Soundtheory Gullfoss v1.4.0-R2R screenshot

Team R2R | Sept 27 2019 | 21 MB
Gullfoss is an easy-to-use tool for everyone from the amateur musician to the professional mastering engineer. Its clean user interface offers a set of basic parameters that can be adjusted to improve the clarity, detail, spatiality, and balance of a mix or recording in a matter of seconds.

Take control
Gullfoss is an intelligent equalizer that listens to a signal and decides how to prepare the audio so that your brain can get the most information out of it. The realtime analysis of Gullfoss uses Soundtheory’s computational auditory perception model to understand which audible elements are competing for your attention. Gullfoss allows for quick and precise fixes that would otherwise be unsolvable or would require significant time and experience to resolve.

Gullfoss is even capable of fixing balancing issues between different sound elements without access to the individual tracks. The internal auditory model allows Gullfoss to make objective decisions about the perceived sound. As a result, mixes processed with Gullfoss will generally translate more consistently between different listening situations.

Gullfoss, enabled by new patent-pending equalizer technology, processes audio with unrivaled sound quality. The equalizer is capable of changing its frequency response more than 300 times per second and without introducing audible artifacts or degrading signal quality. Together with the highly advanced computational auditory perception model that has been developed by Soundtheory, Gullfoss is the first and only product of its kind.

Great! To me this is one of the most innovative and important plugins to come out in the past decade.

Thanks a lot! I plan on buying it as soon as I can afford to, until then Thank you for updating my #1 favorite effect

I couldn't agree more. I bought it back in Nov. for mac. Worth every Penny! I talked to the team at NAMM and they are very worth supporting. This is a secret weapon for most major mastering engineers these days.

Actually it is. and I never kid myself about sound. I may kid myself in other areas but never music.

I think Nanook answered to the :

That, of course in certainly NOT the case, are you joking ?

Welcome to the real world where the " secret weapon " of top mastering engineers is 10 years++ of experiencet.

I discovered Gullfoss from watching a Dave Pensado video and he said something similar to what HARVEYWALLBANGER said.
I tried it myself and now couldn't imagine ever calling a mix done without it.

Dave Pensado, yes... What can say ? You offer him a software, he'll cry out loud it's the ultimate masterpiece, always. But thanks for the Bob Clearmountain interview.

At least CLA has the decency to tell around that even his plug-ins are sh*** .

Funny.
I don't use any of the CLA stuff but I would never use anything just because someone recommends it.
That's why in my previous reply I wrote "I tried it myself" and decided.

I've never read anywhere of someone not being at least a little impressed by what this plugin does, so I imagine anyone who thinks nothing of it probably doesn't have good monitoring conditions, or something....

I'm not impressed by " automatic " anything. And no-one around me or who I know of.

Now, I mentioned CLA because in the previous comment I'd just refered to Bob Clearmountain, who's CLA's hero, it made a link. I don't use his plug-ins either.

But, excuse me, we're diverging from the original remark that Nanook answered to ( where is he ? he should answer this himself ) :

Maybe not most but I imagine the number who do use it is a lot higher than you think.

So on that basis it could be at least possible that he is closer to being correct than you are. It is possible.

I think my English is not good enough. This is the real world answer, again :

Please read again here

Ask anyone at Sterling Sound, Gateway Mastering, Abbey Road, Blackbird, Bernie Grundman, Columbia / Sony Pics, Capitol etc. ( it's 3 am, I'm tired, please complete the list ).

I understand you clearly, and ordinarily I would agree with you, but my point is that gullfoss is not an emulation of hardware or anything like that, it's something different, people with a room full of expensive hardware would still want to use this because it can make almost anything sound better and there is nothing to directly compare it to at the moment. It's the easiest way I've ever seen to improve a mix without actually altering the mix.

Put it on the master and just set Tame to 20 and Bias to -20. If you don't start hearing an immediate improvement then I don't know what to tell you.
  Resident 26.02.2013 22 2287
+3112
Ok, Sir, use it, if you like it, no problem ( of course ).

It is NOT a question of emulation.

It is a question of emulation, the emulation of a good mixing engineer.
As expected it fails but it could have a use is some few cases.

I tried this out and then bought soothe on a discount which I feel is much better at doing a similar job.

While many think both are doing the same thing they're not, bought both and Soothe is to remove ressonances while Gullfoss is more oriented to bring balance/naturality to a track. Also Soothe doesn't add its always subtractive while Gullfoss van be both subtractive (tame) and additive (recover). hey just my 2 cents as I use them both to solve different tings.

That's a great idea Oly !
From what I'm hearing this plugin can clean up a live F.O.H mix brilliantly.

The way I see it this will be outstanding for cleaning up wild rehearsal rooms, balancing annoying mic bleed , phasey cymbals and can be dropped straight into a recording session. Report back with your review.

I'm noticing this version loads slower than 1.3. Not a problem for me since I have more time than money, but just a note for anyone else. I'm surprised the GUI is still not resizable. I'm going to jump out the window when Waves and this finally get adjustable size GUI's
  Resident 25.12.2017 6 1883

Agreed. There are a handful of companies who produce plugins that lack resizable GUIs. This confuses me because, a lot of the time, they could benefit from being larger; basically anything with a spectrum/wave-window or small-ass knobs/sliders.
