Thanks for the share. The latest OPUS compatible version of this library has 188 GB, because it includes new scripts, new sampled instruments, bug fixes and other new stuff. The OPUS version is 1.0.7, while what has been released here is the version 1.0.11 which according to the EW Installation Center is the latest legacy version compatible with the old Play engine, of course without the new content, tweaks and new sampled instruments.

i bet you wouldnt hear any difference between them if someone made a blindtest

Well, I beg to differ, you would clearly hear the difference because the Opus version adds 2 Trumpets and 2 Trombones patches, and tweaks the legato for all patches, regardless if we talk about Strings, Brass, or Woodwinds.

Plus - This is in the play engine not the OPUS engine,. In the play engine you cannot run the patch editors, or the pattern creators, or the MIDI editing the same way.... the word builder also does not work as well in the play engine, the play engine cannot load scripts, has issues with microphone combinations and the Opus version was designed to make the sounds pristine. The play engine is fine but if you have never used the OPUS engine.... then yes... you would not know the difference.

The OPUS engine also loads the diamond libraries WAY faster.

Fully agree, but tell this to the guy below, who says that Opus is just a "few megabytes" of an update...

People believe what they want to believe. Unless the person has actually owned and worked with something a lot, they cannot possibly be an authority on it. That's common sense but we cannot make anyone listen to what they do not want to hear :)

The newest (Opus) version is just a kind of update to prior versions. Even if you are using Composer Cloud you need to download the diamond version first and the upgrades to Opus are integrated into the existing lib.
The Composer Cloud installation center isn't a very intelligent App. It just downloads files and unpacks them into a standard directory. This implies that installing Opus versions can't be very complex.

Example for Solo Violin Opus Version:
"EW Hollywood Solo Violin" the directory name on the disk is "EW Hollywood Solo Violin Diamond" not "...Opus". So you can call Opus just an update to Diamond.

The directory structures for Diamond and Opus are the same. The files in the Sample and Instruments directory are identical by the byte.
Opus only has an additional directory called e.g. "Hollywood Solo Violin Opus Instruments" and some script files in the root directory of the lib. That's it -
The directory size for Solo Violins is 38.993 for the Composer Cloud Opus version and 38.911 GB for the R2R Diamond version.
Not really shocking what we need to download in a second step.
And even if we have to reload a few GB for the big libs, so what?

So all this is no reason for producing panic here!
So cool down an wait what's to come.

From the EastWest website:

"Hollywood Orchestra Opus Edition is the culmination of over a decade of recording and programming and is the industry standard for achieving professional-sounding orchestral soundtracks. And now it includes over 130 GBs in brand new recordings, reimagined original content, powerful new features housed in our revolutionary OPUS engine, and Hollywood Orchestrator, a must-have tool for composers who want to create a blockbuster soundtrack in seconds.

Brand new recordings include a new 18 violin string section for Hollywood Strings, new ensembles for Hollywood Brass and Hollywood Orchestral Woodwinds, plus new string, brass, and wind multi ensembles. "The new 18 violins are an alternate to the first 16 violins of the original library. They have a different sound," says producer Nick Phoenix, "the players are different. The vibrato is different. The legato is the best we have ever recorded. They work well with the existing collection or as a replacement for the original 1st violins. The new 2 tenor trombones have a completely different sound from the 3 trombones in the original collection. The new trombones are warm, full, and extremely precise. 2 trumpets were recorded again using two of the best players in the Hollywood film score scene. The legato is blazing at high velocities and sounds like a live performance.

The programming of the original content from Hollywood Orchestra has been updated to take advantage of the features included in the new Opus software engine, as well as the Hollywood Solo Instrument Series (now included in this expansion). Particular focus was placed on Hollywood Orchestral Woodwinds. After improving the original woodwinds, new ensembles were recorded, including 3 bassoons, 3 clarinets, and 3 flutes. "Once again, this was a huge success because of the quality of the players," says Phoenix, "Each woodwind ensemble works together on a regular basis and the tuning and timing are immaculate. These new recordings are unmatched in the virtual instruments world. The Opus Edition also includes new string, brass, and wind multi ensembles that have a unique fat sound that captures the tuning of a large orchestra playing together in a live setting."

So the Opus Orchestra is a totally revamped edition of the Hollywood Play legacy version, with new legatos, new instruments sampled, bug fixes, new arrangements, new scripting, 130 GB of new content, and other stuff.

And?
I don't think the 130 GB were really all NEW Samples. That's just advertising hype.
But even if its true. What the heck. Just reload 130GB.
Btw: The CC installation of Brass Opus is >200 GB. That implies they carry on at least 70GB of old stuff they reuse in the new version. 70 GB one won't have to DL again.

I have the composer Cloud an can not confirm there is 130 GB of new content.
Its not that easy to verify that it is really new content. Downloading with CC means every file gets the timestamp of the day you downloaded it not when the file was first generated.
So I'm interested how you veryfied that there are 130 GB of fresh samples.

But even if there is 130 GB of fresh samples it means there are at least 70 GB of old stuff in it. So it makes perfect sense to download the older Libs and then replace or add the newer content.

The 130Gb extra didn't exist on the Play version,
so obviously that's all the new Opus content for the Full Library,
consisting of samples, or whatever it may be..

However the important part is what you said earlier:
""Even if you are using Composer Cloud you need to download the diamond version first and the upgrades to Opus are integrated into the existing lib.
The Composer Cloud installation center isn't a very intelligent App. It just downloads files and unpacks them into a standard directory.
""

If you/anyone can Confirm this is the case,
then it's more possible that the Opus updates could be released..

And it makes this versions good to download,
because the Opus stuff could be released later as an add-on Update.

And that's basically it..

-Still, having the Old EWQLHO Diamond Play version available is Great,
and a very Welcome thing in its own, even if it's old.

We can try it, see how it sounds like, compare it to other stuff,
And that's Fantastic.

-However imo, with what you said, and seeing how R2R is working lately..
I think it's probably gonna be released sooner than later.

130 GB of fresh samples doesn't refer ONLY to the Brass, it refers to all the library.

You ask me how I know there are 130GB of fresh samples? Very easy, look in the samples folder of each of the components of the library, Strings, Brass, Woodwinds, go on the website, see what new instruments there are, go back to the samples folder and check for the subfolders with the samples of the new instruments.

For example, go to the EW Hollywood Strings Diamond - Hollywood Strings Samples - 18 Violins and you will see the new 18 violins has 33.2 GB and 80.064 files. So JUST the new 18 violins section has 33.2 GB.

These are the OPUS additions to the old Hollywood orchestra. Go to the samples folders and check the size of the new content:
- Hollywood Strings (new 18 Violins & Ensembles)
- Hollywood Brass (new 2 Trumpets and 2 Trombones patches)
- Hollywood Woodwinds (new 3 Bassoons, 3 Clarinets, 3 Flutes patches)

And you can do the same for woodwinds and brass. Is not rocket science.

well someone obviously has ears better than some... or a wish for us all to subscribe to the monthly EW revenue when most of us just carry on writing music,,, that is why we're all here? Not just typing in a monologue of missing bits that some don't really care about. I think it is important to remember that what we are given is for free,,, and unless it is REALLY broke,,, sheesh, can we just get on with our lives without continual bitching and enjoy

Ditto that and it also sounds better in opus - there are reasons as you well know, but if anyone is interested they can do what you and I probably did, i.e. read about it.
You can only lead a horse to water.....

You're right about that.
I think it results from the misunderstanding that Opus is something completely new and requires completely new samples. But that is not the case.
Even the Composer Cloud installer just downloads packed files an unpacks them into existing Libs. So it's just an upgrade of the libs.

It's either ppl with no patience who complain for no reason..

Or maybe even ppl who want to demoralize and dissuade others from getting this.
Whatever the reason may be..

Giving a simple yes to this question is misleading and I think misses the real point. You will still need to download the entire new library and install it over the old one. It won't be as simple as a second smaller download.

From the Hollywood Orchestra OPUS Edition FAQ:

Do I have to reinstall the whole Orchestra, or just download the Opus content?

If you already have the Hollywood Orchestra Gold or Diamond installed, you will only need to download the additional OPUS content which will be available as a download via the Installation Center.

Let's not jump to conclusions yet. If the official OPUS updates only require the additional OPUS content, it shouldn't be much different here.
