Bitwig Studio v4.3.4 [WIN macOS LiNUX]-FLARE screenshot
Team FLARE | 14 August 2022 | WiN: 288 MB | macOS: 383 MB | LiNUX: 275 MB
RELEASE NUMBER: FLARE-1869/FLARE-1870/FLARE-1871

Bitwig Studio 1 was hello, world! Version 2 brought program-wide modulators and CV integration. Version 3 saw the birth of The Grid, our modular sound-design environment. And for version 4, new musical timelines have arrived.

This means comping for audio clips, both in the Clip Launcher and the Arranger. A new set of Operators, for changing the chance, recurrence, and more of any note or audio event. Random Spread for any expression point (like per-note pitch, or audio panning) with perfect control. And Native Apple Silicon support on Mac, even allowing Intel and ARM plug-ins to work side-by-side.

Welcome to Bitwig Studio 4.

What's new in 4.3

Your Sound is Going Spaces
Our new device, Convolution, can take any sound anywhere — even places that don't exist. All convolutions imprint your sound with an “impulse,” and ours comes ready-made with 270 of them, ranging from 12th-century cathedrals and legendary studio effects to more abstract “environments.” Using the impulse of a room or hall creates a realistic reverb, but Bitwig's Convolution and content offers so much more.

Fashionably Late
Delay+ is Bitwig's latest boutique audio effect. By balancing familiar controls along with a few thoughtful new ones, Delay+ can either add a little character or fully transform your sound as it ping-pongs along.

The New Face of Polymer
Polymer and The Grid use the same modules, so when something new comes along, everybody wins. For Bitwig 4.3, some analog-inspired goodies have arrived.

Two modules are new. Union is an oscillator that plays it straight, blending three waveshapes into one pleasant, drifting output. And for filtering, Low-pass MG honors Mister Moog by imitating both his classic filter and mix buss.

Topping Off
As always, a few more new features came along for the ride. For example, FX tracks now have sends of their own. And yes, direct feedback routings are available — and clearly labeled (Achtung!). And the ADSR module gets a lot of use, so why not add a “bias” out port for a bipolar signal that centers around sustain? Good for pitch or anything that might want a little drift.

Whether it is recording settings, lyrics, or performance notes, comments can be freely added to tracks, layers, Arranger cue markers, and Launcher scenes — just start writing in your language. And by distributing our Linux build over Flatpak and supporting PipeWire, many distros will have a smoother experience with Bitwig, including Ubuntu users. And maybe even Steam Decks?…

Bitwig Studio 4.3 supports the CLAP plug-in standard.

I agree with that even though I like .deb installers. Flatpack comes with all the dependencies so it won't matter which distro you use. However, if you're using any latest Debian, Ubuntu, KXStudio or AVLinux, you have a very good chance .deb will work just as well.

Caution possibly warranted: I haven't updated since 4.0.1 which had zero issues and this install almost borked everything. It automatically created a new user in Win (very odd) which I realized after it didn't recognize previous settings. By it doing this it started altering appdata directories too. Previously updating from 3.3.1 to 4.0.1 was butter-smooth. I caught this one in time to stop whatever shenanigans were being changed in appdata folder, etc. Uninstalled and cleaned up the mess it made, and got 4.0.1 working as previously did. You may want to create a restore point just in case so you don't have to manually fix things if they go wrong.

Are you sure this happened from our release? Our release uses the official installer from bitwig and doesn't modify anything except the bitwig.jar file that modifies the app to accept our license key which needs to manually be replaced.

I'll have to check things out in vs-code, so I'm not pointing a finger in any direction yet tbh. I attempted two more times to install 4.3.4 and each time it insists on creating a new system user name and installing to that scenario, never recognizing that both 3.3.1 and 4.0.1 are still installed with their respective settings and system user (the currently logged-in user who's also admin). I can't remember any program ever doing this insistence before so something is wrong with the release... possibly the dev's fubar. I'll search the class files later and see if I can pinpoint the function/method that's causing the issue.

The issue should be easily replicated by having 4.0.1 installed, completely setup and working with logged-in user (who's also admin), then installing this 4.3.4.

Hunting down the offending class file could take a while though, there's tons of them for an IDE to search through.

This version is great, I did all the tests and there are no problems, I live in a country where it is impossible to buy bitwig studio, and you give me the chance to have it, I am very happy and thank you FLARE

There is only one problem, I did all the tests, and that problem is that the console pages do not open in online mode and a message is shown saying that a file is missing, news, tutorials, etc. The online mode doesn't work, but in the demo they all work, I found out that the problem is with the bitwig.jar file

Sounds like a virus or something you had on your pc.

How should the bitwig installer have the rights to create a new user? Unless your system is well infected with something?

Im with flare here. Also just installed 4.3.4, everything fine here.
If you want to supply something, you can. PM is open for that.

No, has nothing to do with a virus. I've sorted to a bitwig installation process issue. You see, some folks like me didn't originally like how win10/win11 originally defaulted legacy usernames (made and used in OS's pre-win10) to the first 5 chars of their live logins so we painstakingly changed them how we had them previously. This includes how user profile folders are named of course. bitwig msi is reverting back to the original win default of the first 5 chars of live email to assume that's the currently logged-in user's name... when it's not. So it then creates this 5-char new username profile folder system, and associated subfolder sets such as appdata, etc.

It's a mess tbh and it's all on bitwig. No other exe or msi installer I've come across in the last number of years has defaulted this way.... and bitwig didn't used to either. It seems it was introduced at version 4.3+ (approx). Pre-4.3 didn't doesn't this.

Edit: creating a symbolic link works but would confuse folks on the process of creating it themselves. The dev could have simply implemented the symbolic link as a registry entry during the installation process and problem is then solved.

I can't say for sure that it's related to Bitwig. But, somewhere after 4.0.1 and an official legit licensed 4.x.x update from their web site, I discovered a big nested folders mess in AppData folder maybe related to some recursive "Application Data" link. Googled for it and it was a pain to find how to clean it properly. It seems related to some user read/write access to the link...

The Dashboard is missing all the Quick Start templates and Help panel content.

Just a BIG RED X.

It seems to be a missing a "quickstart.json" file.

Does anyone know how to get these features back on the Dashboard?

Yes, I have the same problem, and this version only has this one bug, if you find a solution, post it here.

2nd full day using this, everything working fine, not a single crash, open and save projects from previous version perfectly.

Downloaded few Clap plugins, everything working fine as well.
It makes no sense to say you’re not good at it. It’s like saying, “I’m not good at being a monk.” You are either living as a monk or you’re not.

This DAW amaze me every day! It's so well thought for creation in (really) all the ways!
There are many little details missing but, for those who could afford, it's worth supporting them to continue improving it.

I have been testing this version for two days, finally a problem was found, a small problem, the news and tutorials don't work in the console, but it works in the demo mode and there is no problem, the problem is from the Bitwig Jar file. Yes, when I add it, the console does not work in online mode and is offline.

I've been using it for two days straight, no problems at all.
With the last version I had random timebombs once or twice a day.
I've blocked Bitwig Studio, Bitwig Audio Engine and Bitwig Plugin Host with Firewall.
I don't know if it's necessary or not.

No, there is no time bomb, I tested it, there is no problem, the problem is with your system
  Member 21.04.2022 42

Even version 4.3 does not have a time bomb, if you don't edit the activation file and don't change the username, I was able to fix the previous version with this method, just introduce the activation file to the software without editing.
