Stay organized with minimum effort. Find your sounds in no time
Are you tired of searching your hard drives for a sample, a preset or a vst?
From now on find your files in no time. Stay organized with minimum effort.
As a musician, if you are here, you surely have a lot of VST effect, Synths, banks, and samples.
How do you manage to find what you need when you are in the creative process?
Where is that sample that you heard some days ago and that you liked so much?
Wow!! a new post with my favorite VSTi, fine, but do I have this v.1.5023C update already? or not?
The programs that I propose to you, have functions that can be used by the musician to get much easier organized, save time and focus on the creative process.
Each one complements the functions of the other.
The programs in this post have more functions than the one described below but I only speak about what may be useful for a musician.
- Essential Pim Portable: This program is very useful to organize notes and then, when you need to, search for an specific term or simply consult your notes. Example: when a vst installs a bank as a file you don't even see it in your hard drive, because it is in the installer. If you want to remember a particular sound for later use, you can put a note with the name of the synth and the bank, then the sound with your comments, so you will find it later, easily "which was this sound I thought it was good for my last song?". You can use it for note about your mixes too, or a particular use of an effect. It is very easy to create notes, and any quantity of sub notes.
Another interesting characteristic of this program is that you can edit and create fields for the contact part. So, well used, this flexibility allow you to adapt it and instead of using it for contacts, you can use it as a database for categorizing effects or whatever you want.
Works on XP, 7, 7 x64. It is so light that you can let it open while you work, so any idea can be noted at the moment. I have created a template database for musicians that does the job even easier.
- Advanced File Organizer: This is a very easy program for having a database of what is on your hard drive and any external drive or DVD, CD. Then, once it has scanned your medias, you can catalog by categories every file or folder that you want. Example: You have your drive D full of your downloaded VSts and Samples, one click to scan, then create categories you want and assign them to your files, so next time you are looking for a wav, Jazz, sax whatever, you only need to click inside the program to see all files that correspond to these categories. Another use would be, if you are not sure that you have the version of a VST, you only need to look for the name in the data base, with its search tool. works on works on XP, 7, 7 x64.
- Directory Opus: This a special explorer that works for win x86 and x64. It has a lot of useful functions, but at least 1 is great for musicians: You can create virtual file collections to categorize files. This means that you only need to drag and drop a file or a folder to your virtual file collections to have it memorized there. Of course 1 file can be part of more than 1 virtual file collections. The virtual file collections appear like folders so they are very easy to access. As this program comes with an integrated player, you can listen to your audio files and categorize them very easily. Obviously you can do this with any file you want. works on XP, 7, 7 x64.
With all this you should find everything you need in no time.
Don´t let any of these programs connect to internet
