no seriously, some of those are my favorite composers - i know for a fact that they cannot use MOTU's DAW. Maybe in the old days, but not now. It doesn't even make any sense to me

Yes, why on earth would film composers use a DAW which excells at film scoring. Makes no sense to me.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_Performer

Some might have switched recently, but DP still gets heavily used by alot of composers.

DP is a great DAW for orchestral type of music, but in earlier version on windows there was a big problems with plugins etc... buffers, fonts (everything is small on standard 22" monitor). I wish they solve that problems.
If you watch some videos of using DP you can that imagine all the purpose :)
When I try DP for first time, I say "what the hell", but when you learn how to use it than everything get sense and you'll can imagine what's the point at the end.

Actually its a Very Powerful Daw, once you learn how to use it, espiaclly on a Mac, it would be like Cakewalk releasing Sonar for Mac, course there would be a lot of bugs, Don't under estimate.. Mac Owners as you already know.. Knowledge is Power or vise versa

I'm trying to use it. I'm still familiarizing with it. I saw tutorials and liked the functionality. I have done some works with film scoring and liked the dedicated features like score editor, find tempo, etc. I thought about using Cubase, but as there is no provision to break the protection of seven, decided to use a daw constantly updated. I hope I made the right choice.

tried it many times, every release from here. they all freeze/quit.
probably very powerful daw though.
there's no file browser where u can audition before pulling audio into ur project. big mistake there. gui looks fancy, overcomplicated.
gonna try this nevertheless

MOTU DP is one DAW like "I want but I can´t"...this soft needs more improvements and a new workflow...not bad at all, but under windows still many buggy and there are another software DAW´s than runs better than DP...still does´nt macht a point of a tue DAW...

Can't vouch for v8.x, but 7.24 on the Mac is amazing. The audio side is a bit wonky (this may have been fixed a bit in 8 ), but the MIDI side is the best on the market. I use it for MIDI composition and audio, and while I can execute a decent mix on it, you may want to consider pairing it up with ProTools -- DP's audio editing leaves a lot to be desired.

Certainly the first time that I may, perhaps, try to help such an illustrious musician : 'Jimi Hendrix' !!!

Here you have a 'Tutorial' that can certainly be of great interest for you (at least for the first Steps) :

performer-introduction-tutorial.html

It seems that all the 'Download' Links are dead... so try to find some still valid Links via 'Google' (or any other 'Web Search Engine').

P.S: This 'Tutorial' can also be very interesting for some Users that (still !) underestimate this Great DAW !!!

I actually know a guy that knew Jimi Hendrix really well and was the last person to see him alive. He also knew Alice Cooper, David Bowie, Kiss, Lou Reed and so many other greats because he used to do the pyrotechnics for a lot of famous bands. His house was always strewn with memorabilia like Jimi's guitar, photos and many other amazing pieces of music history. Amazing guy with a truly amazing story. I was even lucky to meet some famous legendary musicians through him. Let's just say some of them aren't with us anymore.

I've used Digital performer for 30 years.. & yes use it for the MAIN DAW.. all my singles where recorded in it in the 90s / 2000s Now i write music for TV & film.. & it has been years ahead for a long time.. some of the things we've been able to do in there it took years for people to cotton on too.. now days work flow changes, but there is still nothing better for larger arrangements, that mix orchestra with technology in a more musical way rather than loop based shenanigans.. the only draw back is its falling short on support for DAW control surface manufacturers as a default DAW option along with the ableton / pro tool / logic top / cubase ect.. its a shame.. it really is still the best out there in my opinion. I'm not downloading this, coz i actually pay for my copy but happy you guys are talking so highly of it :)

just to add, .. Apple originally went to MOTU to buy them out b4 the reincarnation of Logic.. MOTU & performer where the first music software for mac.. MOTU believed they would be compromised to much & preferred working as partners, so didn't take the deal.. So think of that next time your loading up logic.. it was infact Apples second choice :)
