I also don't get it....actually i'm not sure, is due it to all of users at lest have one win rar , share, sent etc by using win rar? Then again the best programs and OP i have used for last 30 years were always free- meaning those who made them did it like that or in max they accept some donations.
$ have ruined net.

Well, for unzipping Rar's you could also go with 7zip, it's open source.

Yea, but 7zip is useless when you got RAR5 archives to extract.

7-Zip hasn't been updated in forever, extracts slower, split archives aren't as good, it doesn't support recovery records, doesn't support RAR5 and it looks worse. Most of the times the difference in compression of LZMA2 (7-Zip) is irrelevant particularly with non solid archives. The choice for me is clear: WinRAR. Hate 7-Zip, even hate to see the format used here. I wish people only posted RAR or RAR5.

I suggest Audioz make a Rule for Posters to use recovery record by compressing Archives,

I use WinRar too. But Winmount is my other tool when I want use the content of a RAR file without extracting it. Winmount can Mount compressed files to a Virtual Drive in seconds.
Where the music stops, "Audioz" surfing begins.

i open the rar file with total commander and copy out what i need, no need to extract everything. tc supports rar5, when you lnk winrar in the packers to it.
If you want to supply something, you can. PM is open for that.

Absolutely LOVE Total Commander. Best "commander" after Norton Commander. And with all the plugins is incredible.

Recovery archives need to be 5% of the total size and though that might not be a big deal with a preset pack it would be considerable uploading time with a large library. I use recovery archives whenever I release something but I can't force everyone to do the same especially not for the reason that you want to mount it with Virtual Drive. Some people have slow connections and it would make their life a living hell.

I agree, but one thing: 7-Zip is actually being updated all the time, just not the so called stable version. One can use this new beta 9.35 from 7-12-2014 without any problems. ;) Although yes - RAR is the best archiver out there.

You dont know about 7zip. It has been 5-6 months since RAR5 support in it. And it is updated many times in past few months. And I dont have any problem using it since RAR5 support. And its free. Looks nice and simple.

The joy of people complaining about things when they've got no plan about what they speak

You're completely right. RAR5 support for 7-Zip came with 15.06 beta, which means in June 2015. More than 3 years ago - just sayin'...

there are some archives that 7zip can not handle, most of them packaged with WinRar.
also 7zip seems to be unable to handle restoration information in archives.
other than that it's my go-to but I'm just saying that WinRar sometimes comes in handy too.

I agree, one of the apps you should pay for... :P Anyway, I remind you all that after the trial period, WinRAR still works perfectly, and only shows a small nag screen encouraging you to register (you just click on it at loading and that's all). So this case is similar to that of Cockos REAPER: you SHOULD register, but if you don't want to, you may use the program WITHOUT cracking it.

Conclusion: I'll get this KeyGenned version hehheheehehhe :P

some features are disabled in the trail version :p like use old splitting and also another feature, i think something with checking if the rar achive is valid. cant remember, it was mentioned somewhere, with simple cracking you dont get this away. well i would like to pay for it, but im always skint on money.

In both Windows and Linux I use the command line RAR. No need to register it. In Linux you also get a nice archiver shell for it [File Roller]. Shame there isn't one for Windows, except WinRAR itself, but I made a right click command for Windows to use it more easily. I use the same RAR settings all the time anyway.

Wow! Interesting little "fun fact" there, SineWave.

Where do you live? Close to San Diego, CA? I'm comin' over for an intermediate/advanced level command line workshop. I know some basic stuff like "ipconfig / release OR Renew OR flushdns", but I could definitely stand to up my CMD chopz.

I'll bring some private reserve indica, a couple of IPAs, and some nicely marbled ribeyes. If you're vegetarian/vegan, .....................I'll eat BOTH ribeyes.

This is the only really professional archiver out there. Features like "recovery record" can save the day. However, I use 7zip as my main archiver, and I only use the console version of RAR to archive the sample banks, as there's no better archiver for that. It does come in handy for unpacking sometimes, too, and it's the fastest archiver of them all. Yeah, SAiNT - "one of those tools", indeed, I agree. d= ;) Thank you so much and cheers!

WinRAR, 7-Zip and ArcThemAll!....Man I can't live without those! (the last one is great for compressing individual folders into separate archive files...albeit no beating WinRAR for Audio files)

ArcThemAll!....Man I can't live without those! (the last one is great for compressing individual folders into separate archive files

Hehehehe, useful feature. I remember loooooog ago, I did a BAT file (for command line) which exactly this with RAR.EXE; it took all folders in a given path (where the BAT was run from) and made as many RARs as folders using the foldername as RAR name. All on its own. I'd have to search in my ooold hard disks, nut I must have it somewhere... :)

I'm taking note about ArcThemAll, anyway wink

I use WinRAR so MUCH... even I use it to archive without compression and a password folders with large number archives in order to prevent my AV to waste time scanning

@AudioTiger: Yes, please have a look for the batch file! :) Would be definitely handy for Audio files. I was researching doing similar with 7-zip (best for 3d native file compression), but found ArcThemAll (just easier! haha)
