Production Grand Gold Edition is a high-quality premium piano sample library for NI Kontakt 4.2, Kontakt 5 and above, consisting of eight microphone perspectives and over 42,800 samples of a Yamaha C7 grand piano recorded in a world-class recording studio. Production Grand Gold is the downloadable “Gold Edition” from the larger Production Grand. Production Grand Gold contains both the Modern and Vintage 24 bit 44.1 kHz editions of Production Grand. It is complete with eight microphone perspectives. Production Grand Gold requires a full version of Kontakt 4.2 or Kontakt 5 and greater (not provided).

Production Grand Gold Features:

•12 velocities pedal up samples
•12 velocities pedal down samples
•12 velocities release samples
•Authentic Pedalling: adds sympathetic resonance and realistic pedal control.
•Authentic hammer mechanism noises (labeled: Pre-Attack)
•User controllable recording noise for added studio realism
•Recorded with world-Class microphones: Coles, AKG, Classic U87s, B&K, Crown etc.
•Best possible A/D converters used: Burl Mothership
•Best possible microphone preamps used: API and Neve

Microphone Perspectives:

1. Player’s Perspective: Player’s perspective that is near binaural. When you put on your headphones with this perspective, it will sound like you are there playing the piano! The player’s perspective was recorded with a Crown SASS-P MKII.

2. Hammer Microphones: I’m a big fan of hammer microphones. With the hammers recorded you will get plenty of attack and a more aggressive sound.

3. & 4. Inside Microphones: This is the sound most people associate with piano recordings. We decided on two sets of inside piano microphones: vintage Neumann U87s (they say West Germany on them!) and the modern Rode NT2As. This gives the player the ability to get that classic piano sound or the modern wider-range sound or both!

5. Outside Microphones: Just outside the piano we used really expensive Neumann M149 modern tube microphones. The engineer called these the “Golden Sound” microphones. This microphone pair has a classy sound and a more balanced tone than the inside and hammer microphones.

6. & 7. Room Microphones: In an attempt to give you modern and classic choices, we used Coles ribbon microphones and AKG C414s on the rooms. The ribbons sound like… ribbons… smooth and velvety! Ribbons take EQ well; another reason to include them. The AKGs sound true to the piano’s tone in the room.

8. Under Piano Microphone: Underneath the middle of the piano we used a PZM (pressure zone) microphone to give a clear centre image to the sound.

Microphones:

•Room Microphones: Coles Ribbon, AKG 414
•Hammer Mics: B&K
•Inside Mics: vintage NeumannU87, modern Rode NT2A
•Outside Piano: Neumann M149
•Piano Bottom: PZM
•Player’s Perspective: Crown SASS-P MKII for near binaural experience when played!

Thanks. This dev trend toward colossal size libraries is getting out of control. I wish they would make more like sample modeling.

By the way I see someone they also have a "light edition" of this about half the size. (on ru, and it sounds pretty decent to me) "Grand LE contains both the Modern and
Vintage Silver 16 bit 44.1 kHz editions of Production Grand."

Wondering if this is worth the HD space or if it's like Spitfire's HZ piano.

WOWO....Their "Production Grand Piano" is 435 GB!!!
I listened to the relevant audio demos and... they really did not impress me at all...I have a legit version of VI-LAB Ravenscroft 250 which "only" takes 6GB...and I still have to find something sounding better than that!

Please do not think I would be ungrateful - this is a really great share and this library costs a lot of money. But when I heard the demos, I was shure that I cannot use it in any of my productions or songs.

It seems to be a piano that catches the classical sound and fits with classical motivs. But please hear the first demo "Lands end" and form your own opinion....

In my personal opinion this library is neither not useful in pop songs, nor in cinematic tracks or in folk music.

Lots of comments from people that have not played this, so I thought I might chime in. This is one of the most playable virtual pianos there is. It is recorded dry, so it needs effects and reverb to shine. Finetune it and play it on a VPC1 and you can manage a piano career with it. I am a pianist and have owned two awesome Bechstein grands, and the expressiveness on Production grand is not that far off. People can argue what kind if sound they like more, Yamaha, Bechstein or Steinway, but the scripting on this is close to flawless. This comes in second for me, just behind The Hammersmith Pro (with the long release samples tweak, that is).

hi farao, thanks for the input on this! i'm curious what is the "long release samples tweak" for the hammersmith you are referring to? i have the hammersmith (and love it) but if there's some way to tweak it to make it even better, i'm all ears.

Hi juxtaphon... yeah some ppl complained that the release samples were cut off and sounded somewhat unnatural, so they released the full length release samples... here you go...

Greetings to all-Under further review and testing of this library-I really like this piano library-With the right tweaking of the mics and all- This piano library kicks some serious ass from classical to jazz to rock-Love the action-Consumes lots of ram but worth it-Feels and sounds like I am playing a real Yamaha C7-Then again what do I know I've been playing piano for 52 years-Thank you Audioz for letting me try this out-Peace to all.

Are the original .nki files available as well?
The ones inside the archive have been resaved with Kontakt 5.5.2

I am asking because the description states it is a "premium piano sample library for NI Kontakt 4.2, Kontakt 5 and above"...

Just to note at the time of this post the primary uploaded links are still working. I just unpacked the whole thing and it works. Also just to note there's no Kontakt Library file so you need to load this in Kontakt by browsing to the preset file.
