Spectrasonics - Keyscape Library for Omnisphere 2 - TZ GROUP screenshot
Omnisphere 2 Library | 72 GB
KEYSCAPE™ is an extraordinary new virtual instrument featuring the largest selection of collector keyboards in the world. From “holy grail” pianos to stunning keyboards you didn’t even know existed, this is a keyboardist’s dream come true.

Ten years in the making, each of these sought-after keyboards was carefully restored and then deeply multisampled by the renowned Spectrasonics Sound Development Team. These compelling and highly expressive sounds will inspire you to PLAY!

The process began with going to the ends of the earth to find and restore each one of these rare and incredibly special instruments with the top technicians and expert craftsmen from each discipline. We even went as far as spending years redoing these instruments from scratch again and again until they were totally “right.” This incredible attention to detail and meticulous care given to each instrument allowed us to develop these sounds to a whole new level of authentic tone.

While it’s every performing keyboardist’s dream to have the very best instruments instantly available anywhere, Keyscape is equally useful in the studio for producers and composers. Since these instruments can be easily transformed into amazing “unreal” sounds with the powerful STEAM Engine® under the hood, Keyscape easily turns these coveted instruments from History into innovative new sounds of the Future.

Custom Controls
The Custom Controls presented for each Patch allow you to go far beyond the original sound. The intuitive interface includes useful performance controls and high-quality creative effects processing specially crafted for each Patch. Hundreds of included Patches showcase the remarkable versatility and ability to dramatically customize these iconic sounds to your music.

Authentic Expression
With many of these collector instruments, it’s really the imperfections that make them so interesting. Instead of cleaning up all the quirks and noises they make, we made sure to closely capture them since they are a big part of their vibe. In addition to that, our software team closely modeled the authentic behavior and mojo of vintage amplifiers, classic effects units, and unique subtleties like mechanical noises, pedal noises, and release overtones to bring these sounds to a whole new level of authenticity and dynamic expression.

Hybrid "Duo" Sounds
Along with the hundreds of patches based on the 36 instrument models, Keyscape includes special hybrid "Duo" sounds which combine two of the instruments to create something entirely new. The unique timbre of these Duo patches make them some of the most creative and inspiring sounds in Keyscape!

Omnisphere Integration
As a bonus for Omnisphere 2 users, Keyscape also integrates fully as a satellite instrument within the Omnisphere® interface. Keyscape will simply appear as a library inside Omnisphere’s browser for users of both plugins. This capability allows Omnisphere 2 users to harness additional functionality like Live Mode, Stack Mode, Multitimbrality, endless FX routings and the full synthesis power of the STEAM Engine® to explore endless new sonic possibilities and combinations.

Technical Specifications
• Huge library with over 500 “Best-in-class” sounds, 36 Instrument Models and Hybrid “Duo” Patches
• Deeply Multisampled sounds with up to 32-way velocity switching, Round Robins, etc.
• Mechanical Noise, Pedal Noise and Release Noise behavior modeling

<span class='QuoteBy'>quote by PedjaK</span>In my disk, size of this file is exactly 13.91 Gb

I think this is the heart of the story right here. For the same file, you see 13.91gb and I see 14.93gb. Notice the ratio between these two numbers:
14.93/13.91 = 1.0733
Now notice the ratio between these two numbers:
1073741824/1000000000 = 1.0737
Where did I find the number 1073741824? Here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gigabyte#Binary_definition
I think you didn't say what OS you are using, but I think you are using Windows. Am I right? I'm using Mac. We're having this conversation because Windows and Mac report file size differently. Specifically:
Some operating systems such as OS X express hard drive capacity or file size using decimal multipliers, while others such as Microsoft Windows report size using binary multipliers.

That's from the same page I just referenced. Other relevant pages:
http://superuser.com/questions/493878/why-are-some-all-files-bigger-on-mac-os-x
http://www.mac-forums.com/switcher-hangout/264964-file-size-difference-pc-and-mac.html
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5501534
Spectrasonics could have made this statement: 'Keyscape is 72gb on Windows and 77gb on Mac.' Instead they decided to make a simpler statement. Their desire for a simpler statement is understandable, and them picking the Mac number is also understandable.

Thanks c.chefly for detail explanation. Yes I use Windows 7 SR1 x64, and Windows 8.1 x64. I didn't know about such differences in file size between Mac OS and Win. Thank you for info, now all things are much more clear to me. Best wishes from,
Pedja.

I'm glad you understood, now lets get back into topic.
Size is not that relevant. There always have been size difference when reported by different system / formatting systems.

Great! Thanks!
Had some problems, because I had to place the Keyscape Library Folder with the *txt and .zmap File into "STEAM/Omnisphere/Soundsources/Factory/" and there create the keyboard folder for all the *db and *db2 Files.
But now everything works perfectly!
What a great upload!!

yes, and yes. I can make all the acoustic pianos working, just not the ones that need LA Custom C7 ^ Uber Hard. I copied all the acoustic and vertical pianos db's into the folder. but I didn't copied ALL the files. should I?

Yes, I bet this is the problem.

It seems logical that it would not be necessary to install every file. However, various reports in this thread seem to indicate that logic does not apply, and an incomplete installation will cause problems.

First I want to wish Happy New Year,
for all in AudioZ, specially for people in Keyscape theme. I have a question about hardware requirements for Keyscape. I plan to install it with Omnisphere in notebook with this characteristics: Processor Intel 4500U (dual core double tread 1.8-3 GHz), HDD WD SATA3 5400 RPM, 8 Gb 1600 MHz, NVidia GT 750M DDR5 and OS Win8.1 x64. Does anybody can suggest me is it enough power for Omnisphere and Keyscape. Thanks for your attention.

It's a question of which patches you are trying to use, and if you need to switch quickly. For example, if you are in a live performance, then it's probably unacceptable to wait a long time while switching from one patch to another. For recording, then a delay is annoying but not critical.

Keep in mind that instrument size varies enormously. For example, in Keyscape the Wurlitzer 200A and LA Custom C7 Grand Piano are both beautiful sounds; the former is 2877mb and the latter is 64057mb (as indicated in the Omnisphere 'Info' display). That ratio is 22:1. The Pianet M is also a beautiful sound, and in that comparison with the big piano the ratio is 84:1.

I think on your machine you will be able to play any Keyscape instrument, but for the large instruments it will be a slow process to switch from one instrument to another. But worth the wait, because Keyscape sounds so good!

Omnisphere instruments are generally smaller than Keyscape instruments, so mostly you will run into the worst delays with the latter, not the former.

An internal SSD will help you a lot, and they are much cheaper than they used to be, especially if you shop around. For example, on eBay right now I see many 500gb internal SSD for under $150. On Newegg right now I see 480gb SSD on sale for $110. Many things your machine does will be much faster when you get rid of the spinning disk.

c. chiefly thank you very much,
for very in detail explanation what I can excepted with my configuration and various sounds. I really appreciate your great effort to reply to all my question and dilemmas about some aspects of keyscape. I red from web site what are the minimal hardware requirements for keyscape. But, it's something different when you get opinion from user. I am an amateur, and speed of loading (I am only home player) is not too much critical to me. Something which is much more critical is my memory size ( 8 Gb). What you mean about that, in condition of sound combination (Omnisphere sounds with Keyscape sounds and using some effects). Excuse me for my bothering you with questions and questions, but what you will suggest to me to add first SSD or to rise RAM for 8 Gb, or to do bought. Thank you again for replies, I wish you all best in the New Year.

I think my machine is roughly similar to yours. It's a 2011 MacBook Pro 13", 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5. I use Omnisphere inside Mainstage for live performance, where I want to be able to switch quickly between one patch and another.

About a year ago I upgraded ram to 16gb, and I got a 1tb SSD. This made a very big difference in my use of Omnisphere. I had a main Mainstage concert file that contained 3 Omnisphere instances, and each instance contained 8 patches. Pre-SSD, opening that Mainstage concert took over 3 minutes. Now it takes about 30 seconds. I know you said that speed of loading doesn't matter much to you, but a very big boost like that will enhance your experience.

For me, the SSD upgrade was more important than the ram upgrade. I think you should probably do the steps in the following order:

- Before you upgrade anything, try using Omnisphere and Keyscape and see how they behave on your machine.
- Based on what you learned so far, consider an SSD.
- See how things work with the SSD, and then consider a ram upgrade.

No need to do it all at once. Every user is unique. You might discover that SSD is enough to give you what you want, and you don't need more ram. It depends on your individual needs and expectations, and on the exact details of how you use your machine.

One reason I suggest SSD upgrade before ram upgrade: SSD upgrade will effect everything you do on the machine. Every restart, every time you open any program, you will see the SSD improvement. Benefits of ram upgrade will be less pervasive and obvious.

Even with my upgraded machine, I cannot do what I really want to do, which is load several large Keyscape instruments at the same time. The LA Custom C7 Grand Piano is so big that it will use up almost all my ram, if I also have a few other instruments loaded. 32gb of ram would probably solve that problem!

hi guys. I noticed that every time I play an instrument from Keyscape library inside Omnisphere, in the Task Manager the RAM goes up and down, in other word the samples keep loading and unloading in and out of RAM. alongside, the disk is always at 100% (which I can't complain for, because it's an old spinning 5400 - but, every second?!). I think it works like Kontakt DFD, but with Kontakt I don't have RAM loading and unloading constantly. where do I go wrong? modifying the settings in Omnisphere didn't seem to resolve the issue.

and... When I save a patch, it becomes an Omnisphere patch, losing all the benefits from Keyscape GUI&stuff. is there a way to keep the Keyscape GUI with a saved user patch?

This sounds normal to me. Every second, Keyscape and your OS are trying to manage exactly how your ram should be used. You didn't mention how much you have.

Good question. I haven't tried that, and I don't know the answer. Maybe there is an answer in the manual:

quote by c.chieflyThis sounds normal to me. Every second, Keyscape and your OS are trying to manage exactly how your ram should be used. You didn't mention how much you have

ok, but if I set my entire system in a way that I use up to 6,8 GB in my project (in live situation) after having loaded all the instruments and tracks, I don't want my RAM to be filled up without control when I play, because if I set my setup to be MAXIMUM 6,8 GB (for example), it MUST stay in that range (6,8). Kontakt DFD works this way: once you loaded the .nki, whatever you play it will not load other GBs into RAM. whenever you'll have set the DFD and the instrument is loaded in RAM, that's it. you can be sure that NOTHING will be loaded in RAM while you play.

with Keyscape it can. or, it surely will. this does not allow me to perfectly set my system, because I cannot know how much RAM I could use (because Keyscape will always need some more empty RAM to fill up without asking you anything).

Now you got the problem?

So, there it is: even if I have the mininum requirements (8 GB of RAM), I cannot use Keyscape, because if I fill my 8 GB up, Keyscape will ask for more when I play, thus crashing the whole thing.

If you are having crashes, then you have some other problem that needs to be diagnosed, and ram is probably not the real issue.

quote by c.chieflyIf you are having crashes, then you have some other problem that needs to be diagnosed, and ram is probably not the real issue.

no. I know what I'm talking about. it crashes because I run out of RAM (even a dumb person can see it: in the task manager the RAM goes up to a few hundreds of MB and that Windows sends me a message of not enough RAM - I disabled the Virtual Memory Paging).

I'm not talking about my hardware!!! I'm talking about the software. the hardware it's okay and does not have any problem. I'm not a faggot who does not know how to use a PC. I was asking why Keyscape loads RAM this way - and was reasoning about the difference between this kind of streaming and DFD's one.

The manual does not help me at all: it says a bunch of bullshits which I do not need and it doesn't say important things, advanced settings or other.

It's hard to use Keyscape in live with other VSTi's, because it monopolizes all the resources. I have an i7-3632QM with 8 GB (the HDD is 5400 but it is not the point of my problem, for now), so I don't have problems hardware related (and don't tell me "buy some more RAM", thanks.). I'm just asking to understand how this piece of software works, because I really like how it sounds, but it's very frustrating to use. :)

I thank you @c.chiefly for all your kind altruism and availability in solving other's issues with this sw; I'd like to isolate the problem, which for now is: understanding and setting the streaming mode of Keyscape.

hmmm... well i know 32 bit ableton will limit you to only 4gb of ram, which sucks when running multiple instances of omnisphere. if i remember, spectrasonics recommends at least 8 gigs for omni.

in toolbar click Live and then About Live and check to make sure youre running 64. It sounds like omni is taking up all your ram reserve.. did you know you can set a limit on the memory omnisphere is allowed to use in the System tab of omnisphere?

if all else fails you can run your instances of omni in a low memory mode and then just switch it back when you press each channel to audio.

just throwing spaghetti on the wall. this link might help you https://support.spectrasonics.net/manual/Omnisphere/system/streaming/index.html

Thank you very much, for all your detail suggestions, I really appreciate it and it is a great help to me. I have to say that I am little bit disappoint with fact that 16 Gb it's not enough if you use several large Keyscape instruments (LA Custom C7 Grand Piano and ...) I was wrong that 16 Gb of RAM will be more that enough.
Processor obviously don't change too much (we has very similar machines, only difference which can effect on Keyscape is processor difference (in architecture but with similar speed), my (I7) and your (I5). But, this is derivative importance, maybe because they are instruments base on samples (on which speed of samples loading, directly disk speed, is much more essential than processor architecture). If it will be a mathematically modeled instruments, from my point of view, it will be difference.
That why I can say that your suggestions are very logical and proper (if upgrade to add first SSD). Thank you again, and I wish you all best in New Year.

Yes, I think your analysis on this point is exactly correct.

I have to say that I am little bit disappoint with fact that 16 Gb it's not enough if you use several large Keyscape instruments

I should mention that I haven't bothered to try the 'Thinning' feature. It's possible that feature works well; that is, greatly reduces memory load with only a small penalty in sound quality.

Also, I was possibly overstating the problem when I said "I cannot do what I really want to do, which is load several large Keyscape instruments at the same time." I should be more specific. Right now I'm experimenting with a Mainstage file containing the following Keyscape patches:

Vibanet, 9117mb
Rhodes - Classic, 8742mb
Vintage Vibe Electric Piano, 7679mb
Clavinet C, 7100mb
Wurlitzer 200A, 2877mb
MKS-20 - Vibes, 1733mb
Harmochord, 1149mb
Pianet M, 762mb

Some of those numbers are large. The total is 39gb. Recall that the LA Custom C7 Grand Piano is 64gb. That's the biggest instrument. The second biggest is Wing Upright, 20gb. So I can actually run several large instruments together as long as I am not using those two very large ones.
