Tonalis is a new concept in music software. It performs four part harmonisation in the common practise period style. Start by entering a melody using the piano keyboard. Press harmonise and the app will automatically generate alto, tenor, and bass parts. Progressions are optimised to minimise the movement of inner parts and so the bass line is in contrary motion to the melody. Tonalis uses techniques gleaned from various sources including the book “Theory of Harmony” by Arnold Schoenberg. Using this software, anyone can instantly produce original compositions. Choose from a selection of instruments and playback your compositions. Export the score as an image or a MIDI file.

The focus is diatonic harmony in major or minor key signatures, without rhythm.

For Amateurs. Better learn the Harmony basics, so you do too much.

This application have two big problems, it only does whole notes, do not divide measures and it's difficult to operate. Mac users can install "XP OS" within Mac and install "Harmonica tonica", that's a good application to hear, study and understand harmony, with whole, quarter, half notes etc.

Sorry, Harmonica changed it's name in 2007 for TONICA, now it's has another new name "tonica fugata" and cost the expensive price for students of music € 178.

Today I have to use PC and MAC, because some helpful applications do not work on MACs. Many "Tonica" arround the net have trojans, maybe, the developer did it. But, use it within Sand-Box. They never did it for Mac, I don't know why, could be a must.

One of the best things is: when you do your harmony for your university teacher, it auto analyses all the SATB with roman numerals of traditional harmony, and read. If you don't have time to do your home work or your focus is not harmony at school, so use TONICA. Hope CORE or other team crkac it.

i uploaded an earlier version of this software a while ago, if you are using 10.6.8 you should search for it, that old version does work on that osx version. thanks for this share btw, great little handy app.

Does anyone still have a copy of this app to download? All the links are dead; I know it's old and probably a long shot, but I had it on my old computer that has since died and I had loads of fun with it. Apparently, it isn't being developed anymore and I can't find any trace of it anywhere else online. Thanks!
