Thats because you need to have soft eLicenser on your pc, so you need to make one, after that you can install this content license.

Download this , install it, after that run Absolute 5 license installer.
You should have your license in eLC visible.

UPDATE: I have good news for you Buntymc and all that are in the same situation, with this command you can create a new fresh sel so you don't need anything else to make this release work!

When installing I get "Could not open or access Soft E-licenser"
I re-installed it, still nothing ...
So it does not work for me :(

I think you should perhaps try to run the keygen as admin? (right click on the keygen, then choose "Run as Administrator")

I read that this keygen in fact can't create a new *.sel file in this folder:
C:\ProgramData\Syncrosoft

Which can be a problem in some situations. If you really have nothing in this folder, you could try a thing, or two:

1. Go to: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/206632670-Soft-eLicenser-virtual-license-container-is-missing

Then download this file: elc-installation-helper.exe

And run it. It should generates a blank *.sel file in the folder I indicate above.

Then run the keygen... And voilà! You can now install Absolute 5!

Other solution:

1. in the last VR "Absolute" release, there is a *.sel file inside the .rar
Extract this *.sel file to the folder I mentioned above.

2. Open the elicencer control, then repair the licenses. don't block internet, and Let it completely finish its task. then you can block it from internet if you want.

3. Run the AiR keygen as admin. It doesn't need internet at all!

Thank you for your advice. "Soft-eLicenser-virtual-license-container-is-missing" also unusable, but I did find an old *sel file and using it, it worked.

Where did you find the old sel file? I did have one on my machine but it seems to have disappeared.

OK, found the .sel file in the most recent VR file. However, when I launch the e-Licenser control centre, I get a message that it's deactivated the Soft-elicenser. I

The keygen works fine but I can't launch any apps because I don't have a running soft-license.

Of course, that was the first thing I tried. Point 1 got me nowhere. Point two seemed more helpful after I'd tracked down the VR bundle with the .sel file because I could get the keygen to run and it does create a licence and the licence seems to be correct, but apps won't run as registered until I've run the e-licencer control app, and as soon as I run it, it disallows the soft e-licenser.

Although I didn't try the keygen as admin. I wonder if that would help? Because it seemed to run fine and it told me it was registered, I wasn't unduly worried about that.

I'll try a complete uninstall and fresh re-install tomorrow. I have to say, Earth33, I wasn't getting anywhere prior to reading your post, so your help is much appreciated,

I am facing the same problem. What I would probably need is an empty *sel file.
After several failed re-installs of e-licenser I have it running now, but there is no more soft e-licenser. My legit produchts are on USB dongle and run fine.
The elc installation helper is useless because it says win 7 is required, even though I am on win7!!
Perhaps installing some demo will help

The elc installation helper runs for me (also on Win 7) but it just repeatedly fails at any attempt to create a license. I think the servers must have me marked as a scoundrel somehow.

I can copy over a pirated .sel file from one of the older installations, but as soon as I run the e-license control software, it's immediately marked as a used license and is disqualified. Even if I'm not connected to the internet.

What I can tell you: This AiR keygen doesn't need internet, so if you don't wanna be blacklisted (especially with the VR licenser,, it seems that ST. have now a way to detect it) , just disconnect, or block the eLicenser control with firewall, only of course if you don't need to enter new licenses or anything new.

....even if you're not connected, @Buntymc? How is it possible?

I don't have a USB licenser, so the whole thing is dependent on a working soft-elicenser to run. So I can run the keygen fine and it'll register and show the licenses, but without a working soft -elicense (the .sel file, I believe), nothing runs.

Despite doing multiple clear-outs of the old software and e-licences, I just can't get a working soft-elicense. The pirated ones immediately show up as disallowed and the app that lets you download a new one fails whenever I run it.

I believe pescatore's correct. What we need are working, empty .sel files before it'll work for us. There's a log that the elc-installation-helper creates when you run it, and on my machine it shows that it's failing when syncrosoft.exe attempts to create the empty license.

I'm not in the secrets of the gods, but I can tell you with 100% certainty: this have nothing to do with RET/ R2R.

It's an independent, completely separated release, from a completely different team which have no relation with R2R.
