So, when I saw that image of the tutorial video about the GUI-wise, visually appearing sinus curved velocity setup for the notes that makes absolutely no f*cking sense, it smelled fishy, just like when many Kontakt libraries add strange and tempting effects for it to compensate the weakness of the initial sound.
And some of the demo songs also sounded thin and not convincing.
BUT after trying it out, especially this later version (6.7.0) that I think somehow seems to have better dynamic performance, well, it blew me away.
The responsiveness is unbeatable, no Kontakt library can come close. And, of course, the variety of sounds are amazing.
Some presets can still sound lacking dynamics when you play on your keyboard. Interestingly if you play the demo midi that comes with the app, it sounds ok.
There's a process that user can do to kind of calibrate his own keyboard, it's not that easy to do it right though.

The Pianoteq tutorial video audibly states that it is for version 5 when it starts, that is probably why it looks and sounds different. I guess Modartt doesn't want to bother updating their video and audio demos with ones of their newer versions.

The thing is, even in the latest version the user can feel the sound thin or synthetic. It all depends on how much time and effort the user can/wants to spend on fine-tuning (or better saying, fine-configuring) the software to match his/her taste, needs, ability.
You can realize the importance on this very quickly if you plug your midi keyboard and play a bit, then you just play the embedded midi demo song. It's very notable how well the demo song sounds and how thin and boring your own playing is (regardless of your skills).
You need to calibrate your keyboard. You need to tweak on many other parameters. I haven't tried changing mic position and setup yet. Perhaps it plays an important roll on the final result.
But first of all, you have to rethink the velocity curve for your playing technique.
In many presets I found the sound too bright, too metallic, so I had to soften it, lowering the upper range before the highest position.

If someone, after every possible tweaking method, still feel the instrument not sounding live, real, still can use a convolution reverb in the DAW on the track, especially those that have the feature to setup modulated parameters (esp. EQ). The likes of Reverberate, HOFA etc.
It can make the sound more life, more movements.

That's what physical modelling instruments are like. They are completely clean. You need to add your own reverb and delay to make them sound alive. But thats the beauty of it because they give you a RAW File to play with.

Some presets have built in compression. Not only as a sound effect but as modelling: it's the dynamic slider which controls the overall dynamic range of the sound. Values between 50-60 will give you a response closer to a real piano feeling especially if you use a top notch piano keyboard.

The preset manager in the 6.7.0 standalone looks weird to me (compared to the one from v6.6.0), like it has a graphical bug.
When using the vst plugins it looks normal.

But thanks again for that brilliant release!

Hi r4e
To have the same preset manager you should click WINDOWS --> PRESETS MANAGER
and you'll have exactly the same GUI.

Great pianos (probably the best) and great stuff, Dima, thanks! Hope I'll can buy all of them in the future (all my home studio is using legit, offered and free) - but around 800 bucks it's a bit expensive for a non-pro like me. ;)

I agree
800€ it's too much

I thought the same but I bought stuff little by little (standard then pro) when there were promotions. As a pianist I am absolutely happy with the investement honestly. Not sure I would just suggest it for a casual users though.

Having tested trial, for sure I agree they're great pianos, and I can believe (easily) you're happy about your investment! I'm not a pianist, but a keyboardist instead, not professional (assuming I stay a beginner, despite my 50+ years old ^^). In my arsenal, I'm using Keyzone Classic freeware plug-in (by Bitsonic) and be sure I love it - in particular the Yamaha Grand Piano, useful (for me) for training against Interstellar theme. ;)

Thanks for this! Will be a VST3 version included?
  Resident 1.03.2014 7 1091

VST3 is useless for instruments (IMHO) - but Organeq 1 (trial) having both VSTi and VST3i. Perhaps Modartt will consider VST3i in future release for Pianoteq.

At which stage?
I have it donwloaded and uncompressed with no alert from zonealarm.
But not installed yet

Windows Defender gave the alert after the app had been installed AND ran. I remember I opened it, started to play a bit and the alert appeared. It happened with every release during these days, suggesting different trojan names.
In addition, after the first install happened a freeze of the app. Since then it runs smooth.
I'm amazed how easily it runs on a cheap Chinese miniPC (Intel NUC imitation) with j5005 CPU and 8GB ram. With 256 samples it's about 5ms but it could play still with less, too
