Vienna Ensemble Pro has become the definitive cross-platform network solution in studios and production facilities around the world. I think the biggest benefit of VEP is the independency of the plugins from the DAW. Whatever happens in your DAW, crashes, freezes. Or vice-versa.
Other benefits are written in the first paragraph in the description above.
Switching from one project to another you don't have to reload plugins each time.
Connecting more computers you can distribute the CPU and memory usage between these computers. Interoperability between pc and mac.

Awesome, I've got it working totally with my Logic Pro X 10.4.2 on OSX 10.12.6 with that patch that allows my Mac Pro 3,1 to run Sierra. I used the AU Instrument plug from the above link and the VSL Vienna Ensemble from this main post and it's working killer. I'm using Superior Drummer, Omnisphere and Kontakt loaded on a Gigabit networked PC and its amazing, using the 64 bit VSL Ensemble Pro server on the PC and the AU instrument on the Mac Pro. VSL follows the host tempo, the midi timing seems good to me, performing in real time the Vsti, I can even offline bounce in Logic, just like you can with Logic's built in instruments, mind is blown ! Loving it ! Total game changer for me !

There have been old VSL staff in giga and in early Kontakt formats that are too cumbersome to use comparing with today's standard (recent symphonic libraries).
There exist Vienna's current libraries that are protected and use their proprietary player, not k'ed yet (AFAIK).
This release is not about sound libraries of Vienna, it's about a platform to load plugins, mix channels, that is like a DAW in a DAW, with the ability of seamless interoperable connection via network, without the track editing capability of the usual DAWs.

Vienna Ensemble Pro = streaming software to run VST Instruments and Effects on separate machine, has nothing to do with libraries!

I use vienna on a single machine for years. I put all Kontakt and other instruments in VEPro server instances : it makes Logic use really smoothand fast. Vepro read Vst format also.
Try it if you wanna go next level...
Vsl libraries are for use in VEPRO but there is none with the plugin.
