Weiss Saracon DSD v1.61.35 WiN screenshot
AudioZ Exclusive | EXE| 8.78 MB
SARACON – a versatile multichannel file format and sampling frequency conversion tool of utmost sonic quality and unprecedented conversion speed. All standard sampling frequencies are supported, including DXD and DSD. The Super Audio Center recommends SARACON for DSD conversion. POW-R dithering is also included.

SARACON is now available for MacOS Catalina (10.15) and higher. And now supports .dsf files for the DSD conversion.

Saracon runs on Windows™ or macOS™/OSX™ platforms and comes in two variants: SARACON and SARACON-DSD. The latter obviously also supports DSD conversion in both directions, including DSD64 and DSD128 variants. SARACON is a batch processor working on source and destination files. It does not support streaming modes. Many standard input and output formats are supported. POW-R dithering is a standard feature as well.

Main Features

Sampling frequencies

The SARACON is an extremely versatile software tool for sampling frequency and format conversion. Supported sampling frequencies include all the standard digital audio sampling frequencies like 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192, 352.8, 384 kHz, DXD, DSD64 and finally DSD128.

Output

The output word-length can be set to 16, 20, 24 or 32 Bits fixed point, or to 32 or 64 Bits IEEE floating point. Plus DSD. The word-length reduction uses flat TPDF dithering as well as any of the three POW-R dithering algorithms.

File formats

In terms of file formats as input or output SARACON shines with a plethora of supported formats, including wav, aiff, au, bwf, sd2, caf, paf, mat, raw, dsf, dsdiff, FLAC, Ogg/Vorbis. The number of channels is unlimited in a PCM to PCM or DSD to PCM conversion, while it is limited to six in a PCM to DSD conversion.

Conversion algorithms

The conversion algorithms are based on our several decades long experience with sampling frequency converters. The user interface is tidy and a simple – as one would expect from a professional tool. A sine wave generator is built in for testing purposes.

DSD version

The DSD version of the SARACON sports some additional, DSD specific features like an extensive DSD conversion analysis with log files, selectable interpolation/decimation filter sets, flexible input to output channel routing, different modulators, each with its own options like gain, dithering etc.. Note: All DSD specific features are supported by the SARACON-DSD version only.

Thanks! I've been using 1.61.10 (from 2010) for years... do all my finals through this. Nice to get a (minor) update.

I compared it to Voxengo r8brain (PCM to PCM 48k-44.1k). Did both saves in 32-bit float, no dither used.
On listening test Voxengo has better sound definition, more clarity and better transient response.

Did you do a null test between the two files as listening test?

I like r8brain for SRC conversion and Saracon for bit reduction with their POW-R dither

My colleagues and I do a lot of blind tests. Saracon sound better. Really.

Saracon on src.infinitewave.ca shows some weird aliasing. It reflects not just once, but several times. Still in ultrasonic range, but short preringing and postringing of linear phase sharpest SRCs at 22k is better than less clarity and aliasing in high ranges...

When I translate this site, it says that "saracon" is less accurate than "r8brain" and the free "sox".

Here are essential tests combined.
They also clearly show r8brain is superior.

show? aren't we suppose to listen? How did generations of engineers manage without visual tests I wonder ... I guess that's why everything sounded considerably better, because they focused on the essential.

I like this SRC very much. (But I also like others.) Unfortunately, this SRC also works exclusively with fixed sample rates. So for special tasks I can still only use the sample rate converter from iZotope. (But this one is not bad either. :) )

OK. So let's take a close look at Saracon itself.
Saracon on plot
Since the graphs show the abberations of tested software results from the ideal plot, it is easy to draw conclusions apart from what ears might say.

All these Saracon releases are FAKE.
Saracon is Linear Phase SRC, these are Minimum Phase SRC.
Maybe it's a marketing strategy by Weiss, BUT they doesn't sound like the ORIGINAL/COMMERCIAL Saracon.

This explains why some people have different quality perception.
Try the legal release, not the facked-cracked.
