The same reg file that has been working for the last few version numbers works for this one as well. Just grab the newest one off the dev site and move on.

Compression depends on file type.
With non-compressed data files (ISO, for exemple) you can achieve good compression. But with already compressed files (JPEG, PDF ...) you cant get high ratio.
Best 7zip settings are :

7z
9 - Ultra
LZMA2
Dictionary 512mb
Word 256
Solid
As many threads as you can throw at it
Memory percent 80%
But you need a strong CPU and 64go ram ...

You're under the impression that they do anything other than regular compression. Some executables scale better than others, for several reasons. The settings posted by @trz303 compress the recent Ozone R2R release from 500mb to 188mb, like the original .7z provided by R2r themselves. Dropping the dictionary and word settings down to the default 64mb, plus default 16gb solid block, only increases the filesize by 1mb. That's because the Ozone executable scales really well with compression.

The folder that contains WinRAR is zipped, but guess what? I don't even have software to uncompress it. Looks like I'm stuck in an infinite loop of needing a file to unzip a file to unzip the file!

BTW WinRar is expanding it's income to apparel since not everyone buys a license.
They sell a $$$ bag and a jacket in coorperation with Tern.

Tested with an installer of 400MB:

LZMA: 280MB
LZMA2: 340MB

Differences:
LZMA only uses 2 threads of your CPU but much less memory.
LZMA2 uses all available threads but way more memory.
With my 32GB it only works when I close all other programs but in such case you always can reduce the numer of threads, then it uses less memory for compression but takes more time again.

Winrar is an indispensable tool, I've been using it forever, if you already have a licensed version all you have to do is download the latest version and install, it stays registered.

Who the hell really needs WinRAR. 7-Zip does a fine job, and on top of that I need no stupid keygen or serial. I think I have some WinRAR version somewhere, but really don't need it - waste of harddisk space. The rar-files I pull from Audioz or somewhere else are always well handleable by 7-Zip.

WinRar costs money, and yes it is relevant to the scene. Why? I don't need it. There isn't even a dark mode. 7z is perfect for repacking for home use.
