The seeds of CRYSTAL DAGGERS emerged in the mid-2000s when underground hip hop producers began adding dubstep, IDM, and techno elements to their music. At the same time, but separately, electronic music producers began spicing up their tracks with hip hop inflections. Somewhere near the dawn of the new decade, this trend took shape as a music of its own. CRYSTAL DAGGERS captures the lifespan of this music with sounds and patterns that run until the present day.

Reggae was born in late 1960s Jamaica, growing out of the rocksteady tradition and featuring laid-back rhythms, syncopated, off-beat accents, and big, bottom-heavy basslines that carried the music forward. Soon, Lee "Scratch" Perry started applying effects to reggae classics and created a new style – dub reggae. As dub spread to Europe, it evolved into dub techno and dubstep. Today, the seed of dub reggae is found in much of today’s electronic music, including the hyperactive bass wobbles and groovy, mid-tempo rhythms of U.S. dubstep styles.

MINING THE DEEP
CAVERN FLOOR is a sound design lover’s playground. A selection of today’s finest drum machines were sampled and layered with hard-hitting acoustic drums and percussion. Legendary synthesizers were used for the melodic content. These sounds were re-amped through rotary speakers, guitar cabinets, and more using top-quality microphones, and then processed with select outboard gear and up-to-the-minute sound design techniques, resulting in a payload of custom sound.
