Soundtheory Gullfoss v1.10.0 READ NFO-RET screenshot
Team RET | 02 Sep 2021 | 205.6MB
Gullfoss is an easy-to-use tool for everyone from the amateur musician to the professional mastering engineer. Its clean user interface offers a set of basic parameters that can be adjusted to improve the clarity, detail, spatiality, and balance of a mix or recording in a matter of seconds.

Take control
Gullfoss is an intelligent equalizer that listens to a signal and decides how to prepare the audio so that your brain can get the most information out of it. The realtime analysis of Gullfoss uses Soundtheory’s computational auditory perception model to understand which audible elements are competing for your attention. Gullfoss allows for quick and precise fixes that would otherwise be unsolvable or would require significant time and experience to resolve.

Gullfoss is even capable of fixing balancing issues between different sound elements without access to the individual tracks. The internal auditory model allows Gullfoss to make objective decisions about the perceived sound. As a result, mixes processed with Gullfoss will generally translate more consistently between different listening situations.

Gullfoss, enabled by new patent-pending equalizer technology, processes audio with unrivaled sound quality. The equalizer is capable of changing its frequency response more than 300 times per second and without introducing audible artifacts or degrading signal quality. Together with the highly advanced computational auditory perception model that has been developed by Soundtheory, Gullfoss is the first and only product of its kind.

Tech Specs
System Requirements
macOS 10.9 or greater / Windows 7 or greater.
Intel, AMD or compatible processor not older than 2008 and with support for SSE3.
Graphics processor with support for OpenGL 3.2 or later.
iLok License Manager for activation (dongle is not required).
64 bit plug-in host with support for AU, VST, VST3 or AAX Native.

Specifications
Mono-to-mono or stereo-to-stereo processing. Stereo processing is compatible with M/S channels.
Supported sample rates from 16 kHz to 384 kHz.
Approximately 20ms of processing latency for Gullfoss and Gullfoss Master and 2ms for Gullfoss Live.
Approximately 1000 auditory perception model updates per second.
Approximately 300 equalizer updates per second.
Artifact-free processing enabled by perception-aware equalization.
Preservation of perceived loudness and dynamics.

* No iLok driver installation needed.
* It launches faster and more RAM friendly than original.

Last release from R2R does not work correctly. After v1.4, Gullfoss has
custom protections.

* It gets personal information from computer (MachineGUID, EnvironmentPath,
iLokLicenseNumber, iLokUserID etc). Those information will be encrypted
and copied to the Gullfoss on memory.
* Gullfoss reads himself and check if it is unpacked/cracked. The checking
process is made complicated. It's not a simple TRUE/FALSE protection.

Anyway, it's done. Time to remove those real time file access protection :)

It's really cool. It analysis the input and changes it's eq curve up to 300 times a second. It's not based on fletcher munson curves, it's not really a soothe replacement, or anything like that. Doesn't sound quite like anything else out currently. Very interesting stuff on their website about it. I'm a big fan, use it on the master and bus tracks often. Very excited to try the mastering version.

What is Gullfoss?

Gullfoss is an equalizer that intelligently adjusts its settings at every moment to improve the clarity of your audio signal.

As of April 2021 it has

- a new audio filtering engine, with higher quality

- sidechain functionality, which means that you can now export stems with your Gullfoss settings

- zoom functionality, which allows the user to alter the gain of the EQ graph up to a vertical scale maximum of 3dB

Any way to change location of RET folder from C:\RET to something else?

Edit: For anyone wondering; I solved it by changing C:\RET to F:\RET inside the VST3 files using hex editing in UltraEdit.
How I did it: First open the Gullfoss.vst3, Gullfoss Live.vst3 or Gullfoss Master.vst3 file in UE and CTRL+H to hex edit, then CTRL+F to search and enter C:\RET and when you find it just replace C:\RET with F:\RET, then CTRL+S to save the file. Move files from C:\RET to F:\RET. Delete C:\RET. Done.
NOTE: this might only have worked because I only needed to change the drive letter and not making any changes to the length of the path. I dont know what I'm doing or how any of this really works.

Edit 2: I agree with Olymoon, use symlink instead!

can you explain how you did that?

Hardcoded path in plugin binary?
Why x:\RET does exactly?
UltraEdit is a great tool for patching binaries, and its macro system is wonferful to do repetitive tasks.

Open the Gullfoss.vst3 file with ue, is that right? Can you tell me what to do next?

Using symlink would avoid to modify the dll... And will solve for future installation. Easier and safer.

How exactly do you use Symlink for this?
  Moderator 21.01.2012 2373 16092

Like for any symlink:
1. copy the folder to desired destination, then delete it
2. In an elevated command prompt write: mklink /d "C:\RET" "Address where you want this folder to be"

That's it.

Or you can use a program to create symlink, like:

I created a vst3 exclusive diff patch.
After applying this patch, move the set of files into "C: \ Program Files \ Soundtheory \ Gullfoss" in "C: \ RET \ Gullfoss".
Then delete "C: \ RET".
that's all

I did not use v.1.(0)4 because I found that DSEQ3 and Sonible SmartEQ3 combined give much better results.
At first sight, everything is the same as before: a bit smudged sound, weird hard to predict EQ reactions, pretty high THD, some phase distortion, messy harmonics and uneven attack/release response.
The 'master' version is practically the same, except for that you have to do much more mouse dragging, or wheel turning.

Gullfoss does perform some phase rotation in its process. It’s part of the “correction” process.

The 1.4 version had a timebomb, where after some time it would become a bypassed signal if I remember it right.

Wait a second, I'm confused.
So 1.10.0 is more recent than 1.4? Or is it older?
Read one way it could mean that this is 1.1, and the old release was 1.4, whcih would mean this is an older version, but read another way it could mean that this is the update following 1.9 for which they chose to pick 1.10 instead of 2.0.

The version number of the most recent version you can find at the home page.
This too shall pass

1.10.0 is 1.10 rather than 1.1
Developers do not need to follow the rule of a single cumulative count, if they think the update is a milestone,
For example, you can’t see Presonus Studio One 4.3 or 4.4 just 4.5

C:/RET with a bunch of ret files and probably growing with future releases. Any other place but this? No thanks mate.
And Soundtheory can't they just keep it simple, like in 1.4? they have to add and add, yes developers, please add 1 million things to confuse the user more, after he just got used with your product. You can never settle with these ITB plugins. not even for a few weeks, constantly have to re-adapt. Many of the added features, generally speaking, does nothing you can actually see or put to good use, devs just need a few more of your $$$.
Pass.

the Live and Master version additions were completely free for existing users of Gullfoss, and the price remains the same since they only had the normal version.

What's confusing about it? The controls are the same for all 3 different versions. The live version has a very noticeable improvement latency wise over the other two versions, now about the mastering version I agree with what FinalMaster said in a comment above, I haven't heard any difference using that one and eats lots more of cpu, but whatever, it was a free addition and you just can choose not to use it.
