TEAM AKADEMiC | 11 November 2013 | 13,3 GB
Cinesamples is proud to present CineWinds CORE Library, a next-generation orchestral woodwinds library recorded in the legendary SONY Pictures Scoring Stage in Los Angeles, and mixed by master engineer Dennis Sands (The Avengers, The Shawshank Redemption, Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, American Beauty). The CineWinds CORE Library covers the essentials of the orchestral woodwinds section, and as always, we focus on simplicity and unparalleled recording quality. Each instrument has been meticulously sampled to cover the nuance and detail of these, while maintaining ease of use for the composer. CineWinds CORE Library provides a strong foundation of expressive woodwinds for our composing templates.

ARTICULATIONS PATCHES
All of the Articulations Patches in CineWinds Core contain shorts of various lengths and dynamics, as well as sustains and trills. We recorded multiple repetitions per note and multiple dynamics.
Also, all of the mapping in the Articulations Patches is dynamic, so you can select from 5 intuitive presets in the user interface. A custom mapping grid is offered, for users who wish to customize the parameters beyond the presets. Every parameter and value is changeable, and nearly any combination is possible. Of course, if you are not a tweaker, you can stick with one of the 5 preset mappings (recommended).

TRUE LEGATO PATCHES
What is True Legato? True legato means that we sampled all of the intervalic leaps throughout the ranges, both upwards and downwards, for each solo woodwind. When you play a True Legato patch, it instantly analyses the intervals you play, then plays the appropriate transitional leap between the notes. The result is a smooth and realistic legato performance. For all instruments we did this at 3 dynamic levels, again using our dynamic morphing to blend seamlessly from piano to fortissimo. A key feature of our True Legato patches, is the Polyphonic Legato mode. This mode allows you to play lines of 2 or more notes simultaneously, while maintaining the appropriate transition samples between all notes. This is especially effective when playing chords that need to connect in a realistic way.
As with CineWinds CORE, we assembled a team of the finest musicians and crew — we found great comfort and amazing sounds at the SONY Scoring Stage, recorded and mixed by the unparalleled engineer Dennis Sands. The woodwinds in CineWinds PRO are covered with the same depth and nuance as the instruments in CineWinds CORE, and William Lyons gives us a series of ethnic woodwinds of such expressiveness and detail rarely heard in orchestral sample libraries. The PRO expansion features twice the content of the CORE library, and we hope you enjoy every bit of it.

Please support the devs, there have been rumblings that they want to move to iLok and though I could care less because that will guarantee I will never buy their products I still think it is bad for their customers so if you make money from composing BUY THE DAMN SOFTWARE!!! You get a chance to get a taste and make better buying decisions but a society where the creators can't get paid is a society that will ultimately collapse.

A culture without property, or in which creators can't get paid, is anarchy, not freedom.

This is what i do for libraries like sample modeling when i make money from composing using them … i will test cinewinds core but as pro was sounding awful to my ears… i don't think that cinewind core will sound better… then it will follow the pro pack to my trash….

sgenevay,

Fair enough. That would be the ideal situation really- if you don't like it or use it, by all means don't feel obligated to buy it. I only hold issue with the very real number of people that are making plenty of money through their pirated libraries (or are well within the means of buying the libraries and use them quite a bit, yet reason their way out of buying).

Some have been been mocking lately at Cataly5t and others' efforts to have people buy what they use, saying that because this is a "pirate site" we are all a band of heartless bastards. Keep in mind that we aren't talking about pirating major films, popular financed tv shows like game of thrones, or the jerks at many of the big music companies. Assuming they don't go the dongle route, if they notice significant downward trends after their entire catalogs are released (poor Effimov) they'll just go the way of NineVolt Audio and Alex Wallbank (Cinematic Strings 2) and either stop making new releases entirely or lose motivation and just work much, much more slowly.

Anyway, thanks a lot for the share! I agree that Cinewinds is probably the weakest of the Cinesamples Orchestral line, mostly because Berlin Woodwinds is so spectacular. Cinestrings is shaping up to be freaking fantastic though (releasing this month), I'll likely pull the trigger on that immediately and not even wait for the demo from here.

I completely agree with you. I think that warez can be good to make better decisions since we're not rich and we can't exactly demo a product such as this but restraint should be used because it's all too easy to never buy. If we truly like a product that someone makes then it is in our best interest to ensure they have the incentive to continue doing so. I find it shameful when people make money using software they didn't buy and aren't even phased by it like some of these top name DJs making millions of dollars but using a cracked copy of Sylenth. wow

But then how could they put they get enough money to make bigger and better weapons for killing people, spying on others and tearing our world and everything in it to pieces? Governments aren't in the business of building a better world.

A more detailed comparison on CineWinds versus Berlin Woodwinds:

Berlin Woodwinds (BWW) and BWW Exp A are geared towards ensemble (i.e. full orchestra) wind writing and not upfront feature wind writing. BWW Exp B addresses this and has several wind instruments that are geared more for an upfront solo like 8Dio's recent Claire series. Personally, I've been able to get away with the Oboe in the standard BWW for solo writing, since a lot of film scores go for that "in the mix" sound anyway (think of Across the Stars by John Williams).

Cinewinds has some "ethnic" or world instruments while BWW just focuses on doing the standard orchestral instruments right (neither was the wrong choice, just different approaches). They aren't all super deeply sampled, though they sound great for the most part.

CineWinds tries to straddle the line and sometimes does very well, but not in all respects. Its mic positions allow for both upfront and standard orchestral position, but none of the instruments are quite as robust as BWW (maybe because of the cost of so many mics plus so many articulations). That said, you could fit all of the important instruments from CineWinds Core and Pro into 1 or 2 instances of Kontakt, while with BWW you really need to do 1 instance per instrument (so about 8 instances), which means BWW is more of a resource hog. With the 1.5 update BWW runs very smoothly on my system though... dunno if the 1.5 update has been released on AudioZ yet or not.

Tldr; I think BWW sounds much, much better for what it has, though CineWinds Core + Pro has a few more instruments. That said, if you don't write for winds much Cinewinds does the job more than well enough and doesn't take up as much Ram or Cpu.

There's more to say, but that's it in a nutshell. If anyone's interested, I'll maybe write up more later, killer headache at the moment though.

allshallfade,

My main problem i'm always searching for better sounds particularly concerning strings and some woodwinds… i found something i couldn't believe in Sample Modeling, trumpets, trombones, horns, tuba, clarinet / Cla bass english horn and oboe… they sound just incredible to me. I'm sure nobody will make better… even more when you play them with wind controller.
Berlin are really better than CineWinds yes… but still not realist enough to my ears… simply cause i think that when you play with a library based on samples… you don't have choice but to play what they recorded… you can't go out of the limits… thing that you can do with sample Modeling.

Of course i'm buying what i use cause … i don't make a lot of money… i wished i would … but i wouldn't earn anything without devs… and i know this is fair to pay for what permitting you to earn a bit of something.

Now i can clearly understand cineSamples react… but seriously i would be so so mad at them if i would have buy Cinewinds core and pro based on their demos…. cause i think it's misleading advertising… but well … some may like those samples… that's not my business… but CineSample are too "approximative" to me…

sgenevay,

Again, no judgement here if you download the library, don't like it, and don't buy it. I do the same if I'm on the fence, CineStrings is the rare situation where I'm already sold.

I agree that Samplemodeling Brass is fantastic, don't like the sound of their winds though. They are incredibly easy and versatile to play sure, but in terms of the realistic sound, their Clarinet and other winds don't quite have it.

Don't have too much time to write up another novel, but you're really not going to find much better than Cinewinds, 8dio Claire, or especially Berlin Woodwinds for a while, sgenvevay. They're advanced libraries with A list composers genuinely using them, and to great effect. At a certain point it's the user more than the samples, which many people like Alexa need to understand.

If you're after being able to play the sample library live like a real instrument, I agree entirely with Samplemodeling being supreme. But if you're willing to work with the library a bit (getting your hands dirty with programming midi notes and CC after the fact) and accept that some things aren't possible with today's technology, Cinewinds, BWW, Claire Winds, and East West's Hollywood Woodwinds really are all truly astounding in context.

Well spoken mate ..... CineSamples pretent to be a major label when it comes to Kontakt libraries, but in general most of their stuff is pretty disappointing!

allshallfade,

Thanx for the word, mate. I actually use BWW and find it amazing.. I just wonder if i'd miss anything too incredible by not using cinewinds. I missed the bass clarinets and the contrabasson, but they are now released.. as well as some expressiveness in some instruments.. but lets wait for that EXP B to come.

Cheers

I just checked out pro, and many of the samples have a weird pumping sound to them, as if a faulty compressor were used or maybe a bad application of noise gate.

I feel kinda dirty for downloading all of those libraries lately because let's remember, it's not the same thing as downloading a lil wayne mp3, he's gonna get rich anyways. Library makers are usually very small teams who are devoted to it and I'm sure don't make millions off of it. I recently graduated and am looking for a job. I can't afford these libraries at the moment but I know I will spend some of my money on the libraries that deserve it once I'm settled. I'd like to think I will at least. But yeah, like Catalyst said, if you enjoy the products and have income, throw some money at the products sometimes otherwise they just won't make any of them anymore.
