can someone kindly explain what a symlink installer is ?
i have no idea what to do with them ( i just had malware infection so i am verging on the side of caution)...

We all love malware infections here. No wonder nobody is posting about it - because their stupid Windows OSes broke down!

Joking aside, this is a somewhat clean installer for all of the Korg Legacy Collection plugins. It should be easy to install, or not. Judging by your comment you might want to skip it and install the plugins in a normal way because this easy install can sometimes get complicated and then you have to fiddle about with it for a bit.

Don't worry! All of the KLC plugins are available here for download. Just search!

I've not downloaded any of these symlink releases yet but they have been appearing a lot in the last few weeks so I'm curious too, and aside from the release notes I can't find any info anywhere on how they work - what is being symlinked to what exactly?

i think they come from ru tor (big community on there)at least the proper ones come from thee...all symlink releases with symlink cmd 'unsymlink' are the better ones..
but i only fck around with it for machines with just a c drive no more other drives (only c drive ,thats best ,i prefer this box concept)
on only c drive machines you will spend so much less time installing...incredible..

its repack's...repack's are shit but in case of symlink i think not so...symlink is to good...must be puplic...the r2r keygen + symlink post together are making a awesome download very remarkable...not like moneymaking repack shit..or i have nothing to do so i make repack and show how fast i am..lol..

For those who are asking, symlinks are basically fancy shortcuts. When you create a symlink between two folders, you can put files in one, and the files will automatically be in the other without taking up space on the hard drive.

I'm familiar with symlinks and use them myself to junction things between SSD and HDD, but that sort of thing should be up to the user. I don't see what the connection is between the use of symlinks and the process of cracking software.

how do you use 'symlink' installers.?
Do they work?
are they just full of nasty virii?
i only ask as i am interested in a few of these d/ls but i need someone to tell me if this is risky or not?
at the moment i have folders within folders of stuff and no idea what to do with them...
so, forgive my ignorance...

As far as i could discover those symlinks does not have anyhting to do with cracking software, but its a kind of trick to let windows os think that you have register your software like you bought it officialy, thats why you have to make some small changes in the register if i'm right. Other thing is that your beloved software will not connect to the manufacturers servers that makes it unusable in some cases its like a core install without any cracking scripts wich may contain malware or other shit you rather not have on your system. correct me if i'm wrong as i'm learning about this symlink too before bringing this to practice.

Thanks for the clarification, I think I'm starting to get the picture - it sounds like it's a way of deploying a snapshot of all the changes that a legit install would make to the system, captured in one package a bit like a portable app, except that the registry entries are added to the actual registry, not a virtual one (which wouldn't be an option given that plugins have to interact with host software).

symlink = symbolic link.
a normal installer places files in various places of your harddrive (like the vst folders, sometimes your document folder, sometimes ProgramData, sometimes Program Files) and in the Windows Registry.
A symlink installer places these links everywhere where the vst's installer would normally place a physical file.
and all these links are pointing inside the "installerless" folder.
Plus Registry entries are added like an installer would do.
The programs don't see links though, they see files in the expected locations. Windows automatically "translates" the links without the programs ever knowing of it.
Because NTFS is limited to a file path of 255 characters (including file names), you should first place the installerless-folders you download here somewhere on the "surface" of your file system.
Like on "C:\Symlink\". Then run the Symlink installer batch file from there. It is important to keep all files in exactly this folder until you want to "uninstall" the plugins of a bundle.
If you want to "uninstall" then run the Symlink uninstaller batch file. This will remove all the Symlinks for that symlink-plugin-bundle. Now you can delete the folder or move it somewhere else. You can always copy a Symlink-release-folder, even if it is "installed".
You can even have the Symlink-release-folder on an entirely different drive (inside your PC) and install from there.
If a file is suddenly not where the Symlinks say it should be, you are going to get errors.
Or if you placed it too deep inside your folder structure; say:
C:\Users\Jack Daniells\Downloads\VSTs\Symlinks
That's already 46 outof our 255 characters used up and can with some plugins that have deep folder structures and or long file names just to much -> it won't work.
Fun fact: you can manually create symlinks for folders, it isn't that hard. This way you could move e.g. your Onmisphre folder (big, over 100GB) off of your expensive, super-fast and tiny-capacity (say 256GB) SSD and onto your much-cheaper but still quite fast and large (1TB) HDD. Also worked flawlessly for me with deeply-layered drum VSTs.
If you can handle 2-3x longer loading times per preset (most of them load in way under a second but there are some that take 20 seconds to fully load from HDD).

Appreciated. - I'm a Korg Legacy Collection registered user, but the Banks Collection is great! I already had a lot of Wavestation Banks found around here at AudioZ, but I had very few banks for the M1... and a lot of them are included in this collection, both in fxp format and syx format...

A customized script that installs (KORG Legacy Audio Plugins Pack 6.3.2013 by R2R). What is the real purpose of symlink? I just installed the exe files from the R2R folder and copied over me banks and manuals. Am I missing something? Why use all the other script crap? Something looks fishy.

no just an alternative install method that allows for pre-patching of plugins, having the big files other drives than C:, fixing of problems, bundeling (imagine having to reinstall each plugin you have on its own after reinstalling your pc, this is where bundles are very much appreciated). This way you just copy it somewhere safe and execute one file; all installed.
