Some very cool plugins with nice mojo here.

with nice GUIs you mean ... I distrust any plugin maker who's spending so much time on photo-realistic GUIs instead of focusing on sound

GUIS are always a nice bonus, but one should always evaluate with his ears.

Your statements makes no sense. There have been dozens of plugin companies focusing on the GUI as well, unless you like them drawn by 2 year olds.

I dont even know what the f you want with your statement, back to partying like its 1999?

dude, chill out with the F word. though behind a keyboard, big surprise.

what? did I hurt your feelings, shattered your dreams that made you believe you own real hardware when you bring up these cheap ass plug on your screen while wanking out in your mother's basement. grow up!

Being wary of a company that has nice GUIs is one thing, but you're doing yourself a disservice if you're avoiding them. I agree sound should come first, but considering it's nearly two decades into this century, we have robotic vacuums (though, kinda crappy,) and a disc in everyone's living room that answers our questions on demand, I fairly certain that we're tech-savvy enough to create solid plugins that do their job *and sound good.

Well, this isn't anything compared to the mess Arturia makes. AO plugs look decent without being too heavy imo, after all it doesn't matter if the knob strip .png is made through 3d render or photoshop, it's still a .png file. Stuff changes with plugins like Arturia's where they make one single strip for each knob, because "muh photorealism", and in return a laggy GUI can make the use of the plugin detrimental. But again, it's not really the case here.
Besides, it's not really much of a big deal to render these 3d GUIs anyway, the "flat" ones can sometimes be much more of a hassle to make.

I agree with the point you’re trying to make even though I don’t feel neither of you expressed your opinions correctly.
Skeuomorphic GUIs are so 00s that even Apple (the gods of skeuomorphism) ditched this design method for good.
For audio plug-ins, I really think it affects how we feel the sound. Not sure if there’s any academic research on this but It’s no secret that our eyes can deceive our minds and how it’s processing what comes through the ears.

Take Waves for example. They are obsessed with skeuomorphism so much that they haven’t innovated anything in the past 15 years. They just keep reusing the same algorithms to make an endorsed product with CLA or Abbey Roads with photorealistic tape animation or SSL console look.
Then came Slate Digital. I don’t have anything against Slate but load them GUI-less in Reaper and you realize most of it was hype, marketing psychology and skeuomorphic effects.

Now take iZotope, Fabfilter or ToneBoosters and see how far they’ve come by staying away from outdated designs.

I see that a lot of innovation is happening in iOS music apps and audio playgrounds like Max MSP or Reaktor because most of them are shipped with either a clean modern look free of analog imitation or a GUI that is so shitty you don’t even wanna focus on it and appreciate those unrealistic knobs.

So I loaded Sweet Drums on a buss and closed the GUI. I heard some things but it wasn’t anything that I couldn’t achieve with my current arsenal of plug-ins.
Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

Yea, you've liked this dev from day one. Back then they were a bit buggy if I remember correctly, if not I stand corrected. I'll check out this newest iteration and see what can be heard.

Yeah, I've had some issues and ended up uninstalling them (unlike some, I try and weed out plugins that don't actually get used; thank god--or, SAiNT, more appropriatly--for Try Before You Buy,") I wouldn't mind trying them again if/when the bugs are fixed, so I might give these a go when I have time to test-run some plugins.
P.S. - The Zappa quote that you have may be more appropriate with each passing year. I think he saw music in a much larger sense then nearly anyone, then or now.

@SLS

Yea, some were buggy, problems with meters not reacting or correctly showing GR. I also remember Distox almost blowing up my speakers, but other than that some are imo very good.

This dev is well known for not foxing bugs. Do a little research and you will find all the problems buyers faced.

Much better alternatives are Black Rooster Audio, Fuse Audio Labs and DMG TrackComp which are well known in community and uses the same technology as Analog Obsession.

Yeah, Ankit, I heard about that, but they seem to be improving, if slowly, and not everyone can throw together a plugin at all; putting them out for free until they get sorted out wouldn't be an awful idea, having people give feedback, and all. As for Black Rooster, Fuse, and DMG, easily my top 3 Go-To's. Haha, even Black Rooster's free plugins are better than many paid plugins--Canary and Cypress are nice, but I can't live without their VHL-3C.

I like the broken vu meters. Thank you so much Talula.
Come here just to try the software and buy it afterwards.
If I don't like the software I will just DELETE it.

Maybe they *are* focused on sound, but are willing to invest in making a better product by hiring a good graphic designer to do that part of it. No need to be *distrustful* when it might just mean it's been made by competent skilled people who want to make something cool.

(Note, not affiiliated with the company, and neither have I tried any of these plugins so have no idea whether they are any good or not. But I don't see why something looking good automatically means the code/DSP must be crap...)

this is not about making something cool it's not the GAP. should be professional audio tools - these are unreliable, a pain to set up. no one would use them professionally. sure if you're into comparing plugs all day, checking aliasing in Plugin Dr. and all that they are cool but if you have to do a job reliably and quickly these don't qualify - that was my point. and with maybe 1-2 exceptions and even those just because their are big budget (UAD, Slate) the companies that focus on GUIs too much are a bit ... well, I made my point. I was active when L2 came out so no, I'm not 15 ... I saw pretty much how plugs evolved. nowadays some companies focus too much on GUIs because they know that image sells. peace!

Thanks for the share!

This developer has come a long way from buggy plugins to ones that seem to compare to much more expensive & supposedly better designed ones.

Have been trying the previous releases (retail/free) with sessions from Telefunken with very good results. Getting live session tracks to sound cohesive is not an easy task. Especially when processing smears the audio. Not the case with Analog Obsession as of late.

No crashes & all functions work. Looking forward to trying the latest crop!

I've used these plugins for some time. They are very impressive sonically. Some of them are subtle while others are very responsive. They sound as good as some of the top brands out there, and in some cases better. Their emulations are spot on. I have yet to encounter any bugs in these plugins, regardless of how inexpensive they are. Do trust your ears first. But having a nice GUI is great too.
