Yes....Why didn't R2R include that microphone in the package...???!

They should've!
Don't they know that we love free stuff whether it's a software or a hardware!

Behringer ECM8000: it works rather fine here, improved audio, I don't know if same level of the original calibrated (are we shure? ) one. Many internet reports state that any mesurement mic should be adeqate

Then again noone i know of had made an head to head review with the bundled and other mic:s

All those who reported about other mic:s has probably dl this from internet and take a chance with a budget mic like Behringer ECM..

I really would like to know if IK Multimedia have screw us..

also lots of other reports:
- tested the supplied mic with a bought ECM8000: Completely different responses in those mics
- Arc has been supplied with two versions of a mic (that both look like ECM8000), and the software asks you to select which revision you got. What to choose if you have an ECM8000 instead of IK supplied mics?
- It's widely noted that the ECM8000 isn't quality controlled enough and the response of the mics varies heavily between different mics. Also, a measurement mic is only useful if you know _for sure_ what it's response is. So a measurement mic is only useful if you have a trust-worthy calibrated response curve from it. Since the ECM8000 isn't supplied with one (and the mics vary a lot) it's not really that useful.
- What IK probably did was get the ECM8000's from a place that calibrates the mics (you can get ECM8000's with a .cal response file for that specific mic you bought to make it useful). So they made sure they 'the IK mic' supplied is a special run of ECM8000 which they checked has a special frequency response. So you can't just use any other ECM8000 because they respond quite different.

So I for one won't trust the modifications ARC will make if you use a completely different mic. ARC expects a certain response curve from the supplied mic, and the ECM8000 you will buy from a store is just too different.

So I believe that... usually measurement mics have a flat response.

just in case anybody is considering doing some room treatment at the moment.... GIK acoustics giving away free Cloud mounting brackets with any order until the end of february.

Someone could make a comparative response of the microphones supplied by ARC. It would be very interesting.

found these two mic's people talk about
ECM8000 or Dayton Audio EMM-6, no one will say direct replacement

this comment,,,,,
I tried the software with my Behringer ECM8000, and noticed that both the low-mid area and after 3-4kHZ the responses of the mics varied greatly; I believe IK, in a very business-like decision, uses capsules that are not completely linear, and that is taken into account back in the software. That, or my ECM8000 was wildly out of line in the highs, but I've used it before with RoomEQ Wizard with no issues.

[NOTE: To do the RTA calibration with the Behringer DEQ2496 Ultra-Curve Pro Mastering Processor, you need the Behringer BEHRINGER ECM8000 microphone, which is very similar to the calibrated microphone that comes with the ARC System (IK Multimedia), but it is a tiny bit different, and I am using both the Behringer system and the ARC System, but for different purposes, where the ARC System is used to calibrate the listening room after the Behringer system separately has calibrated the loudspeaker units. In this strategy, my hypothesis is that the Behringer system generally calibrates the loudspeaker units but then the ARC System does fine-tuning for the complete system based on the location where the mixing and mastering engineer sits. My current perspective is that the two systems are similar in some respects, but the ARC System is more focused on fine-tuning and calibrating to a precise listening location specifically for doing digital music production, and a key part of the hypothesis and strategy is that by getting the loudspeaker frequency response generally correct with the Behringer system, it then becomes possible for the ARC System to focus more precisely on calibrating the specific listening experience, which is the best way I can explain the strategy at present . . .

I guess it will depend on the cal file in the software

This is what Hugh Robjohns former BBC engineer said in an SOS review of v 1 some years ago..

Interestingly, the measuring microphone's grille looks very Bruel & Kjaer-ish, although I suspect this is a less expensive Far Eastern alternative. The mic has a stated tolerance of ±1.5dB between 20Hz and 16kHz, and the software compensates for its falling HF response above that (which means you're likely to get false results if you use a different mic — even one with a flatter, wider response.

So even if you use another mic and might get a different response it is most likely a WRONG response so if you want to use another mic dont use this software use RoomEQ wizard or other similar software..

Guys like I keep telling you AVG is possibly the LEAST file-sharing friendly program on the planet. They're known for their false positives and can throw up messages on software left and right. Upon further inspection it ends up being that they flag it as a hack tool or something. Get yourself another anti-virus is my advice to you.

My home studio has a very poor acoustic conditions so ACR + ECM8000 always improve. I tried to do mix with: 1-ACR and 2-headphones AKG 271 MkII + Beyerdynamic Virtual studio (free software) Beyerdynamic
concluding that both methods are fairly balanced. Personally I prefer Beyerdinamic.

When you say ACR you mean ARC, isn't it? More or less I agree with you even if Beyerdynamic is not my point being interested in a loudspeaker measurement. I agree with guitarmaniac64, the best solution should be to use RoomEQ wizard with UMIK-1 usb mic, the cons are:
RoomEQ wizard is not so intuitive
you have to extract from it a filtered eq curve and manually correct your daw output with a eq plugin
UMIK-1 usb mic costs 75 euros (the ECM8000 I have is not mine and I could buy a new mic.....)
Interesting thread, room eq for bad and small ambients like mine is very important....

When I try to install (Mac 10.8.5), I'm getting the following message:
"The installation failed. The installer encountered an error bla,bla...".
Trying manually with Pacifist, the program and the plugin refuses to open.
Meanwhile, everything works fine on my laptop (Mac 10.6.8).
I "smell" a permissions problem but nothing changes when I 'm
repairing them.
I would very much appreciate your suggestions.

Hi All

I've been using the Beyerdynamic MM 1

The frequency response in the pamphlet is dead flat 'til just before 20000Hz. Everything else is so close as not to matter??

It appears to work fine.......having said that I'm not really sure what the ARC programme is really for. The instructions say to calibrate the room which I've done and to do all your work with the ARC turned on............but on the final mix down with ARC off. Can somebody explain to me what is hopefully achieved by this process.

Regards

jonmoi

arc will correct the frequency response of your speakers in your room. it not only eqs your speakers to reproduce a flat frequency line, but also corrects the phase alignment throughout the frequency spectrum, making sure you get a right reproduction of what your audio really sounds like.

you must turn it off before exporting your mix, because the processing is only for you, listening to the mix (and therefore making better mix-decisions).

I tested it and compared my earlier mixes, and I noticed I excessively eqd my room on every single track. so if my room has 80hz overpronounced, i cut it out of kicks and basses, but in reality those tracks were fine sounding, i just thought they were bass-heavy. so arc saves me from that, because it takes my room (and also 'speakersound') out, leaving me with the true sound of every track that I need to process.

I bought it and every single one of you all should do it :)
