Yeah its free when you by a controller but you need either to be on line to authorize the software once installed with ilock manager or you need an ilock dongle if your studio pc is offline like mine.

So I own a MPK88 but I cant use VIP software because my studio pc is offline and there is no fucking way I am going to buy a stupid dongle.

So fuck you AKAI

but can you install VIP 3 and activate it with serial only, without iLok dongle nor iLok app ?
No, see the video tutorial on akaipro page, needs iLok account, perhaps no dongle (but I'm not sure about that) but surely needs iLok account and install iLok PACE drivers on your system, and so it is with VSTis bundled with Akai controller.
I was thinking of taking MPC261 for they pads and VIP option but now i think i will wait and take Komplete S61.
