I dont like the GUI in v2 and some other things. in v1 i feel more home and since its 64bit on windows, it works for a very long, and since im not planning to upgrade to win11 anytime soon it should work even longer w/o problem.

new version does not always mean its a better product. Take Dune1 and Dune2/3 or Sylenth1 v2 and Sylenth1 v3 - still use v2 there, since i hate the drop down menu for waveforms in v3. (not to mention the lag of pure offline auth without visiting the webpage.)

Because some kind souls made up some very nice Virus skins for it. Also there were some Virus specific OSC's as well.

The v2 of Zeta was very very buggy. It was a throwaway attempt by Cakewalk to cash in on the market and the og dev had given up by that point iirc.

v1 of Zeta is a beast. Check out Big Tone's soundsets and demos for it. OUT OF THIS WORLD. It's a monster. and BT's soundsets (included in the og presets for zeta 1) show it for what it is. It's a monster synth. You don't need anything else. The game stopped here. It was never bettered. Everything else since is fluff. It's that good.

The skins are a nice little addition on top. I still have the Virus skins that were done and I can dig them out if needs be.

- For loading old projects that use v1.x
- Smaller GUI size. Some people still use laptops with lower resolutions.
- I don't think the sound engine is exactly the same.
- Possibly lower CPU usage? (Though I recall it being almost the same)
- Nostalgia
- For making patches that work in both z3ta1 and 2.

One thing Z3ta 2 has that Z3ta 1 doesn't, is you can save your generated waveform as .wav - which is awfully handy.

This synth is a BEAST. One of the first truly monstrous hybrid VAs. It was way ahead of its time, it is superior to Pentagon in every way. It can be sculpted and molded to any genre. And there's thousands of presets out there.

It's certainly a bit dated now, and its filters aren't super fancy 'zero delay feedback' stuff similar to u-he, but it still sounds good and holds up today, and its CPU usage is quite respectable - though keep in mind this wasn't a low CPU synth by Pentium 4 standards.

The only synth I can think of that came close at the time, was probably Albino. The modulation matrix basically turns it into a semi-modular synth. I remember vividly going through presets and seeing so many interesting sounds that were only made possible because of some clever use of the mod matrix.

These are synths I've still yet to master, they're just that deep. Highly recommended.
