love analog obsession stuff. and the dbx is one of my favorite mastering compressors. can't wait to see if this one is better than waves' - namely if it brings a little less mud.

A '160 goes down all the way to a 1:1 ratio, if that's still too strong for you, I don't know what to suggest :D

True, Ratio is one thing...
Not much peoples know this but, VCA based compressors have really soft knee...

I wouldn't use it for mastering... but if it works for him, it works for him.

Will be interesting to hear how it compares to the Waves, Arturia, NI and others. I use some of them when I want a dirty, vintage bass DI sound or squash some drums.

It's as strong as you want it to be. It adds great punch, but with a rounder attack than, let's say, an SSL bus. What I particularly love about it is it adds beautiful brilliance at the top, while taming the highest highs. You get a darker, rounder sound, with great glue - where the overall smoothness is very much dependent on how hard you hit the input. The down side is it can get a little muddy. It would be nice it this one had an input setting. I find it keeps the transients a little, not harsh, but hard. So far, I prefer my Waves better. I'm looking forward to the next update.

Almost everything is better than Waves...

A lot of time passed until I got used to the ear on Waves.
SSL Bus Compressor narrows the sound towards the center a little bit. Its not the only Waves plugin that does this with sound ...

Some are transparent and some really lack oversampling ...
