This plugin is a painstaking recreation of the coveted Undertone Audio UnFairchild 670M mkII Vari-Mu Compressor.

A design and development collaboration between MIXLAND and Eric Valentine, it is a process that starts with testing and measuring then, listening and experimenting and tweaking and refining over and over and over for over 6 months. The result is a plugin that unquestionably captures the unique vibe and character of the hardware.

Now we can all enjoy the magic and mojo of the classic UnFairchild sound in plugin form.

The features and controls for the UnFairchild 670M II plugin are the same as the hardware, with a few additions. We added an Output Level Control, Wet/Dry Mix control, and an Overall THD control. The Overall THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) control allows you to increase or decrease the amount of UnFairchild style THD character.”

EDIT : For TBTech Cenozoix enthusiast, to get the UnFaichild style compression, pick the "VIntage Tube" mode. suggested starting point :

1. Odd/Even : 50%
2. Pump : -40%
3. Attack Speed : 0.2 to 0.3ms
4. Release Speed : 800ms

at 1/4th of the CPU at 2x OS.

EDIT : If anyone want to learn about how to use the plugin (assuming what Eric Valentine said about how it's identical to the hardware) watch this video, there's a section where he explained how the hardware works that I think quite fascinating and of course, different from the original Fairchild. It starts at min 24 onwards.

Faster loading time (after the very first load), cpu consumption is still banana here on macOS silicon both with and without oversampling. Hopefully they keep improving. For those who already installed and put the key, they can use the faster official link (dropbox), the activation will stay after updating.

Gotta know how to use a Fairchild or vari mu for that matter works best on the mix when used lightly snl gain matched, get a bout 1-2 db of gr on the overall mix and it gives a very authentic Fairchild feel.

I'm in love with this plugin. I already used it on 2 masters recently. It's exactly what i've been hoping for for years.

It doesn't work on everything, but when it works it shines

The thing i like about it is it makes the sound "bloom" rather than compress in a way that makes things feel choked/restricted, like most digital compressors do (*cough* Acustica *cough*)

Overloud's version sounds great, my personal fav on Milan settings been using it since its release I believe.

UnFairchild is different compared to ALL Fairchild plugins, it pumps and have few stages of release which is first in Fairchild emu plugin. Doesnt mean it's better, but it's interestingly different. Watch Eric Valentine video on his yt channel for more info.

but I like Cenozoix mimicking it more than the plugin itself. Lol. It's cleaner with a little lookahead.

Pretty distinctly different. Unfairchild is more fat and round and pillowy. The Overloud one is pretty good but it does have a digital sound to it that i don't hear with the Unfairchild one. Overloud has the right basic characteristics, but it doesn't have the "juicy" analog sound imo

Yet another stab from some no name dev at a 670 algo plugin. When the REAL thing from UA is there in a native plugin - these are just a waste of time/space anymore. - there's no denying THOSE sound more like the real thing than 10000 of these crap wannabe no-name POS's that aren't worth the time or bandwidth to mess with IMO...

Just an FYI that this "no-names" actually aren't emulating a 670, but their REAL own unit called UnFairchild. The unit itself is based on a 670, but it's tailored towards electronic music artists :)

Eric Valentine isn't a no-name. People grow up want to be Eric Valentine. Mixland Audio founder Jesse Ray Ernster is a Grammy winning producer. Those two worked with the Kiive Audio dude that clearly isn't a no-name in plugin world today. UnFairchild was made by these 3 people.

who made the "real" Fairchild by UAD ? that one is a no-name. Can you see the irony here ?

These are not no-name devs. Eric Valentine used to engineer Queens of the Stone Age back in the day, among MANY others. The person who coded it is the guy from Kiive plugins, who makes some of the better compressors in the past 2 yrs.

If you wanna use UAD as a reference, listen for yourself @19:38 in the shootout.

it's by UnderTone Audio, they have made a hardware clone of a Fairchild with the same name as the plugin for many years now. Highly revered bit of kit, but I guess you wouldn't know that.
