Buy Behringer ECM8000.
It is the same as a one contained in the retail ARC package.

No it doesnt have the same Specs so the meassurement is going to be wrong

Professional measurement microphone features

Type: 1/4" precision measurement condenser microphone
Polar pattern: omnidirectional, free field
Capsule frequency response: 20-16,000 Hz
Calibrated frequency response when used with ARC: 16-20,000 Hz, +/- 1.5 dB
Output: transformerless, electronically balanced, 200 ohms output impedance
Sensitivity: 50 mV/Pa
Noise Equivalent Level: 22 dB
Max SPL: 130 dB for 3% THD
Requires 48V Phantom Power

Behringer
The ECM8000's ruler-flat frequency response from 15 Hz to 20 kHz

Its the software that make it go from 20hz-16khz to 16 hz -20khz

So if you use a mic with other specs it will meassure it wrong..

I have search for mic:s with that specs or very similar and only found one but i forgot to save the webpage there is many many meassurement mics and most of them have the same specs as the Behringer

Guitarmania is correct. The software without the official ARC mic is worthless.

Maybe the mic you searched was Dayton EMM-6, which comes with a custom calibration curve for the exact response of the individual microphone you've bought, similar in cost to the Behringer and Nady models. Take a look here:

-390-801

EDIT: Also one posssible candidate could be Superlux ECM-999 which can be found here: http://www.thomann.de/gb/superlux_ecm999.htm for €38 and individually calibrated version here http://audiotransducers.com/en/measurement-microphones/41-superlux-ecm999-indivi

for 92,00 € with VAT.

The software REQUIRES the official ARC mic. Read Guitarmania's very well-written comment.

Yes, it is useless. The Behringer is a totally different mic than the ARC one. I use the crack version to install it in the computer of the people people who I work with and measure their rooms with my original ARC mic. I tried with Behs, Mackie and DBX mics and the results are totally different.

If I remember well, program has in options a place to tell what micro are you using, and Behringer ECM8000 is accepted into.
I have a Behringer ECM8000 and results are acoustically good compared without ARC Sys.
A suggestion = from time to time a "bed mattres" must be replaced at home. Don t shoot it to street = cut it with a knife an patience + then paste it to a thin wood rectangle (1 meter x 1 meter / or what you want) + then add it to the wall with some screws = you are gradually acoustizing yor room.

My experience with it:
I had a noticeable 125-130 Hz boost in my room, it was clear playing note by note with the keyboard.
I did calibrating with ARC and this was well balanced, till I did a treatment to the room.

The ECM8000 is useable, shelf the highs when done. The better choice is the Sonarworks Mic.

Or buy used version one or maybe some store have it as "sale" then use this software update the mic is the same after all..
And if you move location you still got the mic..

Why not try and check after with white noise that the frequency response in the sweet spot is (more or less) linear?

For anyone that's curious: IK Multimedia's CS dept. can be contacted to purchase an ARC mic for $100. That is hands down the cheapest way to get this software working 100%. Other than that, it's full copy price. Other mics will color the response--which is the whole thing you are trying to AVOID by using this software at all.

On some German sites there are guys who are pretty sure that Superlux ECM-999 is IK000008 but not IK000002. Go figure...
IK doesn't give out the specs

I have a Brauner Phantom.... a nice flat response. I used it with IRC... did all the measurements, applied the results and the 'adjusted' sound is incredibly impressive. So much clarity added to a mix. So my advice... if you have a 'good' microphone this will still give you an improved listing experience.

This soft can correct your room's Frequency Response, specialty Peaks, but not Nulls and resonances. So, first at all, analize your room, check speakers position. treat it acoustic. Then use this soft. The Behringer ECM8000 it's a good (& chip) Mic, and can make a great job . Don't expect GREAT results. Dirac's live its much better than ARC.
Cheers!

Thanks to R2R, but unuseful with not dedicated mic, it will only colorize (? probably not correct definition) the sound.
Move to Room EQ Wizard (it's free) and buy an USB UMIC-1 mic, about 75 euros......useful also for acoustic recordings.
Strong learning curve (you need to know basic acoustic tech.), not great results without acoustic treatments, obviously
Reputation is an idle and most false imposition, oft got without merit and lost without deserving

The colorize will it be (?) above 15 Khz and below 40Hz. (Anyone can notice that?)
C'mon boyz! This is a stupid debate!
REW it's the greatest soft around (and free!!!!!!!)
Treat your Room before EQ it!

It'd be worth the trouble if it was surround sound and not just stereo.

ECM8000 does a good job here. except at the ends, all mics condenser are equal. ECM8000 better than nothing, it's actually much better than nothing.

Well i tried the superlux ECM999 and i think it works just fine with arc 2 , i have also a copy of Sonarworks reference 3 with their mic and if i look at the frequency response correction in my studio from reference and arc 2 is very very close , if not for the really high end that is slightly boosted with arc 2 but the correction sounds almost the same with both programs
