a certain number of velocity layers for faster loading at the expense of detail.

You can delete individual mics after install by the way in order to lower install size. But you have to install everything first. This is a huge piano LOL

No confusion on my side.
Website states the Compact version, regardless of what it is, is 24.5. edit: ah, I see you are specifically referring to products. That is irrelevant.

You're honestly saying there is a software that can compress 133Gb to 14Gb?
What is it?

I have no idea. I suppose it's the same stuff that allows for a 2mb BMP file to be compressed to a few kb. This compression is only used for storage/transfer and not for real time decompression like FLAC etc.. I suppose it's similar to what repackers use in other warez circles, those repacks also have very long install times like this piano

'Repacks' also can have samples taken out e.g close-mics, or release tails...

It was an assumption. I have no idea what compression they use. Perhaps we can ask them to do a Q&A for non paying customers so pirates can be at peace about actually believing the product description on the web page of the product

There is no any lossless encoding format can compress like that. Probably they using OGG (like Roland or Waves) for installer and decompressing to WAV kind format. It means samples are lossy.

Its obviously magic because I downloaded 13GB and after installing it is more than 100gb on my Hard Drive. its not really a discussion point of how it happens, its just a fact that it does 13GB becomes 133GB and sounds rather good.
  Resident 11.11.2014 323

Rofl, no, it is not lossy

Drag the file - out11566526-6091.png on to the GUI

You have to open the plugin (I think preferably the standalone version) and then drag and drop the picture (out.....png) into the plugin for activation.

Might not be the full version, but I'm nominating it for "Lengthiest Install Process" award.

You guys should be making a statue for Talula for this release :) I bought this 2 years ago and it's hands down the most responsive and dynamic piano sampled library in existence. I usually call it up when i want to console myself for not having a real grand piano in my house, yes it's that close.

Tone wise, it's a little cold for me and also you will have a hard time getting rid of that Abbey Road ambiance hence it's basically present in all the mics like a leech lol.
