Acustica Audio Azure 2 2023-R2R screenshot
Team R2R | 27 Nov 2023 | 279.3MB
Azure2 is a true-to-life emulation of a passive, hand-made equalizer characterized by tube make-up stages and the finest transformers, making it ideal for a wide range of applications. The transparency and three-dimensional quality of the original hardware is simply unmatched in the industry. The life it can breathe into mixes, vocals, and instruments will astound you and its infinite possibilities will blow your mind. Compared to similar designs, it makes everything sound more “like a record.”

A witch says,

Library is completely decrypted, decompressed, DRM related bloat removed, and built to the clean one.

Acustica is using RC4 for encrypting Nebula2 image files (N2P, N2S, N2V). RC4 is outdated weak protection, thus deprecated in many software / libraries. Not good for both security and speed.

For the library encryption (used by software), simple XOR with key mangling is enough. By using SSE2, XOR crypt can process data by 16 bytes at once, which results good decryption speed. AES with hardware acceleration should be good too.

There are lots of better secured crypto. However, hackers can extract any crypto key in the desktop apps by using debugger. R2R has made tons of keygens for tons of crypto as you know. There are no good reason to use slow crypto in the audio plugins. Just use simple and faster one - or ditch crypto.

This thing was basically UN-endorsed by Jonte Knif, stating over on the FB forum that it has nothing to do with his unit, sound or otherwise.

yeah basically Giancarlo pirated his hardware

Pretty much.
And there was another HW dev, can't remember who or where I saw it ... very boutique gear, who was complaining that he heard some studio owners were courted by Acu5tica to sample those units, without the manufacturer's permission, evidently. He was pissed.

This plugin is like doing construction work. You have to manually turn on each setting. You cant change the size of the GUI. When you change the frequencies, it takes a second to hear the change so it completely ruins your workflow and productivity. There is no automatic gain compensation so Acustica Audio tries to trick you with the 'louder is better' principle. If you look at the EQ curves in the manual there is no secret sauce. you can easily do the same with most other EQ plugins. This plugin uses the same CPU as 3.5 instances of Omnisphere...

I always use 4 instances Omnisphere for mastering, stacking the Reverbs made everything feels 3D. Glad I can save 0.5% CPU with this plugin that do the same thing now. I really dig the construction work vibe it brings, it feels like you actually building something.
  Resident 15.02.2019 337

wait, stacking 4 3D reverbs doesn't make it 12D? I'm confused ...

it's simple math :

1 reverb = 1D
4 reverb = 3D

that's what we call non-linearity in mastering. it's a dark art.

i only use hardware for mastering, and for resize have a toolbox and a good handsaw. i was resizing 3 days, after this i will sound much better

Just like the hardware.

quote by BasedPirateThere is no automatic gain compensation

Just in case you've never seen any analogue EQ, it's the same with the hardware.
On top of that, even TDR's autogain doesn't really work for EQs (that's because the change in level is estimated, not measured).

that is very fair but I think most people expect digital emulation products to emulate the hardware and add improvements when possible. surely there are some products on the market that auto compensate accurately. Tape machine plugins dont require you to buy tapes and calibrate the machine and bake the tape and do maintenance on the machine

I hope I can't read more gratuitous comments like these. If you had at least given us some useful tips in return, it would have been more acceptable. Meanwhile, move your hands and use your ears to compensate for gain...

some plugins when you hold shift while adjusting input it automatically adjusts the output also. there is no function like this in the plugin so i dont know what tip i can give you here

FYI: Azure is 44.1 and 96k only (no 48 and 88.2k supported sample rate)

maybe this Ziko fellow only works in 44 and 96. it's his signature sound.

How does it compare to PA's Knif Soma? I want to read some opinions before testing. The interface itself made me lazy.

the preamp is a bit weird because it's not just a Knif Soma but the whole Ziko mastering chain. One might say it warms thing up, for me it feels like it blurred everything and add tons of mud the moment you turn it on. It feels too dirty, colored and somehow low fidelity. Compared to PA's Knif Soma, that one feels a little more classy, clean, and pristine but sometimes that's not what you want, it depends.

The EQ section is pretty much the same but the PA's offers additional selection for the filtering steepness that could open up more shaping options if creatively combined with the shelves on both end.

As to my comparisons, the EQ sounds better.

Could test it now, thank you guys for the reviews

For me two different beasts, each one with it's pros and cons; the AA one seems to fluffy the transients when the preamp is on, which is not bad, but can be a overkill if you are aiming for that flat top transformer/in your face transient style. The PA one seems to be more respectful to the source, not an evident effect until you start using the eq section, that sound more tight than AA. But i like the AA EQ a lot. Despite the lag on the knobs (common fault on Acustica), it has a more intuitive interface than PA. PA GUI is kinda cluttered and confusing. I think i prefer Azure, since the hit on CPU is almost the same here. And the mid range and top end on Azure sounded better than PA for me.

im surprised they do not have a plugin bundle called "SUPER HYPED". Everything about this company is just buhh...
Gazillion versions with stupid names + their ZL....just make a zero latency on that same one plugin like TDR Does and spare our disk space?!?

Last year's R2R Party with Softube was second to none.
Acustica being cracked is just Karma I guess. totally super hyped imnsho.

just use libs from Alex-B, Tim Petherick, STN, CD Soundmaster, Cupwise ,Olonga etc

It's 2023, it's a plugin that only works on 44.1, 96... Sad... They still talk bad about "waves...

This version is made from the trial and the trial has less IRs. The legit full version supports all four SRs.
