One of the previous VR Serato Sampler releases technically had a virus. It had a key logger included in it. The key logger was actually a legit bit of software used by security companies hence why it never flagged up as a virus. Clever way of infecting machines.

No idea, it was a while ago now. I've been on Audioz for 12 years, downloaded 1000's of plug-ins. Had just 2 viruses and Serato was one of them.

I'm no expert but i doubt it was Serato themselves. That would be business suicide. I'm not saying it was the supplier or the VR either but somewhere along the chain a key logger appeared. I'm studious when it comes to my PC and what programs i install so i spotted it very quickly.

The weird thing was that it was an actual program installed. I checked it out and the program makers have a website that sells the key logger for business admins etc. I wish i had kept the details tbh.

now this make me super curious since i've been hacked few months ago (Wallet), and curious whats the culprit. And oddly enough, the 1.3.0 post in audioz also deleted (i assume for sometime now), i wonder why (the 1.2.0 and below from VR still exist)

I remember Serato_Sample_v1.3.0_CE.zip (dated 26-01-2021, most likely from audioz) gave me virus warnings in both Defender and Malwarebytes.
Back then I tagged it as suspicious, and I never installed it because of that.
However when I scan that same zip now no warnings show up...
The zipfile contains just the exe, but not the usual VR.nfo.
Maybe someone else can confirm that that zip (11,428,824 bytes) was the one posted here, if u still have it... Also, usually the releases are RAR-files, not zip files.

(edit: the date should be 18-11-2020, not 26-01-2021)

interesting, the 1.3.0 i have (cant remember the date etc, but i think it was 2020 / when it came out) . Doesnt trigger any AV, and when i drag n drop to virustotal, seems doesnt trigger anything too.
This is remind me a lot of game repacker who inject crypto miner a few years / a year ago that doesnt trigger any AV

I'd like to know more about this as well, as I've been using 1.3.0 (the exe dated 11-28-2020) for many months. Nothing came up in my scan... but, why is it missing from Audioz?

It would indeed be good to know more about this. Did you download your version from here? Because there are different sites that use releases from VR or R2R and implement a virus and upload them on their websites and name them the same. From my understanding the uploaders here check for viruses before putting it up here.
And can you tell us more about the keylogger used?

I never download music software from anywhere else and it wasn't a R2R release. It wasnt a virus so didnt come up as a hazard on my machine. After i install each piece of software i check my task manager etc to see what's going on and the key logger was there. It had a proper name so i googled it and it mas made by a legit software house. That's all i remember. Has anyone installed this version?

I ran the 1.3.0 exe that was here through virus total and there was nothing detected. Windows Defender also does not find anything.
If there was a detection at some point for that exe I think it should be in the Virustotal library, right?
Scrat1 also wrote "I remember Serato_Sample_v1.3.0_CE.zip (dated 26-01-2021, most likely from audioz) gave me virus warnings in both Defender and Malwarebytes." - the information if you got the file from here (or from another untrusty website) would be worth a lot - there are quite a few sites that use popular releases and repackage them with viruses.

Yeah it doesnt trigger too in mine, but i still curious of why the 1.3.0 post is disappear too from audioz (the 1.2.0 CE-V.R still exist in here)

I've been on 1.3.0 for most of this year. Came up clean (the exe from 11-18-2020), but the keylogger thing is freaking me out a bit... wonder why 1.3.0 is missing from Audioz.
