I thought the same. Like R2R split, maybe? RET releases iLoked plugins just like R2R, and releasing iLoked plugins is not a trivial matter.

Things I noticed when experimenting with this plugin:

1) Rendering is EXTREMELY fast, about as fast as something like Pro-C2 with no oversampling. In Pro-C2, turning on oversampling slows rendering down. Since there is no oversampling option in smartComp, I have to assume it does NOT use any kind of internal oversampling.

2) When rendering, peaks below the threshold get reduced, even with very fast attack and release settings (10ms/100ms). Not sure what's up with this. It doesn't happen in Pro-C2 or other compressors.

3) I don't understand why the "Spectral" option is DISABLED until you press the "learn" button. Why can't "Spectral" work manually? That leads me to believe that "Spectral" will work differently depending on what's learned.
