Prime Studio® (powered by Acustica Audio) Charly is a summing tool based on an analogue tube device that has been modified according to our specifications. Charly refines signals with fine tube character and analog punch adding harmonic distortion.

Description from the previous version:

Charly is perfect to rhythmically enhance drum loops, to bring to life dull and boring sounds, as well as to fatten loops and mixes.

Its simplicity translates into an output gain divided between -10dB and +10dB, an on/off switch button which turns on the plugin or sets it in bypass mode, and a couple of left/right VU meters that measure the stereo input level. All the magic is done by the output gain rotary knob; it acts like a stereo enhancer and adds a slight compression and reverb. The amplification is made without distortions and artifacts.

It probably depends on your listening system. On my home setup (EMU1820M + DYNAUDIO BM6A mk1) i notice that it do something very pleasent with low end.Nice plugin

Installed on a Mix Bus (not Master). Reaper performance meter reported 1149 PDC.

Getting clicking in audio when level control is moved below 0db. Especially noticeable
when moving control while below 0db.

No noticeable tonal difference in audio signal. Listened on headphones & speakers.
Did get a clicking/ticking sound while using the power switch. Also produced a short dropout in audio. Clicking & dropout reduced to a barely noticeable level after 5 minutes or so.

Don't understand why this plugin exists....

Prime Audio are related to Acustica Audio in terms of plugin development.
They use convolution technology to sample hardware equipment (they labelled it "VVKT" technology), but you can find more info on theirs manuals.
Those plugins are known to be CPU-eaters because they use samples to interact "intelligently" with your signal going through your DAW. Try increasing buffer size or freezing other audio tracks.

Have used Prime Studio plugins taking advantage of the Acustica demo process.
No issues. Did not find them different enough to warrant a purchase at that time.

Able to run complex mix sessions with effects on Master Output.

It is a summing amp plugin. It's highly praised by Gearspace people.
Come here just to try the software and buy it afterwards.
If I don't like the software I will just DELETE it.

This must be a Core5-6 IIRC.
Things has been changed a lot and the quality has been improved drastically.
Now we are at Core17. So it's not the best example of how AA tech sounds today.

Yep, this plug-in is from 2016 or something, at least v1 is. Other than changing the colour of the GUI, I don't notice any significant update from v1 so I would guess that they are still using the same engine.

Acqua "cores" is BS to sell products... the superior sounding plug from AA is N4 with third party devs such as TimP, Cupwise or AlexB.
