Windows 10 Privacy Guide screenshot
after another windows update i was searching for a way to disable gamedvr service and found this insanely useful, treasure-like article about manually disabling most of the crap that windows has. i hope you don't care about it, but for me it's just incessantly irritating.

Windows 10 has raised several concerns about privacy due to the fact that it has a lot of telemetry and online features. In response to these concerns, Microsoft released a document explaining exactly what data they collect, and now Windows 10 even has a Diagnostic Data Viewer. Most of it seems pretty legit stuff when telemetry is set to basic, but still, if you don't trust them, here's how to prevent Windows 10 from sending your data to Microsoft.
Last update: January 28, 2019

Important: This procedure cannot be reversed without reinstalling Windows. Do not follow this guide if:
You are not an experienced user
You need to use a Microsoft Account for any reason (outside of your web browser)
You need to download anything from the Windows Store (including distros for the Linux subsystem if you want to use it)
You need to add/remove user accounts to your PC (new accounts will not work properly)

You're doing this at your own risk, I am not responsible for any data loss or damage that may occur.

Let's start!

download from any file hoster with just one LinkSnappy account
download from more than 100 file hosters at once with LinkSnappy.

quote by jajaif you think win10 is better than win7 for audio work you clearly don't know what you're doing.

This proves you have no idea what you're talking about. Windows 10 has been getting praise in the audio world lately and will have even more once the May 2019 goes out to everyone. They have made massive enhancements aimed specifically at the audio recording world.

Thanks for sharing with us that you just hate change and actually have no idea what you're talking about. Stay with your ancient Windows 7. Some of these armchair expert Windows users on here are hysterical. Bunch of paranoid people.

Bunch of paranoid people.
You just demonstrated that you didn't read the information in this post....

And there is no need to call paranoid conscious people.

All these links to different expert saying the same thing are of course not true ... It's all a conspiracy theory ...

None so blind as those who don’t want to see.

Those who desire to give up freedom in order to gain security will have none.

You got it. :)
The capacitors store a charge and there would need to be battery backed ram which means the entire system would power on like a laptop battery. Pretty fricking grunty desktop battery.

A commonly known set of facts:
- Windows has always been the least secure Operating environment. If this was not true, a linux boot disk would not be able to reset any administrator password by opening the SAM file.
- For many years Windows was the only operating environment that could be easily hacked or impregnated with viruses.

There is not one version of windows that does not have holes.
But if a person wants to, they can plug those holes even telemetry.
Again I have to wonder if the reason some people are so unsettled is because they have more pirated software on their computer than legitimate.

Nonsense!
The reason Windows was targeted was simply due to the fact that it's the most common OS, and hackers play the numbers game! Target the most common OS and we may get through some of them.
If Linux was the biggest, it'd be the biggest victim, likewise Apple OS.
Security holes are found in all the OS's, the more complex/flexible an OS is, the more possibilities of mistakes in coding, therefore, security holes!

Windows Active Directory is a cut-down version of Novell Directory Serivces. The Inherited rights in AD still 25 years since NDS was released still shows lower tier files where NDS did not. Anyone in high level Server O/S technology has known this for two decades. Microsoft knows it. They cannot copy it .Not even remotely nonsense and if you were around and watched it since NT version 2.5 you'd know the HAL they use is a reworked version of VMS which no longer exists and it was largely responsible for the Blue screens in the earlier days. Even today most of the Blue screens are due to the HAL conflicting with a driver or interrupt. It has had holes for decades. Look up the history of DOS before you spout nonsense which shows you know very little.

Linux Squid is still the largest used proxy server in the world even with corporates having Windows internal servers because the windows proxy is easily hacked so it shows me how little you truly know about Windows and its history.
Microsoft has always been evolutionary and never revolutionary. They copy what has already existed and improve on it.
Look up Macintosh, Amiga and Atari. Windows was way behind all of them. You are seeing today what those company's pioneered.

Win 7 through to Win 10 is Windows NT with a different name. Look in the registry. Using NTFS not FAT for obvious reasons in advancement of technology, but it was not always that way. Same system which still has some of the ancient holes. The only part you are correct in is bad programming.

You seen Apple releasing more security patches recently, since they became more popular, hackers are targeting Apple OS!

Again, hackers will always target the one with the most users, considering Windows was on over 90% of computers for a long time, it made sense for them. If Apple OS was on 90% of computers, Apple would have patch Tuesday or similar just like Microsoft!

Don't assume for one second that the others are more secure, purely because the hackers have been looking for exploits on Windows for years and ignoring the others, therefore you automatically assume that Windows is less secure!

Android is also based on Unix, but they've had their fair share of problems!

Its true a lot of ISP kit/routing/proxy is done on Unix because they do it well, and simple, Windows OS (server etc) are very flexible with the features, an overkill, not forgetting the licencing costs which is why many kept using Linux/Unix servers wherever they could to save money!! But guess what, they also needed to be patched regularly.

I recall buying a system for work, the WIndows version of the server with that particular system came to about 3 times the price of a system with SunOS!

What are the main types of data that we should be concerned with Win 10 telemetry ?

There are several but the simplest solution is locking down your outbound traffic.
The moment anyone puts their name, telephone or bank details anywhere online even with SSL, there is technically a risk and in one way or another, your info is out there. This goes for social media. Digital footprints can be traced if someone wants them badly enough.
Main thing is get enough knowledge on how to block anything you do not want to go out.
There are plenty of non specific O/S articles on how to block outbound traffic to suit yourself.

There are lots of ways to lock down outbound traffic. Relying on a software firewall only has never been the best way.
