Windows 10 Privacy Guide screenshot
after another windows update i was searching for a way to disable gamedvr service and found this insanely useful, treasure-like article about manually disabling most of the crap that windows has. i hope you don't care about it, but for me it's just incessantly irritating.

Windows 10 has raised several concerns about privacy due to the fact that it has a lot of telemetry and online features. In response to these concerns, Microsoft released a document explaining exactly what data they collect, and now Windows 10 even has a Diagnostic Data Viewer. Most of it seems pretty legit stuff when telemetry is set to basic, but still, if you don't trust them, here's how to prevent Windows 10 from sending your data to Microsoft.
Last update: January 28, 2019

Important: This procedure cannot be reversed without reinstalling Windows. Do not follow this guide if:
You are not an experienced user
You need to use a Microsoft Account for any reason (outside of your web browser)
You need to download anything from the Windows Store (including distros for the Linux subsystem if you want to use it)
You need to add/remove user accounts to your PC (new accounts will not work properly)

You're doing this at your own risk, I am not responsible for any data loss or damage that may occur.

Let's start!

download from any file hoster with just one LinkSnappy account
download from more than 100 file hosters at once with LinkSnappy.

In my opinion it's an invitation to wreck your windows box. Format down and start again, wreck. Waste a week of your life, wreck. You'd be better off going through the purgatory of running Win 7 than doing all this madness.

if you think win10 is better than win7 for audio work you clearly don't know what you're doing.

I'm fully on board with jaja.
Any plugins/VSTs/programs, new or old runs just fine on Win7Ult. and without Win10's odd registry confusion with certain companies plugins (admittedly, partially the fault of the companies, but it doesn't happen with Win7,) the need to tell you that you can't place certain files (especially anything Program related,) where you want, as it's not "proper," ruining sessions by updating whenever it wants despite what settings I have it on...and don't get me started on Edge and all the other half-useable garbage that they force you to use (try using another PDF reader as a default, I dare you.) I could go on for days, but basically, as someone who doesn't like being told what to do, Win10 is a nightmare. It reminds me of Mac in the sense that its control over your OS seems to come with the intrinsic assumption that you are a 3rd-rate idiot who doesn't need to be playing with the 1's & 0's.
And, not to beat a dead horse, but why "fix" something if it isn't broken? And don't try and sell me on the "You'll have to upgrade at some point," garbage. Honestly, I could run a lot of what I have on the 2000ME OS.
To appease you Win10-heads out there, admittedly, it's not as bad as Vista or Win8...though the latter was originally meant to be a tablet OS that was ported over at the last minute, so trumping that is hardly a win.

Looks awesome, does it still work properly? The last update seems to be from 2018.

Looks like someone forked the (no longer maintained) code and updated it - claims to be also Win7 compatible:

https://github.com/Wohlstand/Destroy-Windows-10-Spying/releases

I can not tell you whether it works or not, use at your own risk - preferably on a VM first.

It might be a very good tool, no doubt, but whether you guys want to believe this or not, there is unfortunetely no way to turn off telemetry completely. There is a hidden OS in all newer Intel chips that works completely independent from whatever main OS you choose to install. Data being send even when your computer is turned off. This is REAL privacy invasion. Again, there is a hidden OS in all newer Intel chips that nobody has access to. I have yet to find an article where someone actually managed to get access to it. Nada, apparently impossible. You think Microsoft is stupid? They are 100 times smarter than we are. They give you the illusion that you can turn off telemetry. This hidden OS apparently has existed in all Intel chips for years, as far back as 2003, if not prior. It was discovered by accident. With these tools we can trim down the telemetry on the main OS only, but we will never be able to turn it off completely due to the hidden OS on Intel chips directly, nobody has access to. This hidden OS is not on your harddrive, cant wipe it out, its part of the actual Intel chips. Those are the facts, dont believe me, research it for yourself.

Yeah I heard about that, in that context not even Linux would help much. Is AMD any better? I heard they have something similar but can't remember the source.

Don't know if AMD is any better but personally i put more trust in AMD than Intel. I have a Ryzen 1600x offline maschine (with modified Win 7).

If you really believe what Microsoft is telling you or their "promises" than you're very, very naive.

They spy, track and collect incredible amount of your sensitive data.

I've recently upscaled my PC. New MB, new CPU and more RAM. I re-installed Win7 since everything with it work just fine BUT...
I soon was greeted with all sort of "incompatibility issues" between the new MB and Win7 which led to the DAW (Samnplitude) to go crazy, projects corrupted and plugins not installing, not working or not being seen by the system.
After 2 weeks of fighting I gave up and installed Win10.
I uninstalled most of the crap I don't need (some cannot be uninstalled) and set the PC up not to download and install updates (to avoid the OP being re-set to original).
Now everything works smoothly (so far).
What I am trying to say is that if you have or buy a latest MB with latest specs it is most likely set to be compatible with Win10 and not work properly with Win7 making these tweaks almost a necessity if you want a "clean as possible" PC.

I am Windows Internals specialist to the extreme. Step 1: Format what is known as boot drive: (System drive is the 100 MB partition that Windows typically boots from.) That's where Windows install is located. Step 2: Install Windows 7. Believe me.

Step 3: You will lose IE functionality but that is perfect.
open Task Scheduler from Administrative Tools,
navigate to Microsoft > Windows > Wininet.
Stop and disable the task.

REGEDIT search for this GUID:{3EB3C877-1F16-487C-9050-104DBCD66683}
Delete this GUID
You will have to change the ownership to your user to be able to delete this key.

Deny write permissions to all accounts:

C:\Users\XXXXXXX\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WebCache

Add to hosts:
0.0.0.0 a248.e.akamai.net
0.0.0.0 zb.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 zm-1.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 zc.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 zh.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 ns5-193.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 zg.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 ns2-193.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 ze.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 zf.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 zi.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 za.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 ns4-193.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 zd.akamaitech.net
0.0.0.0 ns3-193.akamaitech.net

Step 4: Delete Diagnostic Tracking Service. (After most Windows Updates, needs repeat.)
Then, check C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Diagnosis\ETLLogs\AutoLogger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener.etl

If the ADL is present you can disable it via these registry keys:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\WMI\Autologger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\WMI\Autologger\AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener\{DD17FA14-CDA6-7191-9B61-37A28F7A10DA}

'Modify the Enabled key to 0 (zero) to disable it for both.

Once you've done that, you can delete the AutoLogger-Diagtrack-Listener.etl

Lots and lots of other things to do, but my heart feels blessed (lol) to tell you of these things.

Or just don't connect Windows to the Internet at all. Instead run a Linux VM within Windows using VMWare or something, and allow that VM to use your Wi-fi or LAN.

100% truth. Win 10 has nothing over Win 7.

Win 7 until the day i leave this earth. Offline machine of course. For internet purposes we may not really have a choice since support for Win 7 ends i think in January 2020, if im not mistaken. So basically less than a year. Gonna switch to Win 8 then for another 2 years or however long till support for Win 8 stops, then we may not have a choice anymore. They are forcing us to switch to win 10.
