actually there's a high chance that you are the new one in town, first it's not EDM scene, that thing didn't even exist back in the early 2,000 let alone the 90's.

Having said that, real purists and those who know how the music industry works know that most if not all of the producers in the trance scene have or have worked with at least one co-producer or ghost producer, it's well known in places like tranceaddict.com that only a handful of people produce for the whole scene.

That is not strange at all and it's pretty common in pop for example, the project known as armin van buuren has had involvement of many producers over the years, from people like gabriel & dresden, ferry, jan vayne, adrian & raz (huge involvement, they made shivers, perpetual dreamer songs, etc.) , amongst the people who have worked for him are: dj remi, lars huniche, guy chambers, sha himself and the producer of markus shulz (there's a guy working for him whose name i can't remember) just to name a few. It was airwave himself who taught armin many things in his early years and then ferry, it's sad that armin has so much pride that he never thanks all those who made "him".

If you can't recognize the obvious rank 1 style in mirage and imagine albums you don't really know much about this genre. In fact there's a video where armin himself says he only supplies benno with ideas while he creates loops but he never mentions he composes, because he doesn't. And before anyone says why all these people are not in armins credits, it's because that's the whole point of a "project", only the main guy appears and he decides who appears and who doesn't, since he's paying. You can explain to me why people like berry goedemans who worked for josh gabriel doesn't appear in his credits... and that's just one person, there are countless of people who work for big names in "secret", forget the ghost producers, there are ghost mixers, sound designers, beat makers, etc and each of them have an impact on the final song, let's not underestimate their work.

Armin fanboys are all over the place, the worst thing you can do in music is to idolize people because once you find out the truth your in for a big dissapointment.

There are a lot of trance music producers who do everything by his self . Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten are two of them and many other guys who you don't know but other people know who really listen trance

BTW I have release from Black Hole Recordings as Trance Artist and i do everything by myself from producing, writing , programming and engineering as mixing engineer but most of you as listeners really follow only ASOT , except ASOT you don't know about real Trance artists.

Trance scene became as bitching area and it sounds like Britney Spears, Christina Aguelaria's egos around there.

Scene is full of shit because of listeners .

Doing all the things by yourself is great for your own skills and it serves as the good beginning point. But trust me in order to succeed in sales and fan numbers you need good entertainment attorney (American preferably) first and foremost because they are connected through the whole web of music industry. Then you need promoters, some good A&R and then just then you need music people. If Marshmallow can make half a million dollars a year by producing music that sounds like introduction into music theory then you know it's really not about the music.

But let's talk about music people working on your tracks. That's a good thing actually. You have to know your weaknesses and strengths. My strengths are chord progression, lead melody and lead sound design, my weaknesses are mixing and mastering, arrangement, breakdown and build up design even thought I make really good drops and so on. I have no problem if audio engineer takes my stuff and mixes it however he feel like, same for the mastering. I also have no problem if some producer takes my arrangement and makes it tighter by switching scenes all around. I don't bother with kicks at all, I pick Vengeance kicks as place holders then I ask or pay someone to program or tune the kick to fit in better (I'm one of those that does melody first, then bass and than rhythm and percs last).

But most importantly other people inspire you to change things, evolve and move forward. And they make it a lot easier for you in the long run. This has nothing to do with AvB or DeadMau5 because those guys are projects with entourage of people, they are on level 99 tha's something you and I will never achieve but adding random people to your product can bring you to level 9.

Enjoy and have fun

You're pretty naive if you think Marshmello "only" makes half a million dollars a year. It's almost certainly more, and if it's not, he signed an extremely bad label and/or management deal.

True, first it was called Trouse haha and now it's just the same as all the other music that's popular. Real trance nowadays in NL comes from Black Hole indeed, Quest4Trance, Electronic Family (although ALDA Events is involved) etc. so higher BPM, more melody and rolling basses.

I don't follow it that much anymore but I'm still a fan of the late 90's / millennium switch period and visit from time to time a trance party with classics area (Johan Gielen his concept for example or Belgium Retro concepts). Still have some good memories too when it comes to Trance Energy early 00's. Not sure though if its revival at Tommorowland was a succes.

Been listening to "EDM" since the mid 90's, maybe you were not even born then?! LOL!
Corsten is a producer that produces the actual music, Armin did Communication alone I think, the rest are all with "ghost" producers, just like Tieso and David Guetta! Armin is like a movie producer, dare I say not even a director! Vincent De Moor has also been a ghost producer for many of the trance artists!

Present day big DJ's are like many pop stars, they (pop stars) may get a writing credit but in reality, they just turn up at the studio, sing what the producer tells them, and off they go. In other words, they had nothing to do with the production of the track or the writing of the song, hell, you change one word and you get a credit! AND then they give you the BS about the song being meaningful to them bla bla bla, like some of these DJ's I've heard state, let along the pop stars! It's called the "music industry" for a reason, it's industrial, pump out as much music and make as much money as you can, irrespective of the quality!

There's just a handful of producers out there. I can name a ton of deejays out there that don't produce. They can give an idea what direction the track should go but that's it.

Armin van buuren
Alex Morph
RAM
Simon patterson

The only real producer out there for me would be Ferry Corsten. His latest album is really good.

I'm not new and i'm agree with him so you are new one imo .

Armin did track by himself, it was when he was not famous on scene but for sure it was old time and now Benno is main head on his productions and Benno does mixing engineering , sound designs , writing melodies.

like he's really going to show you his best tricks...NEVER.
No one will, that's part of the music game:)

There's no trick. He's just found the things that works for him maybe not works for you at all. Every person and preferences are different and subsequently the various methods work for them differently.

Music is like life and every person should do it himself/herself. In life you find sth that you enjoy them a lot but they're just your findings and not related to my life.

His best trick is....to use his friend "Benno" to actually come up with lots of ideas, and he decides which he likes best, then make it a full length track. LOL
