Second, and probably more important, I would hope intolerance related to sexual preferences/race/nationality etc would NOT be endured on this site. I don't care if you like sheep. If it's minors, or rape, .... another issue altogether. But still that is not what these forums are for discussing.

Third: Guitarmania..., if your thoughts on OSX are what they are, why do you keep popping up in Mac threads? Are you closeted osx fan or something? If you feel how you do, which you for some reason insist on commenting on, I'm sure there are more then enough corners of the internet where you can express your myopic vitriol, bigotry, and prejudicial dogmatism.

I abhor OS X and Apple for many many valid reasons but yet I question the necessity of making a comment such as this to anyone. It's something that can easily be avoided or at the very least made into a constructive criticism of the platform (if that is even necessary) rather than something that will likely start a battle. You posted it publicly so you can't expect that at least some members won't get annoyed, it's practically a surety. People that bash on PCs every opportunity are acting just as inappropriately. Nothing more annoying than opening a thread to get some insight or technical support only to see animosity like this against the target platform.

Sisyphus might have less time with us than you but he's done a hell of a lot for this community and even more than that he cares and has a deep respect for teams and members here with whom he's built genuine friendships. Members like Zeus who I'm sure appreciated that there was such a show of solidarity and support for him when he got hit by a car. I have a lot of respect for the guy and would appreciate you having some as well. He's pissed for a totally valid reason just like you would be if some guy started talking shit about PCs out of left field so what should really surprise you is not that he responded to an inappropriate comment that you made to someone else but that you made an abrasive comment that could easily have been avoided. I'd like AudioZ to be both of your homes but in order for that to happen you need to realize that your disposition will not bring anything positive and is completely unnecessary.

Before I was even a moderator on AudioSex, I wrote up a guide to a better forum experience after having analyzed the recurring problems that we had. The irony is that the guidelines were self-explanatory but yet the issues they pertained to still somehow managed to be a constant cause of friction and would even go so far as to derail us from the reason we all show up every day: our love of music. Here's a direct quote:

And I didn't mean to jump down your throat Guitarmania..., I just know that copylefter wanted this to be a clean thread and one detailed about the issues he defined. Jumping on the ole' os wars is tired, bringing intolerant terms to the table, etc. I don't think you are a bigot in your heart or anything as far as I know, ... It just seems you pop up on threads a lot with that kind of statement which really is not "proactive".
I think Catalyst and SAiNT are trying their damned hardest to both provide material and sanctuary for musicians/producers etc., and I like a forum to discuss different applications, uses, problems, help other people solve problems, have them help ME solve my problems etc. I know I have gotten more from here then I have given back,....absolutely. But the categorical imperative to me dictates, well, let's just clean it up a bit.. help others, give a leg up, get a leg up, and let's keep it positive. I think Catalysts points about a "better forum experience" are dead on. I didn't try and raise a witch hunt, and you and tele can pm all you want about your mutual hatred for osx or homosexuality, that's your prerogative ... but I do know that certain things said on open threads can appear abhorrent, even if that is not your core belief.
My bad to the beloved CL for derailing thread with my bs moral platitudes. It's obvious this is a huge release, and one that will be accompanied by tons of confusion by newcomers and those inexperienced with how this all works. CL laid out the ground rules, and i know he doesn't have time to deal with bs outside of what he simply said he was providing. Certainly not bloviating over relative merits of operating systems or sexual choices with terms used in what can easily be read in kind of an offensive manner.


This place which I LOVE, and have developed meaningful friendships with members, allows us to sometimes obviously type too much...not a bad thing, as we all enjoy conversation.... but I think we just have to maintain a modicum of respect for all others, be respectful of the wishes of the moderators (who give us a lot of rope obviously !:))... and just be cool. We are all trying to make music and if we all probably met, we would be a pretty big and great nerd fest in this particular niche, and I don't think there would be any "tough" guy bs... all cool man, I know I speak out of turn, and honestly, it's just because I am appreciative of the home we have been given here, the friends I have made, the stuff I have learned, the satisfaction of helping others, and the sanctuary provided by Catalyst and SAiNT, and I want it to continue to exist and thrive, and will fight for that. Seriously, have a great day man, no worries. Onwards and upwards.

Guitarmaniac by making such a statement you're detracting from the positive directions this thread could go such as gratitude, insight, technical support, etc. and replacing them with unnecessary friction. Do we really not have enough of this in our daily lives? I love music and I appreciate the time and efforts of others so I'd like to talk more on that rather than all the things I despise which will no doubt be plentiful during the rest of my day. If you would like to have a conversation about which platforms are the embodiment of your ideal operating environment then by all means open a thread on AudioSex and have a blast. However here we sign on to enjoy the best in free software and a friendly and helpful community so why such animosity over minutiae? The problem is that people have become complacent in their own misery, a tendency that I am forced to bump into over and over again. Believe me that it's not smiles and sunshine when on top of all the regular daily bs that a person has to deal with they get to come in and clean up yours. If you consider AudioZ your home then have respect for your neighbors and those that go to great lengths to keep you outfitted in the latest and greatest even so far as to risk their own freedom. At the very least they deserve to have their thread free of this kind of pollution and comments from members who can't be bothered to read. We really owe them that not to mention the community. Personally I feel like I owe them a lot more.

Also I make it no secret that the leniency that is extended here is all due to SAiNT and I completely disagree with that approach, a point that I have argued, and will continue to argue, until a day when it's no longer my problem. It simply doesn't work and even if I didn't already know this...I've gotten a chance to revisit it's inherent defects in excruciating detail. In my opinion It is not conducive to a positive community experience and I invite all those that take issue with it to let him know how you feel because there are a lot of you that write in about how this detracts from the kind of environment that you prefer to frequent. I'm not specifically referring to this situation because there have been some encounters that make this a walk in the park but it's meant more as a general statement. Luckily my solution affects everyone equally. Basically I'd like to tackle the issue from another angle and that angle is dead simple: you define your own experience here. It might be a stricter approach depending on a number of factors but it's nothing if not fair and all in your hands. From day one sisyphus has been respectful, grateful, helpful and more and so when it comes to coupons, internals or immediate access to technical support, he's at the top of my list. He's given his best and so he deserves the best and that's why I will do everything in my power to make sure that he gets it. Also I know I can trust him to be discreet with what he's given, a fact that I also greatly appreciate and is sadly lacking so instead of sharing with the forums I have to cater to a smaller audience.
