Gforce Oberheim SEM screenshot

MADE IN COLLABORATION WITH OBERHEIM

We first worked with Tom Oberheim and Marcus Ryle (an inspirational Oberheim engineer during the 80s) when creating the GForce Oberheim OB-E® v2. During this time, Tom and Marcus revealed that they felt there were no software emulations of the SEM that accurately recreated the sound and the ethos of the original monophonic SEM. We decided to change that, and under the close guidance of Tom and Marcus, we’ve developed the GForce Oberheim SEM to ensure an experience that is truly authentic to the original instrument.

KEY FEATURES

. Truly authentic monophonic SEM experience and sound – small package, big sound!

i dont get it, why we limit voice count to 8 in a digital AGE of DSP?!

Also as of now, we have as much CPU power at our hands right as we never had before.
I know we are recreating classic HW, but why not make a separate settings, which adds more voices?!
If you want to supply something, you can. PM is open for that.

I hear you, why keep old limits when they can be expanded. However I think in this case its justified. The request is for the mono version anyway, but there is a mono version because the OB8 is built out of effectively 8 full SEM mono synths. Its not the case that it shares a single programmer interface for each patch or a single filter, envelopes or shared LFO, its a full synth per part. The full GUI would need to be a 24 pages long for each voice for a 24 poly synth. I'm not saying it cant be done, but the OB8 is a monster as it is and it does actually sound awesome.... The mono one requested above sounds fantastic and is at a reasonable price, give the demo a shot, I was impressed.

The only time I think imitating makes sense is when emulating hardware. But it should be able to be overridden in my opinion... Staying true to hardware limitations forces a player or composer to remain within the character or charm of the original instrument. Which not only sounds more authentic, but it lends to a certain style of writing/composing..... Just my thought.

...but when you hit the nail on the head doe...
e.g. Mono synth + long release tail = creative decision making + original tonal interest = et cetera
The Clavichord is from the Late Middle Ages. It's not a Clavinet.

Just testing the demo of this and now I really want it
I have the big one , which is superior to most other vst synths but there's something about this being a monosynth that pulls me in.
If someone asked me to do a blind test I'd swear it was a real analogue synth..
It's a joy to play around with.
I found the exact sound that Japan used on Ghosts for one of the slower riffs.
It just jumped out at me going through some presets.
Dunno if this was the synth they used, more likely a prophet, but it's EXACTLY the same
