The Samplab Plugin only has a fraction of the functionality that the Desktop app provides. Currently, the Desktop app provides the following additional features:
Premium audio warping
Key detection
Automatically adjusting the tempo and key of samples to each other
Making notes longer
Changing the volume of notes
Adding an offset to notes
Many more to come...

The VST/AU plugin standard is quite restrictive and doesn't allow us to implement many of the features that we want to implement. That's also why the Desktop App can do a lot more. We're gonna continue improving the plugin, but as time goes on, the gap between the plugin and Desktop functionality will only get wider.

An Internet connection is only required to load new audio files into Samplab. Once the audio file is loaded, you can use and manipulate it indefinitely without being connected to the Internet.

This seems to work better than the plugin version.

Yes, we transfer all files securely through HTTPS. The audio files are transformed on a server hosted by Amazon Web Services and are immediately deleted once the result is sent back.

When you say "my samples", why would you need to Melodyne them up with this thing if you already created the source material ? You could replay it.
And obviously any bought samples you have you only have a license for, you don't own; so it wouldn't matter what this dev did with them anyway.
Yet it is totally safe.
Bit pointless to mention "online" in the comments seeing as I already said it in the main post.

I appreciate the post, but why would an internet connection be required just to load samples? Just means this will stop working once the dev says so (or once their servers go offline). There's just too many better options available.

Maybe for key detection like MixedInKey. AFIAK no samples are uploaded just a hash or fingerprint which is used for analysis.

I agree with what others say.
The fact that it needs to be connected, hinders all your work.
The other day I put on a simple 5 second saxophone track. and it took several minutes to convert it to midi. a total waste of time
I think these cloud-based things just slow down the workflow.
If you only look at one side of the coin, you'll never truly know if it's a coin.

OK, So its shows the midi but if you cant export the midi from the sample its just a waste.

But you can. Click on the audio, the MIDI panel opens.
You aren't using it properly.
