Acustica Audio Amber 3 2023-R2R screenshot
Team R2R | 20 Nov 2023 | 338.8MB
Amber 3 offers an accurate reproduction of an original class A optical compressor, plus a redesigned version of an iconic EQ and preamp created by a celebrated American company.

A Class-A Legend
Amber's compressor offers an accurate reproduction of an original class A opto compressor manufactured in the USA. We went great lengths to preserve the distinctive character of the original hardware unit, as well as its transparent musicality.

Amber 3 EQ
The Amber3 EQ is available in both mono and stereo versions. Both include the same controls, but Amber EQ Stereo also features extra functionalities to help facilitate your workflow.

Amber 3 Pre
The Amber 3 Pre features several super-reliable preamplifiers that will gently warm up to your sound, just like the corresponding real circuits on the original hardware. (Also available inside the channel strip.)

A witch says,

Library is completely decrypted, decompressed, DRM related bloat removed, and built to the clean one.

On the contrary, SSL plugins have zero latency (ECO) mode, which consumes less CPU
  Resident 5.08.2014 450

With algorithmic plugins ECO usually means no oversampling (lower fidelity) , hence the lower latency.
AA follows a different philosophy (also) in this regard.
There is no oversampling (in not Hyper engine versions) and when it does, I am 90% sure it does not add extra latency. I don't have a DAW in front of me to double check.
Amber is from an old generation, core13 to be exact. (Latest core was 18 and after that is Hyper 1-2-3.)
Not the best example of AA capabilities in 2023.
When Gold, Erin, Salt start hitting, you will see people go bananas in the comments with the quality, usuability etc.

Whats strange is..if you look at the latency meter in studio one or your Daw of choice acustica ZL plugins ( even the latest ones ) report 10-22 ms so they are not true zero latency.
Fake people have an image to maintain_Real people don't give a shit.

They have never been, including the legit ones - but the audio quality is reduced.

Any presets with these puppies? I know some people don't care but I'm all about the presets and I'm not ashamed to say it!

338MB! Absolutely insane how bloated the retail plugin is.

The files are so 'king large because the underlying technology is a form of Impulse Responses derived from the hardware being emulated, so you can have Gigabytes of data for any given emulation.

Acustica plugs also, notoriously, chew up bucket loads of CPU capacity, reconstituting the emulated signal.

There are rarely presets, and when there are, they are AI loadings which set the front panel controls in response to the specific signal passing through the plug.

Basically, this is as close to a piece of hardware that you can currently get. Hardware don't have presets. Hardware don't come in multiple instances, and hardware don't use onboard CPU. If any of this is a problem to you, you don't want Acustica.

Well, 'ZL' plugins causes latency of 1~4ms. Yes, i know nobody said ZL is acronym of Zero Latency...
  Member 29.02.2016 44

It is not the most long one. Many of their ZLs are 20-40ms in real.

although my knowlage about hardware is almost zero !
but, (Acustica Audio) products are always welcomed from the community since it's amost un-crackable ,even with that un-reasonable huge size of their products !

can anyone give me a hint about this company products
I'm here , That's more than enough !!

In my old intel nuc pc, one instance of the amber strip with pre, all filters and the compresor enabled, is using less than 2% of cpu in reaper

Very disappointed with Acustica Audio company so far. All their plugins seem to be obsolete as free or stock plugins could produce same or better sound than them. Amber 3 disappoints. free Analog Obsession plugins probably sound better than this

I think it's more of an f-you to AA and for us to have free stuff rid of bloat than it is for us to have excellent quality plugins.

Nebula has been over-hyped for years. I was once a paying customer of some acqua plug-ins until I was given the shaft by their leader :/ basically they continually released buggy plug-ins then by version 7 or w/e they would finally fix the sonic flaws but it took years. On top of that, once I got over the hype I realised that normal plug-ins (by now) running at 96k (as I do) were more than good enough if not better than Acqua plug-ins (they compare better to 44.1k algo plugs without oversampling).

Nebula was invented at a time when plug-ins had issues and everyone was running at 44.1k with no oversampling. This is not to say they don't have SOME decent stuff, but it's certainly not the be-all end all as the company and its rampant fanboys will have you believe. They also often suffer from weird sonic glitches when you go out of range or distort badly etc. You have to be very careful using these plugs. Also they often gave a plasticky coated sound to my recordings, which at first sounded 'nice' (euphonic eh?) but on a full mix made it sound heavy handed and fake... be careful.

All this was based on older plugs like Honey for example and they did improve but still... great algo plugs at 96k are more than a match and with none of the artifacts or workflow issues. R2R may cause me to re-appraise more fairly now they are 'free' and performance is improved.

Agreed with this. My experience matches yours pretty closely. When i first started buying them in late 2019 i was very hyped. I thought i found a secret weapon. It felt like collecting pokemon cards as a kid. And the facebook group hypes you up even more because other people feel the same way. But once the novelty wears off you realize they don't sound that good. It's good, but it's not magic. It has its strengths and weaknesses. It sorta sounds like a "hifi veil" over the sound. The compression in particular never sounded quite right to me and always had sort of a classic Acustica "clicky" sound (hard to describe). El Rey is the only compressor of theirs i really like and still use today. You can't drive the plugins very hard and have it sound good.

Around 2022 i'd become disenchanted with Acustica. CPU usage too high, sound not as amazing as i thought, saturation gives artefacts when driving inputs hard, too expensive, etc. And algo plugins have developed to the point where they were probably the best sounding options now.

But i will say this, in 2023 they have definitely improved a lot. The new EQ's handle transients REALLY well, they sound great. The compression is "okay" to "pretty good" depending on the plugin. But the EQ's now are super. Particularly Salt and Cherry. I was pleasantly surprised.

Their saturation is getting better too. You can "drive" plugins now.

I Never tried AA Plugins, I've been using UAD Since I can remember. and it serves me well. but judging the way AA builds their plugins + their Naming Scheme... INHO they look like Total idiots. Either way lets give their products a go and see if its any good.

well, this is an emulation of avalon.
Real Avalon is not a miracle.
Is not cheap, then only in good studios (good studios are good engineer, and of course GOOD ARTISTS)
Put an avalon at home studio with a simple artist (like the most artist) is a nonsense.
Some this normal people thinks he have a custom gibson from zak wilde or ibanez jem he plays like vai . . . AND NO NO NO NO .. . a regular artist playing guitar sonds the same with thomann guitar or custom gibson. The problem are in your fingers . . .
WIth avalon is the same . . . . if you buy a avalon your records will not better . . .

and this software replicate the avalon . . .
and yes, have the mojo, but only apreciated for proffesionals with good ears with clear ideas about color, saturation, etc . . .
Normal people do not find any differences in the sound between fabfilter an this . . .
i think this software have in mind the target of good trained people with hardware that need a software solution for his hardware workflow.
For me amber is near of gamechanger , reduce lots of time render my channels with inserts of avalon hardware . . . and i know how to tilt o de ess with avalon . . .
Maybe for new people, with no idea about hardware, making hiphop or electronic music with vsti like falcon 3 . . . this is not he tool.
Is not a question about is good or not . . . the question is : Is the right tool for you? -for me YES.
For me fabfilter/izotope is acomplete disaster . . . . because to my age (near 60) i need another workflows, i do not use eyes, spectrums or move points in a screen . . .
Is like a pianist composing with a mouse . . . what the hell . . .
Different tools for different people . . .

Good states. AA sound definitely needed ears developed and even better if you have trying hardware in recording sessions in the real studio time to time at least. Once this knowledge and hearing aesthetics are integrated and you know where to actually put your attention when comparing this Volterra Kernels samples to ordinary algo plugins — there is a low probability you'll go back to algos. They feels like they are doing nothing, operating the sound just in 2d space after that.

And as you clearly state Avalons are the clearest hardware irl, their point is in fidelity rather then flashy obvious coloration, so this is unlikely to be a good first candidate for draw conclusions about the sound of AA technology.

I bet there also many who will listen to it on low cost active «monitors» with all in one multi-super everything in one box sound interface which make this even tricky.

I’m appalled by how much bloat AA put into their plugs. As a past legit customer for sometime now. What R2R exposed makes me wanna expose them all over social media.

Load the Preamp. The Input gain does not do anything......
Also, this compressor acts really weird, doesn't seem to do anything at some settings even though it should according to the GUI and meters. And does not do anything good on any material I've tried it on.... I would be so mad if I paid for it..
Acoustica can't even make correct stepped knobs in the GUI, for things that are obviously STEPPED..........
Horrendous plugins.. I don't understand that these "top" mixing engineers put their name on some other plugins (maybe those plugins are OK though...).

Audio glitches when you turn 'em on and off more than any other plugins.

Agree that looking at EQs and meters are bad sometimes.
I don't have to use eyes to use Fabfilter though.. just make 4 eq bands and connect them to hardware like Console 1.

I have a professionally treated studio room and top notch monitors and I don't hear any special "mojo" from this plugin. It's just weird to me. :)
But I haven't tried the hardware so I can't compare.

Can you post any audio examples of the mojo this can produce?
(like before and after results)
