Mad Skills MIDI and Music Technology in the Twentieth Century by Ryan Diduck screenshot
English | 2018 | ASIN: B079G42CDC, ISBN: 1910924768 | 199 Pages | 5 MB
A history of electronic music that goes way beyond the Moog

Part rigorous history, part insightful commentary, and part memoir, Mad Skills tells the story behind MIDI, aka the Musical Instrument Digital Interface, through the twentieth century's kaleidoscopic lens.

Guiding us across one hundred years of musical instruments, and the music made with them, Mad Skills recounts the technical and creative innovations that led to the making of the most vital, long-standing, ubiquitous, and yet invisible music technology of our time.

Thanks!

Sidenote: Why does the Rockfile.co-link always get a new name on the zip? Is it Rockfile that automatically rename the files that are uploaded?

This is a scientific text book about MIDI technology. Not useful for songwriters.

I liked this text from the book:
"The M1, unveiled in 1988, marked an important intersection between the
desire to create realistic-sounding patches that emulated other sorts of
instruments, and the appeal of any blazing synth sound one could imagine."

A brief history of MIDI, in fact very well written, brings photos of important moments along with it's dates. Unfortunately this book doesn't have page numbering.

Midi is the greatest revolution for musicians, even those who don't work directly with MIDI, as pianists who can see and hear the keys of their piano come up & down, unfortunately high precision solenoids are expensive and still present problems, but German technology is having a kraftwerk for perfecting cheaper and accurately solenoids that will reach 99.99%.

But the same pianists can listen to the MIDI of their interpretations carrying a big and heavy piano in the Kontakt, for this has the silent piano of Yamaha, but unfortunately doesn't have much competition.
