Academy.fm - Creating a DJ Intro (Before Going on Stage) screenshot
MP4| 350 MB
Cinematic intros for your DJ sets and performances can be an awesome way to create anticipation and capture the attention of your audience. In this tutorial, Jake Shanahan will create a cinematic intro in Logic Pro for his Progressive House track, Janjira. He’ll begin with strings to set the tone and immediately build tension.

Next, he’ll add cinematic drum elements for power and intensity, sub for low end, filtered synths, and FX to tie everything together. Witness the entire creation of this intro including writing, arrangement, and sound design – start to finish.

What?
Doing a good intro on a DJ set is something that we (the old school DJs) did before.
Today, all you need is to grab a good track, and you're done.
Sorry.... I forgot to say that, if you play regularly in the last 30 years...
Kids these days only seem to know "sync" and play horrible "music".

As always, KUDIS to the uploader but... I seriously cannot stand Shanahan's "lessons". As stated by TeamVTX who said it perfectly, us old schoold DJ's have been doing this for a very long time. Taking movies samples, Old battle breaks etc and creating a custom intro was a must so that people know where the last guy ended his set and you are beginning yours. I made it a point to NEVER mix into another DJs set. I found that to be just downright disrespectful to BOTH DJs. Now as far as Shanahan goes his teachings (If you can call them that) are just so dry and stripped of anything really knowledgeable. It's just always tid bit type of sketches whereas other instructors on Academy.FM are far more motivating and interactive. He comes off so pompous and boring and the same time. Next time prep before your lesson plan buddy, will make a hell of a difference...

Guys, there's no need to complain. There will always be generational gaps and major differences between artists. Some people entering the music world don't think about intros or outros so this is for them. Some new kid starting out will pick something up from this and that's all it matters.

I grew up on both Metal and Electronica and laugh whenever someone complains about something so benign. Punk Rockers think 'Techno' sucks cos the beat is always the same, yet just about every Punk song sounds exactly the same.

Again, I don't know if this instructor is boring or not, but for a quick lesson, some new producer might learn a thing or two.

Bear in mind, everyone was a noob at one point. You weren't a perfect DJ, Producer, etc. You sucked and probably still sound awful to some people. Some will think your shit sounds good, some will think you need to quit and do something else.

Let people learn even if you know it and think this lesson might suck.
