NICNT Generator v1.1 macOS [FREE] screenshot
by strejda603 | 24.11.2020 | 1.6 MB
NICNT Generator is a very useful application for creating .nicnt (for Kontakt 5) and .xml (for Kontakt 6) files.

Features:
* Checks already existing SNPID codes in Service Center and warns you, if you choose one of those by accident
* Can create .xml file and puts it into Service Center folder (You still need to use Kontakt 5.6.0 to add the library to Kontakt 6, so you must create .nicnt with SAME values, and then add it to your library and add the library manually to Kontakt 5.6.0!)

This is a little confusing -- why would you need to generate .xml files? The act of adding a library in v5.6x automatically generates an .xml for Kontakt 6; that's the whole point!

Depending on your cracked version, the XML generated doesnt always contain the library PNID

could you tell us an example ? this is very interesting .... i have seen people talking about it here but never quite understood what they refer to

I'm trying to remember, but I haven't had any issues with .xml generation since maybe 6.0.4, which coincided with me upgrading from Sierra to Mojave. And even then, Kontakt 5 was just putting .tmp files on my desktop, which I could easily change the suffix to ".xml" and drop into my Service Center folder. It stopped doing that pretty early on and went back to normal -- maybe an upgrade to Service Center?

Because when I have added k'ed library (with my custom nicnt) to Kontakt 5.6.0, it was added without any problems, but when I opened Kontakt 6, no library was shown (and it was also "deleted" from Kontakt 5.6.0, when I reopen it)... After some checking I've found out, that when I added that library to Kontakt 5.6.0, no xml was added/generated to Service Center folder.. So after adding xml to that folder (same values as in nicnt file), then library was finally shown in Kontakt 6...

That's why..

No such thing. Only k'd Kontakt.

And you're probably on Mojave, with the .tmp file on desktop situation, or permissions on Service Center folder problem.

I think you and I have discussed this a few times, but I'm on Mojave, and while I had the .tmp issue shortly after upgrading from Sierra (something you yourself helped me figure out!), it actually hasn't been an issue for quite some time. Of course, I also use a very old Windoze app on Wine that used to to be available on this site, KLE, and have never had an issue with SNPIDs or .nicnts. It could be that NI fixed Kontakt or Service Center legitimately or that k'd updates to Kontakt fixed it (it was quite a few versions ago), but I haven't had any issues in quite some time, aside from a couple of functionality problems, which is a whole other issue.

Some Native Access update changed the Service Centre folder permission, it was my be last 3rd or 4th update.

usually when you try to add any 3rd party library or your new .nicnt, say with Kontakt 5.60 or 5.6.6 then sc3.temp is pushed to your Desktop.

sc3.temp is related to NI > Service Center folder hence 'sc'.
If you look inside any .xml file it'll have the same content as sc3.temp of your latest addition to kontakt.

it's just that you as a user don't have the rights\permission to add the newly made .xml to Service Center Folder.

On a mac all you have to do is change Service Center folder permissions and add yourself as read and write owner.

on my mac i changed it mac HD>Library>Application Support>Native Instruments>service center

Then sc3.temp is never created on desktop

i Use Abyss Kontakted paid version , super easy to drag n drop artwork labels.
i use SNPIDer ver 3.1 to remove duplicates once in a while.

hope it helps.
Thanks

No, I'd figured that out a while ago -- just change ".tmp" to ".xml" and drop the file in the Service Center folder. As I stated above, that behavior stopped after about a month and I was able to add libraries normally again, so I'm not sure if Service Center got an update that fixed it, if Mojave had been updated and fixed it, or if it had something to do with Kontakt 6. Whatever it was, everything just suddenly went back to normal.

I'm on Big Sur... And there is no sc3.temp file for me generated on my desktop, when adding library to Kontakt 5.6.0..

I meant "if incase you get sc3.temp file on the desktop" only then the Service Center permission needs to be fixed :)

BTW Strejda , your NCNT Generator is amazing , because it detects the already assigned SNPID's which is fantastic :) thanks for this , i Use Abyss Kontacted and that doesn't do it.

Also i checked that the .xml is generated in User > preferences folder

I really like the design , would it be possible for NICNT generator to automatically give snpid ???
Thanks

Thank you!

I know, but there is no sc3.temp file on my Desktop... And even if it would be there, I'm too lazy to rewriting it to xml and copy it to Service Center folder :D

Sure, that's a good idea.. I just need to make it check, if that random SNPID doesn't already exist... But really good idea for future release

Hi Strejda ,

In the New Kontakt 6.5.0 version , i have noticed that kontakt is only reading
SNPID in .nicnt or .xml where snpid's are 4 hex characters ,
But in NICNT generator it throws a warning if i enter say 'D666'
it says SNPID can be 3 hex characters only!
if you could alter that then your app will create non repeating snpid's (the feature i love the most)
Do you think it's possible.
Thanks

Iggy,
You should not feel it confusing, as you know quite well how it works and you should know that there are still many people not understanding this process.
I really appreciate @Strejda603's work because there was only a manual solution for creating .nicnt file (and from it to create the .xml if necessary).
And yes, in some cases, especially since Kontakt 6.x.x this shit is happening, Service Center not having permission by Kontakt...)
Why is it a huge problem that someone created an app that helps in more than one scenario?

And still, there are people not understanding the process, look at here among the comments.
This is annoying but we have to help explaining it.
This app is really useful, it's not the app's fault that we still have to explain about SNPID.

The description is not very obvious. if someone can do a better job explaining how this app works, please write it in a comment.

sorry I can't find the SNPID number ?

Open the nicnt file with a text editor
  Resident 31.01.2017 598

First, go to bobdule's comment in this thread on Audiosex and open the trailer and check in the list if that library is there and has a given SNPID code.
If it isn't in that list, you can choose a code (preferably a letter between a-f and two numbers) that is not given for any other library in that list.

This app just gives you the convenience to create the .nicnt file, not solving all of your life issues.

So are you saying with this I will be able to load in kontakt files like I can with native instruments stuff? ie not have to go to the files tab to open them?
  Resident 31.01.2017 598
+179
yes, you can transform any Kontakt instrument that hasn't been officially registered by its developer as a Kontakt library.
But if you just want it because of the inconvenience of looking for the .nki/.nkm files on the proper location each time you want to load an instrument, you can rather use Quick-load feature in Kontakt. It can be easier to see the instruments and libraries in a better structural view.

This app is more about solving problems when a library requires to be added (registered) but it didn't come with its proper .nicnt file or there is some issue with that Kontakt 6 version.

how can I find the SNPID number when there's no XML or NICNT file???
  Member 18.01.2014 3 28

You can create your own SNPID (any 3 hex characters), or here is a list (in the spoiler)

Add any .png (ideal size is 906x98px) to root of your library and rename it to wallpaper.png
