BLENDEQ is the latest addition to Analog Obsession collection. It's "Dual-Circuit" analog modeling equalizer with "Blendable" bands.

There are two different equalizers with matched frequencies. "A" is famous "American" Equalizer and "N" is famous "Non-American" Equalizer. Frequency points are based on "N" model.

You can simply blend two different (parallel) equalizers "section by section". Even, line amps!

"N" has really smooth character with line amp and equalizer. You can get smoother transients and more blended sound with "N" line amp.

And "A" has punchy transients and more smack!

It's really easy to use and fun equalizer! For example, you can add punchy low end with "A" and silky highs with "N". And more possibilities!

FEATURES

- 4 Band Dual-Circuit Equalizer with Pre-Filters

- Each band has its own "BLEND" knob to mix two paralel equalizers.

- Line Amp ("IN" knob) will boost and blend amps, at the same time. All the way left is "N" line amp with +24dB. And all the way right is "A" line amp with +24dB.

- Filters (HPF & LPF) are placed before line amps to feed amps "usable" frequency range according to your choice. This will help line amps to process only "needed" frequency range.

- ANALOG OBSESSION (Label) will engage 4x Oversampling

- BLENDEQ (Label) will link all "BLEND" knobs to Low Band's BLEND knob. So, you can easily blend each band with one knob. This will help you to match all BLEND knobs if you want to use only "N" or "A" line amp.

Lovely! He really nailed the gain/Q interaction (or proportional Q) architecture of the API EQs.

If you boost/cut just 1-2dB the API/American mode will have the widest Q, but when you boost/cut a lot (6-18dB) the Q will become narrower and narrower, so at max boost cut the API will have the narrowest Q. Neve EQs have a constant Q architecture so the Q doesn't change when you boost/cut more.

He missed the opportunity to have different kinds of saturation for the two modes, but that's just me being nitpicky. The saturation sounds great, however. Combined with the great autogain feature he has in every plug-in it works really well as a saturation plug-in even if you don't want to use any of the bands!

Tried it out and I have to say, I like the concept. It's something unique that other developers haven't really done, at least not in this context.

It also sounds pretty good to my ears and the saturation is in fact different depending on which way you turn the input gain.
The harmonics might appear somewhat similar in PluginDoctor but the wave is being shaped in a different way (N-type: (soft)clipped, A-type: somewhat triangular waveshaping) that gives the material a different flavor.

You are correct!

I didn't notice that the Input knob has "N" all the way to the left and "A" all the way to the right. I thought it was a regular input knob that went from -24dB to +24dB and that the saturation depended on how you had the blend knob for the bands set!

Thanks for pointing that out, I would probably never have noticed it. Should have read the description better.
