After really good experiences with Win 7 x64,I am now having some strange behaviour, which could be the first incompatibility I discovered:

till today, every 32 bit app or plugin i ve tried out seemed to work stable under Windows 7, but today after a propper install of the hartmann neuron, it seemes that Windows 7 x64 doesnt like that 32 bit vsti so much.
It works, and play sounds, I can also switch the presets but the gui windows of the plugin doesnt build up, it stays grey.
So, at least I can use these wonderfull different, direct and phat sounding sounds but I cant modify these neuron sounds, cause I dont have any user interface here anymore.

I would say I am quite happy; as happy as I can get with a OS like this:
everything is running smoothly here except this one plugin - hope that this is the only one that doesnt perform right under Windows 7 x64.

Here are my questions:
Do you think it would be a good idea to share now and here all our experiences concerning the usability of old 32 bit plugins under windows 7 x64?

Have you experienced the same with neuron vst?
Have you expereienced any other problems with other plugins?

I must say that the neuron release never felt so smooth and propper but it allways worked sufficietntly, again I hope this is the one and last bad experience with Windows 7 x46

I solved similar problem on Vista disabling UAC:

How to disable UAC on Windows 7
Windows 7 makes it much easier to deal with UAC settings, and in fact you don’t have to completely disable UAC if you don’t want to. Just type UAC into the start menu or Control Panel search box.
You can simply drag the slider up or down, depending on how often you want to be alerted.
If you drag it all the way down to the bottom, you’ll have disabled it entirely.

Some plugs could ask you to repeat authorization procedure...

using win 7 x64 since the beta came out so its almost a year now ... no problems whatsoever

some older plugs simply don't work because they are too old but you have to be looking at plugins from year 2000 and you probably shouldn't be usin those at all .

other than that all works fine

sometimes the gui problems can be caused by the fact thaqt you don't have proper c++ libraries so you should install those ...

hi,

I'm still on XP for now, working great. Tried Vista once but had too much incompatibility. Now I'm hesitatant as everything is working exactly how I want it.

I have a simple question: What is the benefit of Win 7? Especially in relation to audio

Thanks

The only benefit you get is from Windows 7 64-bit version because it can utilise more than 4GB of memory. Going from XP 32-bit to W7 32-bit is pretty much pointless IMO. I still use XP for audio, too, but for my main OS I installed Debian Linux and I'm a happy camper now. One OS for audio and other for everything else. ;)

Generally no probs With Win7 x64 but there may be problems with x64 versions of multitrackers as they will not host x86 vst...e.g. Reaper x64....since most vst are x86...one ends up empty handed...i used to think x64 was faster but if you make a multitracker x64 and have tons of plugins at x64 then it brings you right back to where you were with x86...just the intensity has increased...i always used to think that x64 meant that x86 would be processed twice as fast thereby giving one power...i was wrong...this is why x64 appz don't particularly seem to run much faster than x86...cause the same shit is going on as was in x86...only twice
as fast...one can ultimately test this when rendering in 3d applications like cinema 4d...maybe my shit is x64 and i have two processors but guess what?...my shit doesn't render much faster than x86...whoever is thinking about switching to x64...don't be in such a hurry...you are just as better off with x86 duo

Win7 x64 rocks. jbridge rocks. i7 processor rocks.

Hacked/Cracked software...sometimes rocks ;) Did you try the demo version?

Here's something I found through a search:

"this is by far the most amazing softsynth out there... i got mine to work in windows7 using legacy USB support and installing the software in XP compatibility mode... unreal sounds"

Good luck!

as I know it don't need to be a problem to run x86 applications on windows 7 64bit ,because it's knows how to roll back and run this kind of applications, untill now I didn't confront with any kind of situation that requiered from me to disable the UAC

I switched to Windows 7 64 bit about 2 weeks ago and I love it, I must say the 8 GB Ram is a huge pre as well ;) But I havent had any problems with plugins to date, exept for Timeworks Compressor X and Equalizer X. Also I can't get the new Waldorf Largo & Rob Papen Subboombass to run, but I am not sure that is Windows' 7 fault. :) All the other plugins work fine!
