What a cool old dirty drum machine!’– Me about the Yamaha DD-10 when I first saw it some years ago.

This is really a charming lo-fi low cost 8-bit drum machine released in 1988 aimed at the home market and I really love it. I’m writing in first person because I wanted to get really personal about this one. This is one of my all time favorites and it’s the sample pack I use the most when it comes to drum machines.

Although this expansion pack is advertised as being a BFD2 pack, it was actually released for BFD. When they wanted to release it for BFD2, it seems they were really lazy and the porting of this pack was a straightforward copy of the samples and adding the XML file setting that is used by BFD2.

Pipes is a collection of instruments derived from a variety of cardboard tubes, aluminum spray cans, dreamcatchers, and PVC pipes. Even if the pitch of most of the sources is not stable, all instruments were manually tuned. Each instrument features from 3 to 6 Round Robin samples and up to 3 velocity layers. One of the main instruments is a sampled Wah Wah Tube (aka Vibratone): bell-like sound with a very long release and a dedicated control for overtones. There are a couple of sound designed patches derived from the original instruments along with Kontakt Multis ready to play.
